A Brave New World Part 2

Well here's a brief status report on the update I've been working on it for a total of nearly 12 straight hours, and it's still not done. I'm on page twelve (single-spaced and in Word) of the update at the moment, and the outline is about 2/3 complete, meaning there's still plenty to go.

What I'm hoping someone can answer is what the character count is for posting on the forum, as i need to know if I'll need 2 or 3 posts to post this damn thing.

Really important update, isn't it. *grin*

I think it's 15000 characters. Not 100% sure, but I believe that's the limit.

PM's are 10,000 characters, however, of posts I am not sure.

TRUCKS ENTER GLOBAL TRANSIT SYSTEMS. Paris, France. The new truck, as it is called by Virginians and Americans in general, has entered into the global economic stream from both the Virginian Empire and France. The new vehicles have potential for strong hauling systems across territory at quicker speeds than any horse and wagon could possibly hope to match. The new efforts in Virginian transit, though more focused upon the use of railroads and zeppelin ports, have still begun to incorporate some of these new vehicles for localized transportation. Some businesses have begun using these trucks for their own needs, but it’ll likely take some time before they completely integrate themselves into society.

ECONOMIC REPORT. Tsarityn, Russian Federation. The recession has continued this year globally and even some strong economies have suffered as part of the downturn. The recession does seem to be lessening though and many hope that it’ll soon stabilize within the next few years. The collapse of the UNSA and the EACU may assist with economic global growth over time, but the future of North America has yet to be determined. The outbreak of war between the Republic of New England and the ISCG may also prove to destabilize the economy further, but only time will tell. As before a complete listing of economic changes is provided here:

FIGHTING RESUMES IN DESERET. Bringhamton, Deseret. Violence between Mormon and secular interests within the North American nation of Deseret resumed this year. The standing secular government has been plagued by various riots and uprisings over the past year by Mormon extremists as the bloodshed grows. Various Mormon groups have lauded recently passed Joseph Salt as a martyr for their cause, though many believed he passed away naturally. The military has managed to keep a hold on the violence and martial law has been declared across the country. Military forces have also been mobilized to the United Collectives border, who they claim have been acting against the government in order to install a regime of their own ideals. (-3 Infantry Brigades, -6 Manpower, -4 Stability)

IROQUOIS ELECTIONS. Mohawk, Iroquois Republic. The government of the Iroquois Republic had new election this year, as violence continues to rise throughout North America. The Iroquois Liberal Party has been successful in gaining control once again of both the Congress and the executive branch of the Presidency. The Liberals have pledged to keep the Iroquois people safe from the growing tide of anarchy that seems to be plaguing the continent. They have also promised to stay neutral in the erupting war between the International Socialist Cooperative Group and the Republic of New England. All hope that this neutrality will be maintained as fighting begins to intensify in Canada between the two groups. (-1 Stability)

COUP ATTEMPT IN FLORIDA. Saint Augustine, Florida. Another attempt was made against the Graham government of Florida this year by the nation’s military. The military conspiracy even proved temporarily successful, ousting Graham and his followers from their central headquarters in Saint Augustine. The military governor managed to escape from the capitol, however, and rallied resistance across the country. Heavy fighting grew increasingly extensive across the country, and it seemed that Graham was sure to lose. The turning of the tide came when Graham’s government managed to rally the support of the Seminole people as well as the white immigrants. The rebel military leaders were defeated when their positions around Saint Augustine were broken in a coordinated offensive. (-9 Infantry Brigades, -5 Artillery Brigades, -3 Stability)

RIOTS IN CHICAGO. Chicago, Free City of Chicago. The last Chicagoan elections’ race riots have continued to spark rising racial tensions to this day. The rising problems on the Great Lakes with the destruction of New Englander merchant vessels and the growing recession have caused the rise of ever greater concern among the people. New violence has erupted throughout the year as the whites blame the black minorities for their new problems. Several hundred are believed to have been injured while the city’s notorious “Bronze District” was nearly leveled by fires. Black leaders have called for an immediate response by the government for the rising issues. (-1 Stability)

