2013 NCAA Football Thread

I propose if a rivalry between Alabama and Texas A&M truly develops, that it be called the Bear Bowl (for Bear Bryant and his coaching tree and history both schools share)

I wouldn't worry by then. The NCAA as we know it may no longer be.

Funny how the NCAA is now fixated on the 5th best team in the Big 12. I think though if anyone went to college in f'ng Stillwater, they would turn to drugs too.

Lots of ranked teams struggling to get started today . . .

But it looks like everybody pretty much righted the ship in the second half . . .

I wonder if there are any good games on here in the second time slot . . .

Fulton did a much better job vs. Evans last year than he did in the first quarter there this year . . .

Still, I think we're playing pretty well on defense . . .

Watching this guy play really is a special opportunity . . .

Inexcusably bad call on Clinton-Dix, but it's almost tough to blame the official with the rules they're given to enforce, and at least they got the replay right so it didn't decide the game . . .

In other news, Jameis Winston has thrown THREE incompletions in the first half, including a pick

Story of the first half for 'Bama was gap discipline from the front seven on defense and taking what they gave us on offense. For A&M it was failure to capitalize on our errors. Lots of game left, but I'm feeling cautiously optimistic. OTOH, Johnny Football, so we could still lose by 20 . . .

Lotta pretty girls in Texas . . .

Manziel's special, but a comeback from that would be something. We should be able to keep him from getting enough possessions to recover . . .

That was pretty amusing watching Manziel miss on Sunseri . . .

I know the game has been decided because it's gotten to the point that the color scheme of CBS' line of scrimmage and first down line is starting to annoy me . . .

Interesting stat on Manziel's efficiency when trailing vs. leading . . .

USC got Kiffin a win. We'll see how Texas can do for Mack . . .

This has become anticlimactic, machine like, boring. In short, Alabama football :D

Oh, I kept meaning to say this and forgot. All week, everything from the Alabama fans who traveled has been really positive. They've been really impressed with the hospitality of the people and the traditions of the program in College Station. Tweets regarding the game atmosphere have also been very favorable, which is what reminded me that I forgot to mention this earlier . . .

How many false starts is that for us? Can't pull this crap vs. LSU. Or Ole Miss for that matter . . .

Almost at cal memorial Stadium
I was thinking about watching that one. It will be interesting to see how OSU's D does vs. that weird LaTech offense . . .
GUYS! GUYS! What about Alabama's INEXPERIENCED offensive line!?!?!?!?
Four false starts I can remember, including two back to back on the first drive. I think what has happened after the snap has more to do with A&M's defensive front than our guys. We'll see how we look LSU week . . .

Wow Fulton has looked like crap. The discrepancy this year vs. last is glaring . . .

It would be interesting if A&M's defense could bow up here and make this a game. Would be . . .

That's karma for Yeldon after that unsportsmanlike after the TD that ended the first half . . .

Not worried . . .

Of course I was pretty sure we were going to win at this point last year too, IIRC . . .

Right up until we jumped offside on the punt, actually . . .

Burn clock. Burn clock . . .

I guess we're seeing why they gave OJ Howard all those stars . . .

Gutty call to seal it . . .

Rope a dope . . .

Great game from A&M. I think we sort of exposed Manziel's weakness, such as it is. The scrambling isn't that big of a deal. If you can keep your ends outside him and in front of him, you can be successful. What makes him lethal is what he does when he gets outside your ends but doesn't run . . .

Good game for Alabama as well. We get the W, but have plenty, plenty of coaching opportunities in the coming week . . .

Classic Saban: "It was their team vs. our team, and our offensive team played very well"

Nice starts for OSU, Auburn and SCAR in the third time slot . . .

Saban's defenses at Alabama gave up an average of 13.4 points per game over his first six years. The 42 points A&M put up today is the best anyone's ever done . . .

279 yards receiving from one dude. Please tell me he's a senior . . .

Auburn's Nick Marshall is over 200 yards passing. That's a first for Auburn since the first game of 2011 . . .

And UCF finishes off Penn State . . .

And Texas has crept back into the Ole Miss game . . .

And it's five seconds in and NW isn't winning yet :run:

And Notre Dame still sucks . . .

It's Sport's Illustrated, not the NCAA, and they made the amazing discovery of sex and drugs on a college campus. The sex article was pretty funny when read with the SI Swimsuit edition in mind.

Also, tough to argue OSU is the 5th best team in the Big XII. My pick to win doesn't look good, but surely they're better than TT & Kansas. Baylor . . ?

Worried about our defensive line out there and coverage on some plays but our offense is good

Does anybody think Stanford can stop Oregon . . ?

If the Big Four finish with undefeated champs, who do you want to see play . . ?

EDIT: Manziel's individual performance today was the 2nd best in the history of the SEC. The overall best was Manziel's performance vs. LaTech last year . . .

The Texas sun certainly beat the crap out of Nick Saban's nose . . .

Isn't it pretty obvious that the SEC and Pac-n are the best conferences? I'd think that would be the simplest title matchup, all else being equal.

That may be true, but it's possible that OSU will be better than Oregon when it's all said and done. Oregon looks like the most complete team outside of Bama right now though, that's for sure.

Cal kinda sucks right now, but in 2 years, they're going to be a top 10 team, with that system and their skill talent.

Tough to pick Oregon or Stanford over Clemson if Clemson has wins over Georgia, South Carolina and FSU. It's kind of like the Alabama/LSU year, you really really want to set two teams against each other, but the resumes won't let you . . .

No chance an undefeated Ohio State beats out an undefeated Oregon for the second spot. OSU vs. anyone else is still entirely viable if the SEC plays their way out . . .

Alabama has not shown anything to anybody that should have anyone saying we're a complete team. I'd give Ole Miss a 10-25% chance of beating us if we played today. Happily, we've got two weeks to reflect on our suckitude . . .

And Cal's alright. They're working their way into that West Coast style. They seem to live on the cusp though . . .
