More Unique Components for Vox Populi

3rd and 4th Unique Components for VP - Official thread 88.10

Ok, should I release new version?

Heh, I know, I know. But I read that there's some issue with ENW. I don't quite understand how we can make this incompatibility if we do not change any naval late game units beside Yamato or Armada...

Ok, should I release new version?
It is a problem with obsolete techs. Currently, the armada is the only mid-late game unit that has a line for how to obsolete if ENW is downloaded, even though corsairs replace the same unit, and there are other units to consider

EE compatibility is also spotty. There’s many errors, and while I fixed a few small ones yesterday, there’s still a lot of problems with upgrade and obsolete techs

Kittykat made a decent write up of what (s)he saw:
American Monitor does not expire.
Byzantium Dromon expires at Navigation when there is no new naval range unit for them (should expire at exploration).
Chinese XiaFan GuanJun expires at Electronics instead of Radio.
Indonesian Prau expires at Navigation instead of Astronomy.
Morrocan Corsair expires at Rocketry instead of Combustion.
Spanish Armada expires at Rocketry instead of Combustion.
Venician Great Gallese expires at Dynamite instead of Warship.
Venician Futsa upgrade into Frigate immediately skipping Galleon and expire at Dynamite instead of Warship (which follow the unique unit expiring thingy as it skips Galleon).

A bit confused with Korean Turtle ship as it replaces caravel instead of carrack as stated in the description but does not upgrade to carrack instead skipping it into corvette before expiring in industrialisation which is ironclad.

Note: I use both VPEE and VPENW which might be the reason why only the naval unit has issues

Do you have problem with dependency while using latest github of MUCfVP?

EDIT: Don;t know why, but all VP parts had different ids...

Ok @KittyKat3120 I suppose you have problem with mod load order. Check if ENW and VPEE loads before MUCfVP. If not, cut MUCfVP, paste it to another folder, then cut it again and paste it to mods folder. If you do so, it will be "fresher" mod than ENW and VPEE and all changes made there should be applied in our compatibility patch. I can't replicate your errors f.e. Penteconter expires at Guilds and Dromon at Warships_EE.

I will post fix for this, and additional ENW-EE compatibility patch.

These are optional patches which trigger when you use EE or ENW mod.

Code:
- ENW and ENW+EE compativbility fix:
    - Armada ==> obsoletes at Combustion if only ENW or at Dynamite if ENW+EE,
    - Corsair ==> obsoletes at Combustion if only ENW,
    - Monitor ==> obsoletes at Rocketry if only ENW,
    - Xiafan Guanjun ==> obsoletes at Radio if only ENW.

@KittyKat3120 Can you verify if now it is ok?
@FoxOfWar Thanks for checking VPEE. I hope there is everything fine there.

@Cat-du-fromage something for you:
v43 released!

At your service :)

Thanks for your quick work, AE. OP has been updated and Descriptions of UCs have all been changed to match the current version.

Before anyone asks, I am aware that the Pogost text does not say it gives -1:c5unhappy: from poverty. I am aware that the Waag text says it gives -1:c5unhappy: from poverty, even though it doesn't.

The two were changed this morning in a VP ninja edit. Both buildings do exactly what they are supposed to, but the text was not updated. If you absolutely need the correct text it's up on Github now, but it's not worth posting a new version.

K so finally now, after dreaded weeks of refraining from this beauty due to all the recent changes and overhauls to VP, I may safely use it again without problems (other than the minor text issue above)?

@pineappledan , does it include the custom house change you mentioned earlier?

Yes. Pogost and Waag both are anchored to update the building's info based on what the base building (customs house/banks), so they automatically are updated and are ready to go

On my Ethiopia game i found out that monolithic churches built on featureless hills are only getting the finishing policy tree bonuses, while those built in stone resources are recieving the full bonuses (pantheon and religion beliefs included), is this intended? I'm playing in the latest version of 4UC and VP.

Question I raised before, but it got sidetracked by the Huey Teocalli discussion:

The Aztec Eagle. Is it any good, in y'alls experience? To me it feels almost like a filler/niche unit unless you're straight up diving into Domination from the word go - and keeping at it throughout the early ages. It's very good at the classical warfare thing (although it not being an upgrade to Jaguars feels rather awkward at points), but I don't think Montezuma exactly had difficulties in the melee units department to begin with, and arguably Jaguars are just better due to the jungle bonus and self-heal, even with the +5 CS in Eagle's favor.

oh good lord, if we had made Jaguars upgrade to eagles there would be hell to pay. We managed to have only 2 instances of UUs upgrading into each other, and never in quick succession (Ethiopia, Arabia), and I would credit that to us as righteousness.

I found them to be very useful in my playthroughs. They put Aztecs in a rather enviable position of having too many workers very early, where you can build out all your improved infrastructure super-fast, then sell them off. I usually don’t hit that point until industrial with any other civ.