CONSERVATIVES SPARK DISSENT IN VIRGINIA. Charleston, Virginian Empire. Ranking members of the Conservative Party have spoken out against the Unity and Liberal Parties, declaring them to be against the natural traditions of the Virginian nation. They have launched several rallies against the current government, including both the monarchy and the Liberal Party. They have rallied behind the House of Lee, calling the standing monarchy to be a pawn of big business. They have also declared that the Liberal Party has doomed the nation to foreign dominance and foolish alliance, stating the failed deals with the United Nation States and the Republic of New England. NAVAL CONFRONTATION OFF LONG ISLAND. New York City, Republic of New England. A minor naval engagement took place this year between New Englander and Pennsylvanian ships this year off the coast of Long Island. Two New Englander destroyers, on a regular patrol around the island ran into a blockade of Pennsylvanian ships. The leader of the blocking vessels accused the New Englanders of arms running into New Jersey to support the French there. Ultimately words turned into violence as a Pennsylvanian ship fired upon the New Englander vessels. Outnumbered and outgunned, the New Englander ships were sunk by the fire, though some of the crew survived and made it to shore. A single Pennsylvanian ship was also sunk by return fire, and many fear that war may soon erupt. Pennsylvanian troops have been massed on New England’s borders and both sides have been put on heavy alert for combat. (-2 Destroyers for New England, -1 Destroyer for Pennsylvania)

NEW ENGLAND PROTECTORATE EXPANDS. Quebec City, Quebec. The onset of the Canadian Civil War has brought about great rewards as well as great peril for the empire of the Republic of New England. Official recognition for the Republic of Quebec and the Republican government of Canada came at a price. These two factions have been brought officially into the New England Imperial Protectorate. This has greatly expanded the potential of the Republic of New England, securing much of the region’s industry and heartland for New Englander business. This has had an unfortunate effect upon the republican government of Canada, but that is further discussed below. The fighting in Canada has now taken on a new tone, as the Republic of New England enters full force in order to expand its empire.

REPUBLICAN CANADA DECLARES MARTIAL LAW. Ottawa, Canada. The entry into the New Englander Imperial Protectorate and the cession of land to the newfound Republic of Quebec has not gone over well within Canada. The republican Canadian government has seen a great amount of desertions and unrest following the announcement as more and more throw in their support for the nationalist cause against New England and Quebec. The rising amount of unrest has led to a declaration of martial law by the President as he becomes increasingly reliant upon the diminishing forces loyal to him and the armies of Quebec and New England to maintain order. (-3 Stability for Canada)

CANADIAN CIVIL WAR. Toronto, Canada. The war in Canada continued to escalate throughout the year as outside forces became increasingly involved in the fighting. The entry of Quebec and Canada into the New Englander Imperial Protectorate has outraged much of the United Nation States of America, who continue to offer support to the Nationalist government. Quebecois and New Englander military forces have moved in to support the republican government of Canada, hoping to preserve order in the regions which still recognize their control. This has resulted in some limited fighting as confusion dominated the first few weeks between the Quebecois and Canadians. The first great offensive came across Lake Erie as New Englander ships and marines smashed the Nationalist Great Lakes surface fleet and made landfall east of Toronto. However, this attack has turned into disaster as superior Canadian numbers and a large amount of tanks prevent the New Englanders from moving forward. Casualties continue to mount as the nationalists throw wave after wave of soldiers at the faltering New Englander positions, especially as the harshness of winter begins to set in. In the west, some limited fighting has taken place between the Quebecois and forces of the People’s Republic. Most notably has been the entry of United Collective forces into Canadian territory, fighting under their own organization along side their ideological allies. Several small battles have been reported within the People’s Republic as the elite Red Brigade smashed a small force of Imperial Stormtroopers in several minor skirmishes along the Canadian-Metis border. The Great Lakes have become a battleground of their own as submarines begin rampaging across the region, sinking merchant ships and causing no end of trouble, virtually shutting down shipping.

