This is just stupid. It's funny that Iran wants us to humour them about what they say and and do and yet they complain about something like this. It just goes to show that they're an extremely over-sensitive bunch and the world of the future will be an unsafe place because of that.

Warner Bros.' hit movie 300 has become the latest powder keg in relations between the U.S. and Iran. The movie, which earned $71 million at the box office last weekend, is based on the ancient battle of Thermopylae in which, according to Western lore, a force of 300 Spartans held off thousands of Persian soldiers. As reported by the Associated Press, Javad Shamghadri, cultural adviser to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, charged that the film represented another effort by the U.S. to humiliate Iran in order to "compensate for its wrongdoings in order to provoke American soldiers and warmongers" against Iran. The independent newspaper Ayende-No, said beneath the headline, "Hollywood Declares War on Iranians," "The film depicts Iranians as demons, without culture, feeling or humanity, who think of nothing except attacking other nations and killing people. ... It is a new effort to slander the Iranian people and civilization before world public opinion."

Pffffff. Reminds me of some Greeks' outrage that Alexanded was depicted as gay in "Alexander the Great".
As if we had anything to do with what happened 2,000 years ago. Hey, these persians were pagans! Not even Muslims! THEY ARE HERETICS!

I do not think that the US can in any logical way be linked to Sparta or any other of the ancient city states. Iran is not exactly Xerxes' Persia either :)

You have a movie about 300 brave white men battling 1 trillion arabs. What did you expect to happen? Well, did anyone inform your royal higness cultural adviser that this movie is based on a comic made in 1998? No? Oh dear.

Personally i loved the Alexander movie :) And it did get very positive reviews in Greece & was popular. I think that you confused it with Troy and the much dissapointment about the ruin of Homer :mischief:

 yeah that too :)

No I'm pretty certain I remember a couple of Greeks whining about how bad it was to depict Alexander as a gay man.

General controversy

Even prior to its release, there was controversy about the film's depiction of ancient Greek sexual mores. A group of 25 Greek lawyers initially threatened to file a lawsuit against both Stone and the Warner Bros. film studio for what they claimed was an inaccurate portrayal of history. Yannis Varnakos stated that "We are not saying that we are against bisexuals or homosexuals, but we are saying that the production company should make it clear to the audience that this film is pure fiction and not a true depiction of the life of Alexander". After an advanced screening of the film, the lawyers announced that they would not pursue such a course of action [1].

What is wrong with these Persians? They are in denial. They moan about people calling their country Persia, then they moan about when Persians are beaten by a group of Greeks in some Americain-oven moviemizationismizationism movie. "Iranians" were not beaten, "Persians" were.

The ones who attacked Persia are the GREEKS!!!!! Are they that silly that they think anything that "bashes" the Iranians are evil?

Xerxes could wipe the floor with Ahmadinejad.

Cleraly another example of the Vast Grecco-American Conspiracy to destroy Iran.

What are you talking about? The Greco-American conspiracy is against Turkey.

Actually the Iranians consider the Achemenids (starting from Cyrus the Great) as the fathers of the Iranian/Persian nation.

what probably triggers the reaction in Iran is how the Persians are stereotypically portrayed as freedom-crushing enemy of the west (represented by the Greeks). History films are touchy subjects anyway and they're bound to insult someone in one way or another (if someone made a film about the Armenian Genocide then that would upset the Turks, for example).

Iran needs to pay for killing a fine chocolatier like Leonidas!

I think the Persians get a pretty good reputation in Civ4. Cyrus looks like a nice guy and no one ever complains about Cyrus stabbing them in the back.

But in Warlords, just about the only strategy that can be use with Cyrus is war (due to trait changes). His favourite civic was changed from Representation to Vassalage and he backstabs more often. :scared:

Iran needs to stop wetting her knickers and whining to the teacher everytime anyone in the West says anything about her.

Everyone gets offended when someone refers to their past and insults them...

I mean come on, wouldn't it sorta piss you off if President Putin made a live announcement and said:

"George Washington, was a *****!!!"

Or something.

Though, I due think the Iranians are going a bit to far.

Are we saying that? That the Persians are *****!!!"?
