5CC Regent Training Game

That's also a majority, so 10 turns. When we reach the MA, we'll vote again if we want to keep 10 turns or move to 5 turns. If we don't move to 5 turns in the MA, we will the IA.

Once I have time, I'll play 10 turns. I can't do it right now as it is too late here and my parents make me go to bed early on school nights. :( Hopefully, I'll be able to play in the next 24-48 hours or so.

Then, someone else needs to take it so we can make an actual roster.

Okay, I'm finished. I played 11 turns because of the kind of 9-turn set of Hawk, and also because I just HAD to see something.

Of Note:

I've made a trade with Babylon to get Warrior Code. Please tell me after seeing the trade if this was a good idea or not.

Hammy has Furs.

Now, for da set!

Pre-Turn (3550 BC):
-Everything, except the irrigated grassland, looks good.

IBT:
-The worker finishes roading the irrigated grassland.

Turn 1 (3500 BC):
-I decide to mine the grassland. Sorry, Hawk, but an irrigated grassland with no food bonus is useless until we leave Despotism, which is gonna be a while. We can irrigate it when we get into Monarchy. ;)
-An exploring warrior sights Babylonian Borders.

IBT:
-Istanbul gets a border expansion.

Turn 2-Turn 3 (3450-3400 BC):

IBT:
-Worker finishes mine

Turn 4 (3350 BC):
-Contact Babylon. Hammy is cautious, and he has Furs.
-I trade Alpha for WC and 10 gold:

-Our military is strong compared to the Babs. :)
-Set Lux to 20 to prevent a riot in Istanbul.

IBT:
:coffee:

Turn 5-Turn 6 (3300-3250 BC):
More

IBT:
-Istanbul: Granary->Worker (Chosen because it was going to grow next turn, and would also build a Worker in 1 turn)

Turn 7 (3200 BC):
:coffee:

IBT:
-Istanbul: Worker->Settler

Turn 8 (3150 BC):
-MM Istanbul to grow and produce Settler in 3.

IBT:
Drink more :coffee:

Turn 9-Turn 10 (3100-3050 BC):
 some more

IBT:
-Istanbul: Settler->Rax (May be vetoed)

Turn 11 (3000 BC):
-Set Lux back to 0.
-I see a chokepoint. With 2 cities, we can build a canal...

End Turn Stuff:
-Screenie Below, with some dots.
-If the 2 Red dot cities are built, we'll have a canal through the continent.
-The Blue dot city is, I believe, a good idea.
-As for our 5th city, it should probably be somewhere around the gold hill.
-Babylon has CB up for trade.

Here's Da Screenie:

Good turnset Choxorn. I would've either picked Barracks or a settler escort. The trade was good. Mining the grassland makes sense. I really think we need to put our settler on or around the gold hill down south. That will protect us from Babylon claiming land around our capital. Plus, there might be iron there. The next city I would settle would be next to the grapes. After Rax, we should build another settler. Then, once we have 3 working cities, we attack Babylon.

I would say we have to build an archer or two before attacking, and some defensive units in the towns the settlers will build. ;)

Agreed.

Who's next? ;)

Roster:
choxorn: Just Played
???: UP
???: On Deck
???
???

The ???'s need to be filled with Tasslehoff, Hawk Chieftain, Tad Empire, and Jokeslayer.

I'll take it, play this weekend, but I'd like some kind of consensus on general strategy.

So far, I have barracks-->archers, new city build warrior or spearman.

But where should I place the city?

Somewhere near the gold hill. I'd say 1 SE of it looks the best.

Alternatively, you could also build a city 1E of the Wines.

I just PM'd Jokeslayer to get his input on Choxorn's turnset & what to do next.

I pretty much agree with Hawk's assessment.

The trade was definitely a good one, and mining the grassland is also a good plan. And I think we should get a barracks and go on the offensive ASAP. The faster we hit them, the easier it will be (although part of me also wants to wait for mathematics and get three or four catapults into the mix, as the babs will have spears). If we find iron we can do without them for now, though.

I like the gold hill for a city location (not necessarily on the hill, but near there). The two cows to the east and the cow on a river by the babylonian borders also look good to me, but we should bust the fog between the red dots before we decide where to go next. (I'm not certain about the canal idea, but it's probably not a bad one. Besides, those look like decent positions anyway).

At the very least, the Wines city is a good idea. Probably, by the time we have our 5th Settler, we should be able to see whether or not the Canal is a good idea.

Ok, I've played only 5 turns. I researched Iron Working, and popped CB. However, I'd like the group to give me an opinion. Here's the situation:

As you see, the settler is SE of the gold hill, but theres Iron on the mountain two North. Should I move the settler so the city grabs the iron, or should we just wait and get the iron north of Istanbul?

Also, Babylon has Mysticism and is willing to trade it for Masonry. Should I make the trade?

We currently have only 1 gold in our treasury, so I don't think we can do much fast researching for a while.

we should settle around our lake & take the grass/goldhill spot quickly as there might be horses & the AI will settle it first

Since when do AI's have unescorted Settlers?

Anyway, just move 1N. You'll still get the river and the gold, and you'll get the Iron in addition.

Don't worry, Babylon won't beat you, unless they have edited into the game and so that cities can be built on mountains. ;)