GEORGIA ANNOUNCES POSSIBLE COMPROMISE. Savannah, Georgia. Due to last year’s large scale protests by the Georgian Liberal Party, the Klannist government of James Dahl has announced a compromise with the Liberal Party leaders. Full and free elections are scheduled to be held in the late months of 1937, giving both the Ku Klux Klan and the Liberal Party ample time to prepare their campaigns. An important issue arose, and under pressure and threat of civil war, the Georgian government has agreed to allow the nation’s negroes the right to vote in the upcoming elections. This has sparked a series of race riots across the nation as blacks and whites fought vicious battles in the slums of Georgian urban centers. Many fear that the violence could escalate as the election date nears, though some hope for a strong and democratic future for Georgia. (-1 Stability)

GEORGIAN HIGHWAY COMPLETE. Atlanta, Georgia. A project linking Georgian and Tennessean travel authorities was completed this year as a series of new paved roads connecting the main urban centers of the two countries was completed. This project, compared to the fail Roads and Rails effort in the Republic of Italy, is stated to have modernized transportation within the North American country. The International Highway System is claimed to be a feat of modern engineering, including two great bridges across the Tennessee River near the city of Chattanooga. Overall though, many foreign observers believe that this project has done nothing but drain the Georgian economy, as no real economic benefit has been seen from the effort.

TEXAN CIVIL WAR STOPPED BEFORE STARTED. Dallas, Texan Republic. The disputes of the 1932 elections have at last been resolved as negotiations brought both Conservatives and Liberals back to the peace table. In order to prevent a violent civil war which could have torn the country apart, both sides agreed to new elections being held at the end of this year. As another conciliatory move, the capitol has been moved inland from the coast to the city of Dallas, symbolizing a new fresh start for the Texan people with these elections. Most of the military has been brought back together, but some members of each side chose to opt out of continued military service due to political beliefs. The new elections were monitored not only by both political parties, but by neutral observers from the Empire of Louisiana. The end result was an electoral victory by the Liberal Party, who have promised isolationism and a new order for Texas. They have claimed neutrality to the fighting in Jamaica and have renounced the nation’s claims to the Caribbean island.

TRANSIT PROGRAM COMPLETE IN VIRGINIA. Columbus, Virginian Empire. The Virginian government announced the completion of a long awaited project for the infrastructure development of the mainland of the Virginian Empire. Among these includes new zeppelin ports for easier passenger transportation across the Appalachian Mountains. New railroads have been built along similar routes and modernized up and down the coast, including new electronic “trams” which provide safe and cheap transportation in some of the larger cities. The new tram systems have been lauded by the North American press for their modernity and several other cities have begun their own tram projects.

NEW ENGLAND ANNOUNCES NEW MILITARY RECRUITMENT POLICY. Boston, Republic of New England. Faced with a growing number of threats and enemies abroad, the Republic of New England has been forced to change its military recruitment policies. “Persons of color” are now allowed to join the military from the nation’s various colonies under several important conditions. In order to maintain military discipline, the recruits must be able to speak English so they can receive and understand orders. Furthermore, all recruits must be some variant of Christianity, whether Catholic or Protestant to prevent the spread of heathen ideals into the ranks of the army. (+2 Manpower per turn)

UNSA AT AN END? Richmond, Virginian Empire. The United Nation States of America seem to be at an end this year, as one of its strongest members abandons the ranks. The Republic of New England has left the UNSA and the related East Atlantic Customs Union this year following the rise of tensions between them and other factions. The debate over the Canadian Civil War proved to be the final straw and many feel that the alliance may soon be over. The nation of Cuba has also announced the end of its membership in the organization, pledging to follow along with the New Englanders who aided them in the recently concluded civil war on their own island. A new Texan regime may also break paths with the alliance, or the ambitious Haitian empire may do so as well.

ELECTIONS POSTPONED IN GUATEMALA. Guatemala City, Guatemala. The Guatemalan president has announced the postponement of further executive elections or even legislative ones this year. The old standing of martial law continues to remain in place, preventing the rise of any opposition parties. Members of the opposition in Congress have been arrested by local police forces, halting anti-government rhetoric. Newspapers which have backed the opposition have also been shut down for causing unrest and spreading “treasonous ideals” across the nation. Several riots have taken place as a result of the election announcement, as the people call for a change in government. (-2 Stability)

