Would you have preferred they release something akin to Daikatana, just to get it finished?

I suppose it's a matter of personal preference whether a lousy game is better than no game. Either way, I am sad to see such a storied running joke - and a formerly great developer - die. Surely, though, given the popularity of the franchise it'll get finished eventually? The trailer JtheJackal linked looks like a game well on its way to completion.

Someone finally figured out that business decisions shouldn't be affected by sunk costs?

Oh come now, the Guns'N'Roses album Chinese Democracy had to have been in development for more than a decade, and it was released.

There's a difference between music, which (should, unless it's absolute rubbish) have no aging, and games which can age withing a few years.

Great music becomes better with age, it becomes timeless. Sorta like a good wine.
Great games often peter out and become a memory. Decent games burn brightly for a bit and then vanish.

Duke Nukem Forever will be another unremarkable brown FPS and is doomed to be received with high criticism and cynicism. They should let it go.

Maybe now it'll end up like the Arrested Development or Samurai Jack movies.

A bit of a raunchy game but that is to be expected, isn't it?
