'300' Lights Fuse in Iran

I dunno, I kind of see their point.

Then again, the fact that they can't see OUR point about holocaust-denial cartoon contests? Kind of evaporates any sympathy I have.

Are we saying that? That the Persians are *****!!!"?

Its being referred that they are monsters.

Think of it like one of those "Well your mother is so ugly" jokes...

Instead of making one back, they just whine and eventually blow themselves up.

Haven't they said the same of us?

didn't the Iraqies and Afganistanese say it as well... And what happened to them?

There's no real need to make this a divisive issue between the cultures. If you do, then you're playing into this moron's hands.

You do realize that Persians were not Arabs?

And indeed, neither are the Iranians of today.

And what folks in authoritarian societies need to realize is that in America, movies are not made by the government. If the Iranians have an issue with this, it should be with Frank Miller, who wrote the story. Not with "America" or the US government.

Oh come on. Do you honestly believe the average American even knows where Persia was, furthermore its connection with Iran? They need to buy 'Propaganda for Dummies'

Everyone gets offended when someone refers to their past and insults them...

I mean come on, wouldn't it sorta piss you off if President Putin made a live announcement and said:

"George Washington, was a *****!!!"

Or something.

Though, I due think the Iranians are going a bit to far.

no it would be more like saying chief Generic Nativeamerican was a poopy head and assuming that because the United States of America is now located on what was once native american land that it should somehow offend us. Iran may be located in what was once part of the Persian empire but the people are quite different now. and it would be hard to make comparisons between the US and Sparta.

Well the Iranian do have a right to be angered by the depictions of their ancestors as monsters. I would ask how would you feel if your ancestors were depicted as such but I know that someone would answer "I wouldn't care" but I know that I'd be angered/disgusted if my ancestors were depicted as such.

What is wrong with these Persians? They are in denial. They moan about people calling their country Persia, then they moan about when Persians are beaten by a group of Greeks in some Americain-oven moviemizationismizationism movie. "Iranians" were not beaten, "Persians" were.

Modern day Persians are descendant from Persians of that Persian empire. They do not moan about being shown beaten, they moan at their ancestors being depicted as monstrous mutants.

I think they have every right to protest. The movie is absurd and comparable to the nazi propaganda movies. There is no "grecco-american" conspiracy to destroy Iran, there are clear American plans to surround and crush Iran.

If they actually watched the movie, they would see that the movie implied that the monsterous mutants came from some of the many nations that Persia conquered. It's hard to take people seriously when they're upset about a movie that they haven't actually seen. Ahmadinejad is playing the Iranians (and Princeps) like a fiddle.

So lets say, hypothetically, the U.S. government agreed with you, that this movie is absurd and comparable to nazi propaganda. What exactly should be done ?

They don't need to agree.

Nothing relating to the movie at least. Just that the movie makers should know better the next time.

As for what should be done. US should withdraw from Iraq or at least begin rational discussion with Iran.

Ahmadinejad is playing the Iranians (and Princeps) like a fiddle.

My opinions are very much my own.

The movie may have not been intended to be propaganda, but had it been published in Nazi germany, we would compare it to the other propaganda works. The movie depicts Persians as monsters in a time when US is moving against Iran and openly bullies its government.

I'd expect more of the same from movie-makers, since 300's opening weekend was a resounding success (they're job is to make money, and this movie did that)

"300" has nothing to do with the current war in Iraq, and nothing to do with Iran's nuclear program.

The Iranian cultural minister must really have too much time on his hands to complain about a movie based on a comic book.

The movie depicts Persians as monsters in a time when US is moving against Iran and openly bullies its government.

Yeah, and?

Do you think Frank Miller intended this, back in 1998, when 300 was released? Do you think he foresaw the events of 2006/2007 as well as the eventual release of the movie based on his work?

Because if you don't, then you're going to have to concede that this is nothing but coincidence and that you do not have a point.

Those Iranians ought to get the blacks and asians on their side, since they were part of the great army being defeated by 300 brave white men. Then we'll really see how racist that movie is!!!!