CUBAN CIVIL WAR ENDS. Havana, Cuba. The civil strife in Cuba ended this year with the intervention of the army of the Republic of New England. Fighting in the year continued on the main front as the forces of Castro pushed west against the government of former leader Pierre. Heavy fighting was the way of the day until Cuban and New Englander forces launched an offensive against Havana and the center of the opposition’s leadership. New Englander marines, backed by infantry and jungle specialists, were supported by Cuban forces in a landing around Havana. The Cuban navy was quickly seized by the advancing forces and Acturo Pierre was forced to recognize the new nationalist regime of Angel Castro. An immediate end to hostilities was declared on the front lines, as the supporters of the Pierre government laid down their arms. Some have been granted amnesty to serve in the Cuban military once more, particularly sailors and other naval personnel. The support of New England in the conflict has led to the new Cuban government breaking away from the UNSA and declaring its steadfast support for “our good and true allies in the north.”
Casualty List
Pierre Cuba: Destroyed
New England: 1 Infantry Brigade
Nationalist Cuba: 8 Infantry Brigades

NEW ENGLAND SUFFERS MAJOR NAVAL DEFEAT. San Juan, Republic of New England. The Republic of New England suffered its first major naval defeat in the history of the republic this year off the coast of Jamaica. After a successful operation against the Pierre government in Cuba, part of the New Englander navy, as well as a small force of Cuban ships, were deployed to wrest control of Jamaica away from the standing communist regime. While preparing the beaches for landing, the New Englander fleet’s submarine screening forces were swept aside by an advancing onslaught of communist ships. From the west came the Caribbean Fleet of the United Collectives of North America, while trapping the New Englanders in the east, came the bulk of the navy of the Socialist Union of South America. The New Englanders, caught in a textbook trap, fought a stand up engagement, and after the sinking of two capital ships, ordered a breakthrough against the SUSA fleet. The SUSA ships were quickly devastated by coordinated fire and the few that remained fled from the field. In order to preserve the transports and ground forces for the invasion of Jamaica, the flagship of the fleet stayed behind with another, small battleship to hold back the UCNA forces. Though the smaller battleship was sunk, the crews fought on, firing cannon even as the ship sunk beneath the waves. The flagship held four UCNA battleships at bay until the transports were safely away, then managed, despite massive damage, to escape to safe harbor in Puerto Rico, outrunning and escaping out of the range of the communist ships. Still, five New Englander capital ships were sent to the bottom of the Caribbean as well as a large amount of support vessels. Only the fleet’s flagship and a few escorts managed to escape. This has been marked as another sign of an erupting war between the Republic of New England and the International Socialist Cooperative Group.
Casualty List
New England: 6 MR Submarines, 9 Destroyers, 5 Light Cruisers, 4 Heavy Cruisers, 5 Victory-class Battleships
Cuba: 2 Destroyers, 1 Light Cruiser
UCNA: 9 Destroyers, 2 Light Cruisers, 1 Heavy Cruiser, 1 Dreadnought, 3 Atlantic-class Battleships
SUSA: 12 Destroyers, 6 Light Cruisers, 3 Heavy Cruisers, 1 Atlantic-class Battleship

ISCG MOVES TROOPS INTO JAMAICA. Kingston, People’s Republic of Jamaica. Following New England’s grave defeat at the Battle of Kingston, the International Socialist Cooperative Group extended official recognition to the communist government of Jamaica. This was followed with the deployment of a multitude of ground forces onto the island in order to “protect our comrades against all possible aggressors.” Grand displays have been made of fresh artillery fortifications and other strong works of the forces brought in, some having been deployed from as far south as the Socialist Union of South America. A massive pouring in of economic aid from across the Socialist Cooperative Group has arrived into Jamaica, helping to reestablish the nation’s welfare and economy after years of confusion and unrest. New naval vessels have been given to the Jamaican government from the United Collectives in the hopes of further advancing the security of the island against foreign invasion.

SUSA SHOWS OFF NEW BOMBERS. Rio de Janeiro, Socialist Union of South America. The Socialist Union of South America released several very public films of the new AFB-01 “Devastator” Heavy Bomber. This new plane is stated to be the greatest flying weapon of war ever devised, modeled off of previous Russian designs and images of the Russian weapon of war, the S-20 Bomber. The AFB-01 boasts a greater payload than that of the Russian design and many say the potential for devastation is even greater than before. Films have been released of this plane’s destructive new power from prototype tests against alleged Paraguayan forts in the ongoing war in the south. Almost all films currently being displayed in Cinema Theaters across South America now display footage of this new craft.

