4 cops vs. skateboarder. You know where this is going.

I understand the guy was skateboarding against traffic... If thats the case the "law" is the problem, as somebody who grew up riding bikes in the big city (and as a jaywalker) I never liked laws requiring cyclists to have their backs to traffic. I wanna be able to see whats coming toward me so I can react.

Crump?

I almost hope he loses

I think most people make it through life without that occurring. You know, they obey the law and stuffs.....

The kind of 'fact' that is true until someone close to you becomes an unfortunate victim.

Also, breaking any law is a good reason for getting beaten by the police now? The logic authoritarians employ is bemusing.

Perhaps you mean rampant?

Though I suppose there might be a scandal on the rampart(s). Especially as it's a skateboarder.
Rampart is a division in the LAPD where misconduct and racist activities were particularly plentiful in the past.

I just can't wait till you're beaten bloody by the police (shouldn't be as difficult in the USA as in most other developed countries) so that someone can make a thread about it and I can make irrelevant snide jokes in the thread about the incident.

Well Chicago Police just started accepting application again after a three years hold. I think I may apply and preempt any chance for that.

Glad to see LA's violent crime problem has dropped to the point they can focus on harmless crimes.

Today I Learned something after all. Thanks.

I'm quite surprised, though, that people generally seem to expect a higher moral standard from police officers than they do of others. Or maybe they don't. I don't know.

I don't know about higher. But we do generally expect them to not be felons or racists, at least these days.

Yes. But is that a reasonable expectation? Why should police officers be any more likely not be racists and felons than anyone else?

Because they are supposedly specifically chosen to not be so?

It is pretty lame to be a skateboarder, when you had problems with the police. Parkour would obviously negate any ability of the cops to even catch him.

Well, that's nice in theory. All you can really do, though, is weed out those who already have a police record.

Leaving you with those who have been too sensible (or not adventurous or unlucky enough) to get one.

Or maybe there're other factors I don't know about.

I know a guy who applied to be a cop with the LAPD. He had no criminal record but he failed the polygraph test.

Four on one seems unnecessary, one is basically all that is necessary for dealing with a traffic violation.
