I've seen the previews and I guessed it was about Thermoplye, but what's with all the wierdness? They took a great story about war and turned it into a farce.

It was orginally done for a comic book by the same guy who wrote Sin City. It's all about making it attractive to people who buy comic books. It isn't meant to be historically accurate but it is entertaining to some people.

It's also stupid. Todays Iranians have nothing in common with the ancient Persians, culturally speaking.
It's like when French think they're Gauls.
I especially like the part of the statement where they boast about never loosing a battle - well, the movie itself refers to a war, in which a tiny nation of free (more or less) people defeated a huge empire of slaves.

Persian culture influenced Islamic culture greatly. They still have much in common, Arabic culture didn't only invade, it mixed with it all.

Some people of Iran are extremely like ancient days of Achemedians and Darius and other Kings
They protest against every sign of anti-Darius and other kings
they also has proclaimed that ancient Persia HAS NOT BEEN DRAFTED BY GREECE
Before this problem of nuclear program, government don't pay attention to them because government don't like ancient days of pre Islamic time
but in this days government grabes anything to show that Americans are satanic
this film and its protesters had such story in Iran. Some stupid people use their freedom of speech and protest against this film, government in this situation uses this protest to show that satanic USA wanna to distory Iranian and Iran.

What the hell is that map supposed to illustrate? The U.S. doesn't have bases or soldiers in all of those countries, and a few of them are even hostile our government.

It did, but it was the culture of Sassanid Persia, not Achaemenid Persia. The ancient Persia was destroyed by Alexander the Great. It had been greatly influenced by Greek culture.
Iranians share very little with the ancient Persians, they have no reason to complain about history (this movie isn't historical anyway, it is a comics adaptation).

Obviously this wasn't directed at the western world, but at other middle east countries and Iran itself, to make the muslims hate the US even more.