ARGENTINA CALLS FOR TOTAL WAR AGAINST PARAGUAY. Urquizaville, Argentine Collectives Federation. The communist leader of Argentina, Emilo Estevez has made a tour of the country this year, calling for total war and mobilization against the right-wing dictatorship of Paraguay. The nation has scheduled major military production drives for vehicles and munitions to aid Argentina’s armies in the field. Chairman Estevez has asked the full support of his nation’s people for the objective of liberating the oppressed people of Bolivia and Paraguay from their mad tyrant.

WAR IN PARAGUAY. Asuncion, Paraguay. Fighting in Paraguay continues to escalate as the International Socialist Cooperative Group floods more and more troops into the small country. Efforts to secure the Parana River have taken a nasty turn as the Paraguayans block off the river using scuttled destroyers, after once more hitting Argentine naval bases in a major raid. In the south, the Argentines launched a massive tank offensive against the Paraguayans, which resulted in absolute disaster, following an ineffective, though massive, artillery barrage. Over half of the tanks deployed were destroyed by well dug in Paraguayan forces, and many others were considered irreparable and scavenged for parts. Heavy fighting in Asuncion resulted in the largest death toll being for the Argentines, who still have yet to secure control of the Paraguayan capitol city. In the north, the Chilean advance has come to a halt, with very limited skirmishing taking place. Further east, the Socialist Union of South America has launched an even larger offensive, using so many troops, they’ve wound up only getting in their own way during the moves. Through sheer numbers they’ve overrun the first two lines of Paraguayan fortresses, but once more find themselves bogged down.
Casualty List
Paraguay: 38 Infantry Brigades, 2 Artillery Brigades, 7 Destroyers
Argentine Collectives Federation: 34 Infantry Brigades, 7 Tank Brigades, 2 Destroyers
Socialist Union of South America: 41 Infantry Brigades, 2 Tank Brigades
Chile: 3 Infantry Brigades
United Collectives of North America: 1 Infantry Brigade

NEW BOOK IN DISPUTE IN ISCG. Buenos Aires, Argentine Collectives Federation. A new book called, The Coming Rift, has turned Communist Party politicians throughout parts of the International Socialist Cooperative Group into a feuding rabble. This work, written and published by a noted communist thinker, has made striking claims for future socialist policies as a bloc of nations. The writer calls for an alliance with the bourgeoisie nations of the United Nation States of America and the European Alliance of Nations to defeat the true evil of the Co-Axial Pact. He states that the Co-Axial Pact is the greater of evils and must be destroyed if true socialism is to be achieved globally. The Argentine government has denounced the book and its authors but have taken no public move of censure against him.

FIGHTING CONTINUES IN SUGAR ISLANDS. Port-au-Prince, Empire of Haiti. The Haitian empire has reported ongoing bloodshed throughout the sugar islands of the empire as the Cross of Fire continues to fight against the imperial forces. As before, casualties remain in relatively low levels, considering the low populations of the region, but the effects are beginning to be seen. Sugar plantations, the lifeblood of the islands, have begun to fall prey to both imperial soldiers and the French guerillas. Several of the large plantations have been burned to the ground in the course of combat and the sugar economy is beginning to be shaken up by the fighting.

REFUGEES BEGIN RETURN TO BOLIVIA. Sucre, Chilean occupied Bolivia. With the support of the International Red Cross and the governments of the Socialist Union of South America and Chile, the people of Bolivia have begun to return home. They are leaving refugee camps in northern Chile, hoping to restart their lives from before the rise of the tyrannical Salazar regime in Paraguay. They appreciate the help that has been given so far, but many still wonder about the fate of their nation. Some hope that a new independent Bolivian state will be established, while others wish to join the Socialist Union of South America in unification. As the war in Paraguay starts to come to a conclusion, the question of Bolivia has yet to be answered to the public.

