2017 NFL Regular Season Thread

One thing that pisses me off is the injury of Myles Garrett. He will not single-handedly make the Browns win games (or anything close to it) but if he's great as everyone expects, it should be enjoyable just to watch him play.

I shouldn't be surprised by 4th quarter anymore meltdowns and yet...

I'm really shocked how bad Arizona looks though. Indy on paper should be the second worst team in the league but are somehow holding on to a short lead. The Cards O-line in particular looks downright terrible. They could pull out a win though

Titans recovered well from last week. Good to see it's more fun when Houston gets some competition from that division instead of getting a free playoff spot.

It's sad that the only team that's worse than Colts sans-Luck(I assume you're referring to the Jets) is only that way because they're doing it on purpose, and I honestly wonder if they really are worse. Probably yes now that the Colts have Brissett because at least he has a goddamn pulse(unlike Tolzien).

Speaking of bad I had kind of accepted the end was here after the 2015 season but it's painful to see it unfold. Trading a franchise QB midseason sounds effing dumb but we need to get anything we can for Brees for the future rebuild(done by someone besides Mickey Loomis PLEASE) because he's 100% gone after the year. We can't tag him and why in God's name would he waste the final couple years of his career with this dumpster fire?

Yeah the Jets are intentionally tanking it's astounding how bad the Colts have gotten, they've whiffed on like 5 drafts in a row at this point. Honestly they may be worse, it's a toss-up and that's sad.

Seahawks continuing the tradition of playing down to their opponents. 49ers really should be a team they blow out.

Sundays are ruined. By NFL rules I have "regional coverage" of the Chargers game on one network and the Rams game on the other. This is going to be a weekly event and that makes for a looooooonnnngggg season. It might not be so bad if it weren't for the fact that both networks recognize that these are the dog games of the day and have assigned bar none their worst announcers and production teams.

On chargers game: I am almost 100% sure they are looking for a new kicker. They lost two games in a row the exact same way.

Aaron Rodgers throws a pick two games in a row (and possibly more tonight.) The refs were blatantly on Green Bay's side in the Seattle game and now when a perfectly fair call go there way McCarthy whines. I'm glad that fatass got a 15-yard penalty for complaining, I wish it would happen to him every time. As a Green Bay hater, I'm very happy.

AFC West is gonna be a slugfest. Throwback to the glory days.

Speaking of throwbacks, the new Raiders paid tribute to the bad boy days when they weren't afraid to openly mock other teams. Carr's audible call facing a goal line play as the Jets D stacked the line to stop Lynch: "Seattle, Seattle," which apparently means "we aren't gonna hand it to Lynch no matter how obviously it seems like we should." Difference being that he then threw a touchdown instead of an interception.

So you admit the 49ers are a poor team.

Well at least it's only temporary until Dean Spanos gets tired of somehow being second-fiddle to another team that can't even fill its stadium* its eventually finds a city to hoodwink into a stadium.

*though if the team won't put in the effort to not suck, the fans shouldn't fill the stadium

Define "poor"... I mean if you are saying that they suck and that any team that can only squeak by them by 3 points has some glaring deficits of their own... then yes I do admit that.;)
I figured the fact that he routinely describes them as a "dumpster fire" meant he had already admitted that.
When I read this I thought "really?" I mean I realize that I don't even attempt to hide my disgust with the 49ers organization as of late... but "routinely describes them as a dumpster fire" seemed harsh of me... I mean its still my beloved 49ers we are talking about here :p So I checked... and AFAICT, I've only called them that once
For reference, 1st tier to me is a dynasty status team... right now that's really only the Pats. 2nd tier is a legit Superbowl contender. 3rd tier is a legit playoff hopeful. 4th tier is a .500 hopeful and 5th tier is "rebuilding"/dumpster-fire (ie 49ers:sad:)
Which also ironically brings something else up... because in that same post I also poo-poo'd all that Alex Smith worship going on in this thread:
In re: Alex Smith

Ol' Alex has 1 or 2 games like that in him per season. The rest of the season will be same old typical mediocre Alex Smith we know and love. 30 for 40 with 200ish yds and 1ish TD. He has proven this year after year.
FTR... Alex Smith passed for 251 yards and 1TD this week.

...I'm not sure if you're trying to say 21-28 is close to 30-40 (it's not) or if 251 is "200ish" (it's not, it's technically closer to 300ish but that would also be dumb to say).

At least you got the TDs right, I guess?

The more notable thing is Andy Reid actually ran the damn ball 4 straight plays in a close game in the 4th.

My bad. In my defense you've never argued with me when I called them a dumpster fire, and I've done it a lot.

They blew out their opponent week one, so I don't see how 'well, they suck' is an excuse for not supporting them. However, "their" stadium isn't built yet, and the stadium they are playing in does suck, so I doubt they are going to sell it out, ever. Spanos is on the hook at least until that stadium is finished and the Chargers move in there...which will be a boon to fans in LA for sure. The Dolphin fans, who outnumbered the Charger fans, were a little cramped there in the Stubhub Arena.

I want to emphasize something about the Chargers that I said before that seems to have gotten ignored. The Chargers would have been 2-0 rather than 0-2 were it not for a kicker missing a field goal attempt (and an easy one, at that) during the final seconds of a game in both games.

What I'm trying to say, which I thought was pretty clear...but I guess not maybe??... is that Alex Smith was and is mediocre. I think I already said that, but whateves I'll just repeat it since it got missed somehow.

What's a little amusing is that the way I found out his stats was a coworker came into my office this morning and said "Wow you were right on the money about Alex Smith! 200 something yards a 1TD just like you said he would! I'm glad I didn't pick him up in fantasy! One of the guys in my league got him on waivers after you warned me not to and started him, now hes pissed! Great advice thanks!"

I said exactly the same thing to him as I said to you guys... Like I said... amusing.

Well, one was blocked, not missed, and 44 yarders aren't exactly "gimmies." But no matter what comes after "they'd have won if..." it is always beside the point.

It didn't get missed. The evidence with which you supported it got dismissed. The question is whether you are gonna just stick to it after the evidence got dismissed.

Fact: Alex Smith was doing a good job as the 49ers QB, got hurt, and the coach defied the general rule that you don't change starters as a result of an injury by giving his job permanently to the backup. The 49ers now look stupid since the coach AND the replacement QB have both subsequently been run out of the league and Alex Smith is leading a very strong contender.

I suspect that your position on Alex Smith has more to do with the faceful of egg the 49ers are wearing than his actual performance.
