5CC Space Race interest thread

I've played a few turns and Portugal has discovered the Republic. They won't trade it for Monarchy and Construction so I'm thinking we gift them Construction and try to trade for Republic with Monarchy, Feudalism and Monotheism. Anyone have any ideas on this situation?

Absolutely. We need Republic ASAP.
 
Definately gift and trade, I guess we should look at pre builds for Universities too.
 
Oh yeah, we definitely want Republic. Feudalism alone should get it once they have the ability to trade for it, but do what it takes.
 
Grr. Sorry I haven't been able to work on it until today. So I loaded up Civ and went to trade for Republic. After I gifted Henry Construction, he somehow learned Feudalism instantly. Portugal isn't scientific and I don't think he had the GLib because he would've learned Construction from it. It happened immediately after I gifted Construc, I didn't leave the diplomacy screen much less end the turn. What gives? And he would'nt trade The Republic for Monotheism and Monarchy.
 
lurker's comment: At what stage did you make the trade? Did you go to the "What's the big picture" before your turn actually started? Definitely seems odd.

Whatever the case may be, you can still probably buy republic for money, if you run maximum tax or even convert citizens to taxmen.
 
Yeah, try lowering science slider to 0, then buy it with maybe Monotheism and Monarchy; that really ought to do it. We could then sell them Theology for the gpt.

When did we get Feudalism, by the way?
 
^ doh, that would be why we couldn't trade Feudalism, we don't have it. Man I feel so stupid. Education is coming in only 2 turns so I'll it off after we get it.

Portugal discovers republic, they are still in ancienct age. If we gift them construction, we might be able to trade fuedalism and monotheism for the republic.

Finished the turn. We still don't have Republic. I started building Sistene in Rostov but we can use that towards Copernicus if we want. Moscow and Yaroslavl are building unis, Yekatinerinburg is building an Aqueduct in 6 with a chop coming in 2 but we can switch that to a uni too.

Someone else must have traded Feudalism with Republic with him, when we get Education remember it is a monopoly tech, we must get both REpublic and Feudalism for it, we must not give it away cheaply.

Maybe we can sell him Monotheism and then do a trade with Monarchy and Theology for Republic.

I agree on GPT deal with DWetzel for Republic, with Monotheism and Monarchy thrown in, then we can sell Theology.

It would be good to revolt before learning Education.
 
Got it, and I have done some immediate wheeler dealing the upshot of is we have both republic and feudalism and have kept Education as a monopoly and have a net profit on gold per turn and are at peace with everybody, I will immediately revolt.
 
I have played through to 210BC and IBT the Portugese demand Education, I politely told them where to go and they declared, (unfortunately this lost us 15 gpt), we now have the option to get alliances against them for which we need embassies any thoughts

I am also tempted to sell of education to increase our gpt, any thoughts
 
No, we don't sell Education. We need to make sure nobody sneaks off with Copernicus' Observatory, which we are probably about at the point of starting a prebuild for (maybe)?

If we have Republic, we need to start a-revoltin' pretty fast (assuming we won't go busto with -gpt while in revolt).
 
I started Sistine depending whether we want that, we can use it as a prebuild. And I agree with not selling education if only because i don't it'll get us much gpt. The AI usually doesn't have much gpt to trade until the IA. If we do use the shields from Sistine, we are pretty much locked in for Copernicus however we might not be able to get Sistine which I don't think is that big of a deal since we already have 3 lux. Sistine isn't being built in the Colossus city though.
 
You almost surely want Sistine, as all cities will get cathedrals and work 18-20 tiles.
 
Get a pre-build going for both Sistine and Copernicus. Those are both very useful for a 5cc game. We'll win without, but not as fast.
 
At 210BC we are already in rebublic, 6 turns of Astronomy, but running a significant deficit and unit support is high, I cant remember the exact figures but people will pay upto around 20 gpt for Education

We ran +11gpt in revolt, but are now at -4gpt from / to other civs, because the Portugese declared war, we have a healthy balance (400) and are running at a significant deficit (30gpt),

The portugese declaration is allowing 0% luxuries due to war happiness at the moment, but cities are still growing and adjustments may be required

Edit : the 30 gpt deficit and 400 gold are both approximate figures
 
Well if we're in Republic, we don't really need many MPs so we can disband any regular warriors and spears. And if we're done with improving tiles, we can join/disband workers.
 
Right its 150BC and we are a republic on Astronomy

Inventory

11 Native workers and 3 Slaves
8 Ancient Cavalry, a spearman, an Archer, 2 Warriors and a scout

We can support 13 Units and have 24 giving a cost of 22gpt.

It may be a good idea to look at colonies and joining workers, particularly 1 to Yekaritinburg and a 2 to sistine chapel build.

If we get an Iron Colony and another barracks we can build some pikes

Yekenberinturg is size 5 and has a library and an aqueduct, it is currently building a uni (this may be changed)

Yaroslav has a Market, University and Library is size 7 and is currently building a harbour

Moscow is size 11 and has Granary, Market, Library, Uni and hanging gardens and has pre build (sun tzu) for Coppernicus

Novograd is size 8 and has Market, Library and Uni , Aqueduct and Colossus and is building Harbour

Rostov is building Barracks, Library, Marketplace and Zeus, and is building Sistine (26 turns)

The vikings now have Great Library.

We are only Education ahead of the Vikings, Inca, Ottomans, Babylonians and I think the Portugese (with whom we are at war)

The Hittites and French are futher behind.

Before first turn, Get small amount of Gold for Polytheism fom the Vikes, Sell Momotheism to Portugal for GPT (15pt), make peace with hiitites for small amount of Gold

Make peace with Incans for 19GPT, Theology all our Gold, with Feudalism in return.

Then swap Feudalism and Theology for Republic with Henry, we cant do GPT deal with him, we must have trashed our rep somewhere down the line.

Sell Osman republic for 6GPT and Incans republic for all gold and 9 GPT, get rest of Hammys Gold for republic.

Every turn should keep checking Military Advisor for barb camp near cities, a source of Gold and training for Ancient Cavalry.


Other thoughts, it may be worth getting Military Alliance and right of passage with France against the Portugese and send some elite AC to try and generate military leader