NEW FIGHTING IN SOUTH AMERICA? Abancay, Peru. As tensions escalate between the Republic of New England and the International Socialist Cooperative Group, troops have been mobilized to the far southern reaches of imperial New England. The protectorate nation of Peru and the government of Chile have confirmed several bloody skirmishes along the mutual border of these countries. The bloodshed has been limited to several pitched battles between infantry brigades, but the fighting briefly escalated until both local commanders agreed to a temporary ceasefire. At this time it is unknown whether the conflict between New England and the socialists will break out into a larger war in this region. (-2 Infantry Brigades to Chile and Peru)

MILITARY COUP IN PERU. Lima, Peru. The growing threat of war within South America has led elements of the military within Peru to believe that the Castro regime is incapable of dealing with the scourge of capitalism. A coup was launched into Lima against the government, smashing opposition and loyalist forces. A new military government has been established, under right-wing leader Barquedano. He has pledged to keep the full backing of Peru behind the Republic of New England in any efforts made against the International Socialist Cooperative Group. (-1 Infantry Brigade, -1 Stability)

DANISH ELECTIONS. Copenhagen, Danish Empire. With many fears of the collapse of the empire, the people of Denmark have spoken out towards action against the concerns. This has seen the downfall of the Konservatives, who have been seen as far too weak on the colonials, particularly with the successful independence bill of Iceland. Actions punishing Iceland were seen as too little and too late for any meaningful signs of empire. The reactionary party, the Dansk National Arbejderparti, has achieved victory in this year’s elections, promising to hold Nijeria at any cost. These counters resulted in a very ugly election, as polls resulted in the victory of the Portuguese Liberal Party. (-3 Stability)

SWEDISH ELECTIONS. Stockholm, Swedish Empire. Swedish elections this year turned out interesting results, as a surprising new force has risen up in the empire. The elections proceeded as normal, but several seats have been won out in Norway by the Norwegian National Movement, a nationalist organization. The NNM has called for the end of the Union of Sweden and Norway as it has been since 1814, and a new constitution and nation of their own. They have cited the success of the Icelander movement as just cause for their own freedom as a country. INDEPENDENCE FOR ICELAND. Rekjavik, Iceland. The Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn have at last achieved their long awaited goal of independence from the Danish Empire. After several hundred years of Danish rule, the hopes for Icelandic freedom have been fulfilled. Despite attempts to negotiate with the Danish government, however, bitterness now lingers between the two nations. The Danish government demanded payment for their aid over the years, which many view as mere exploitation of the island. After refusal with the passing of the new bill for freedom, the Danes dismantled the island’s gubernatorial headquarters and demolished the region’s military bases. Most outrageous though was the destruction of several major bridges throughout the island, and the populace has quickly rallied behind though denouncing the former friends in Denmark. Most have called for alignment with France or another major power as a response to the hostility of the Danes.

This invention is a new development which helps gives infantrymen better firepower in the field. The new weapons have entered into mass production within the German Republic, but copy-cat designs have found their way into arms factories throughout the world. Factories within France, Russia, and Virginia have begun churning out submachine guns of their own, promising new tactics for warfare. Of course, none seem to compare to the usage within the German army at this time and they have begun adapting their tactics to these new devices. (+1 Army Quality for Germany)

A NEW PIRACY EMERGING? Palermo, Republic of Italy. Port authorities in Italy have announced the discovery of the ruined hulks of several merchant vessels across the Mediterranean Sea. The ships are believed to have been robbed, then burned, by an unknown group of marauders. Radio or wireless signals were not detected by any of the craft, and some fear a new gang of pirates may be active in the region. Some calls have been made for an international conference of nations along the Mediterranean to track down these thugs and murderers in the hopes of justice. The nations to be considered for such a conference are France, Italy, Tunisia, Greece, Serbia, The Turkish Sultanate, Egypt, Palestine, the Russian Federation, and Syria. Many hope that a conference will be called to help settle issues of the ancient highway of commerce.

These people hope that the new pro-imperial government within Denmark will heed their cries and crack down upon the uppity natives.

FIGHTING IN NOVA BRAZIL. Porto Pedro, Nova Brazil. The fighting between the Haitian and Imperial Brazilian army reached a greater pitch this year as imperial forces launched a heated counterattack. The great stretch of logistics has made it ever harder for the increasing Haitian army to supply its forces and the Brazilians have managed to regain control of Porto Pedro from the invading army, splitting them into two pockets along the coast. The Haitian navy has managed to continue holding the pockets together, but thus far they have been unable to advance against the new Brazilian lines, even as their fancy new weapons and equipment are deployed into the field.
Casualty List
Haiti: 8 Infantry Brigades, 1 Marine Brigade, 5 Jungle Brigades, 4 Faustin Brigades
Nova Brazil: 11 Infantry Brigades, 4 Cavalry Brigades

