21 years on this forum

This is a random comment. I just noticed today that I have been a member of this forum for 21 years. How many of you have this forum as a significant part of your childhood?

Remarkable how long you have been here, and not drawn into the spam of OT! 😂

With barely 300 posts stretched over those 21 years, what keeps bringing you back? The ultimate lurker? :)

On and off for 20 years for me. I remember joining at the tail end of high school. I came for the mods for Civ3 and made a few units back in the day.

I lurked for a long while before signing up, mostly reading CIV IV tips & tricks. CIV V infuriated me enough to register & post!! So I'm only a teenager as far as my account goes, but quite longer in terms of reading.

EDIT: This is not limited to this forum, but I am often *amazed* at the amount of posts people have. Sometimes by people who have been here a lot fewer years than me. No judgment meant, it just astounds me when, on any site where I'm a member, I see people with 10's of thousands of posts - I've averaged roughly 111 posts per year here. And I often think I post too much! :hammer2:

Double-EDIT: found my very first post hating on CIV V: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/my-civ-v-thoughts.383032/
(it is quite the rant - I am proud of my 13-years-ago self's debut on this forum!)

I joined for Civ 2 Units, i used to mainly post on apolyton (as that was where the Civ 2 Scenatio League was baed, until it moved here after apolyton went unstable for a while), before i lost interest, and then it died and now it is undead.

It's one of my ambitions to make it past the bottleneck of high-post count people who have stalled since they aren't around anymore.

I don't remember my first OT post. I originally came here for Civ II. I read some stuff in Civ III, and joined in a thread in Civ IV. I still post occasionally in Civ II.

I've been thinking of reviving my NaNoWriMo threads in A&E. Everything starts up again in November and it would be nice if it wasn't just me, talking to myself. Zkribbler and I used to share and bounce ideas around, though he never did NaNo. He was willing to offer ideas for naming my characters, though (one of them is still going by a placeholder, 4 years after I began this project).

According to my join-date, I've had an account here for 13-years-plus-some-months now.

I was pretty late to the Civ-party, though. Bought a copy of CivDOS in 2002, played it almost exclusively until 2006. Stalled out at King-level (on the Earthmap), went looking for hints online, discovered CFC, and started visiting to read pretty much every strategy article that ever got posted in the CivDOS section, before finally joining a year or so later. Not coincidentally, I upgraded to Civ III later on that same year.

But I was already a 30+ adult (allegedly) by that point.

Just passed the 15 year mark here, other forums (such as 'poly and the now defunct CGN) over 20 years. Mainly started out here lurking in the Alpha Centauri forum, but as membership declined at other sites this became my go to place for SMAC.

D

I'll be averaging about 2000 posts a year soon ;)

Is this around the 30k mark? I notice most of the highest post count people are no longer with us...

Around that, yeah. I'd have more, but lost the post count I had from the staff forum when I became "retired." It used to be that we also lost post count from archived serial threads, but thankfully that's no longer the case.

I joined this site, IIRC, 15 years ago but like others, I was on it before making an account for civ mods and info.
I only really started posting heavily in 2016? or 2015? Something like that?

laughs at "childhood"

cries at "childhood"

Not a significant portion of my childhood, since I joined at age 44 (to ask a question about Civ III). But a significant portion of my life, now, has been squandered posting on this site.

Oh yeah... way too much... .

You are a baby :p

I still miss Borrachio, I wonder what he is doing.

Apparently I've joined on October 25th, 2001. I think I did so in order to publish a world map for Civ3. That was 21 years ago, oh boy... more than half of my life!

I was young and stupid back then. Now I turned old and stupid.
You were member #2791. Two months later when I joined (Dec 24), I was #8368. The members were growing rapidly. By Jan 3 2002, just ten days after I joined @Thorgalaeg joined at number 9284. That is almost 1000 more members in just over a week.

You are still young and French! :D

IIRC I downloaded your map and played on it regularly.