A NEW REGIME FOR PERSIA. Tehran, Persia. The death of Araf Hemmati this year has left a power gap in the nation of Persia, with no appointed successor or heir to control of the government. A hastily assembled coalition has attempted to locate the Shah to no avail. It seems that he must have passed away in exile following his treason with the Virginian Empire and Russia. The government coalition continues to manage the country but the problem of disorganization continues to mount, particularly as hostile regimes within the country’s neighbors begin to mobilize to the border to prevent the threat of a revival of a Persian empire. VIOLENCE IN ALGERIA. Algiers, French Empire. Fighting has been reported on the outskirts of the Sahara as French outposts have been overrun by unknown forces. Believed to be Tuareg bandits among other tribal groups, French troops have come under attack throughout southern Algeria and the northern Saharan region. Villages and towns have also been raided by these pillagers, as the fighting is believed to be escalating and French business falls under threat of attack. The French Trans-African Corporation has called for immediate deployment of stronger military forces to the region to restore order. Some investigation has even suggested that Tunisia may be the home base for these bandits and outcry has called for French intervention or investigation into the African nation to determine the truth behind these claims. BUILDUP IN ARABIA RAISES UNREST. Riyadh, Rashid Arabia. This year a major military build up by the Rashid family has been viewed as a growing attempt to centralize power in the nation in Riyadh. Other families have disputed this move, but a major crackdown has been instituted across the country. Several family leaders have been executed by the government and their assets seized. The Rashids have claimed that foreign interests may be attempting to undermine the integrity of the Arabian state and have pledged that this build up is more focused to protect against imperialism than to fight domestic foes.

ECONOMIC BOOM BRINGS HOPE. Chengdu, Republic of China. The rise of the use of the new radio theaters across China and the expansion of that network has led to a dramatic increase of productivity and development within the Republic. Though domestic issues remained uncertain throughout the year, thanks to various troubles, the Chinese economy has shown a hopeful growth. This is amid a overall global recession which seems to have almost stagnated even the powerhouse Russian imperial economy. Booming new modern industrial centers have begun to emerge thanks to funding aid from the government in one or two places and many believe this is the first breath of a new China emerging from the ashes of the civil war.

BALUCH ELECTIONS. Zahedan, Baluchestan. Elections this year within the formerly Persian nation of Baluchestan were once again considered by many to be “business as usual.” The nation’s Conservative Party has proven to be a strong source of leadership for Baluchestan over the past eight years. The government has kept true its pledge to maintain the country’s security against foreign threats. With the changes in the Persian government over the past year, many are unsure of the nation’s role in the new order in the Near East.

FIGHTING ERUPTS IN AFGHANISTAN. Kabul, Afghanistan. Tribal fighting has erupted into full scale conflict throughout the Asian nation of Afghanistan this year. Various factions have emerged as casualties continue to mount and the various groups struggle for dominance. Sher Khan, the nation’s titular leader has refused to take sides in the erupting violence. His own forces have been deployed to maintain security within Kabul and other various large urban centers of the nation. The warlord factions have agreed to continue to recognize him as their theoretical leader as the violence grows. (-7 Infantry Brigades)

CULTIST RALLIES SUPPORT IN SOUTHERN CHINA. Ghangzhou, Republic of China. With the rise of the radio as an important means of communication in the Republic of China, this mode of information has been taken over in the southern part of the country. An anonymous person has spoken to the people of the former Guangxi nation, broadcasting over government approved news. He has called for a return to simpler times and development for the Chinese people, denouncing the government and this move has caused no end of problems in the south. His calls for a nearly communal system of management of the Chinese nations have angered the government, who have launched endless searches for this maverick personality. The leader has called for Chinese to assemble arms in preparation for the “Great Day of Liberation” when the Chinese people will be called upon to make themselves “truly free of the great woe of government.” (-2 Stability)

ELECTIONS IN CHINA. Lanzhou, Republic of China. The death of Dong Feng Rong has led to the KMT calling for immediate and emergency elections in the Republic of China. Several able candidates were put forward, as new rallies were held to connect the government to the average Chinese people. Election debates were held live over the air waves and broadcast to every corner of the Chinese nation, hoping to provide better information to the average person. The Shanxi candidate and self-proclaimed heir to Feng Rong, Xue Yue has been elected to be the new president of China. An admirer of France and Italy, he has vowed to create a strong and unified Chinese identity and nationhood.

AMERICAN CUP RENEWED. Richmond, Virginian Empire. Despite the canceling of the 1933 American Cup, a new year has dawned and amid the rising violence, football continues. Though the New Englander withdrawal from the East Atlantic Customs Union and United Nation States has sparked growing international tensions, their teams continue to partake in the games. The final game was disputed as the New Englander team from Boston was met with such fervent violence from crowds, that they were forced to call off the initial game. Following the effective forfeiting of the game by the New Englanders, the American Cup lacks a true winner, though the Richmond Football Club claims that they are victors by default.

EUROPEAN CUP. Cologne, German Republic. This year’s European Cup was business as usual as once again the Paris Football Club dominates all opposing teams. They met the Cologne Football Club in a highly anticipated game on their home turf in Germany. The French team came home in triumph after walloping the Cologne team in one of the most heated games. The game was marked by having the highest amount of recorded fouls in the history of football, and several players wound up being banned from the field. The end of the game sparked a riot among the German side of the bleachers, spreading into the French side. Over a dozen people were put into critical condition by the riots, one has died as a result. The end score resulted in three to two in favor of the Paris Football Club.

@Circuit: I’d recommend Argentine Battle Vehicle over Argentine Blitz Vehicle, because at the moment “blitz” does not exactly have the same connotations it may have to you in our timeline.

@Those concerned: If you want to know your military’s positioning, I’d highly recommend including such information in your next orders. I do not keep track of your predessecor’s information, and if you want me to keep track of yours, you best make mention of it.

@HMS Vanguard: I apologize about your plans, but simple fact is I can’t imagine anyone wanting the Shah back in this timeline. He was a very bad boy, attempting to enslave the nation to Russia and Virginia. He’s probably quite dead somewhere. I’d be more specific, but it’s 5 AM. We can talk more on it later, but I’ve left you a open door for reform at this point.

OOC: A most glorious update. The Workers Navy continues its proud tradition of success. :)

IC: To: New England

Your foolish attempts to continue the oppression of the Jamaican people have failed. Your fleet sits at the bottom of the Caribbean and your admirals have been handed their first defeat in their history. The time has come for New England to realize it has no claim or chance at taking Jamaica. Any further attempts to seize the island will be met with the same outcome as this year.

We shall see

You all should have left Jamaica to me. I would have killed the people and prevented this whole thing long ago.

OOC: I should have held fake elections long ago but no, democracy must be fair and equal. I miss the days of Absolutism, and Divine Rights of the King. And now for diplomacy-

We are denouncing your attempts to spread your influence into the Caribbean. You have turned the Caribbean from being rather peaceful, to a now hostile battlefield. Both of your puppet dictators now create an obstacle in any hope of trading and prosperity for the nations of the Caribbean.

Greece offers to hold the conference in Athens

To ensure our brethren in Quebec are protected, we are willing to offer military aid in the mode of your choosing at the next best available opportunity.

For the sake of expediting a response to this nuisance, Tunisia seconds the motion to hold the conference in Athens. Tunisia will send representatives to attend, although any and all decisions regarding actions to be taken by the government of Tunisia will be left wholly to the discretion of the President.

Great Update! Things are truly getting exciting.

We demand that you immediately apologize to the Chilean people for your unprovoked attacks on them. You create enough tensions in the area with your relations with New England. Do not further provoke us into taking more direct action

To: Paraguay
From: SUSA

By now you have seen films demonstrating the power of our bombers. We truly do not wish to use the power of them against you, we have better targets for them. Our existing peace offer still stands. Plus we will sweeten the deal by allowing your government and military officials to leave Paraguay and live in exile outside of Paraguay.

Be warned that if you reject our peace treaty, Paraguay will experience terror unlike that which has never been seen before.

To: Socialist Union of South America

We believe that it is in fact Chile who should apologize. Our forces were merely defending themselves against perceived socialist aggression.

Syria, Italy, and Palestine all agree to attend the conference on the growth of a new piracy in the Mediteranean.
