THE SOCIALIST INTERNATIONAL. Rio de Janeiro, Socialist Union of South America. Representatives from over two dozen nations met this year in Brazil to debate issues and differences among international socialist movements. This meeting has tackled only some of the more minor details of socialism, and socialist movements have pledged to work together for a limited few goals. Among these are increased women’s rights in the workplace and social sphere, an international workers’ holiday, and 8-hour workdays in industrialized nations. These points, while not revolutionary, are decidedly socialist. Some representatives expressed discontent that issues like violent revolution vs. political drives were not discussed, but it was promised that the Second Socialist International will discuss more challenging issues.
THE ANTI-SOCIALIST INTERNATIONAL. Cologne, German Empire. Representatives from several American nations and the German Empire met this year in Cologne to discuss coordinated responses to leftist successes in the Americas. Chief among concerns were the foundation of the Socialist Union of South America and the left’s success against the imperial government in Mexico. Because of the ambiguity of the discussion, not much constructive efforts were made here, just an agreement of the evil of socialism and communism.
North American News Report
OIL BOOM IN TEXAS. Houston, Texan Republic. As cheap automobiles become big business in North America and Europe, a demand has arose for more fuel for these vehicles. Texas, well known for its early charted sources of oil reserves, has become the prime exporter of the global oil supply. Refineries and the other manufactures of the petroleum industry have expanded the Texan economy. This oil boom has set off a demand for other global oil sources, and nationalist corporations across the globe have begun searching for black gold within their borders. (+2 EP for Texas)
CHICAGO ELECTIONS. Chicago, Free City of Chicago. This year’s elections maintained rather calm attitudes compared to those of other nations. Only the Socialist Party offered any dramatic changes in Chicagoan policy, but they were heartily rejected by voters. The Conservative Party has managed to retain control over both the Congress and presidency without much issue. (+1 Stability)
IROQUOIS ELECTIONS. Mohawk, Iroquois. As the war in Mexico winds down, the Iroquois nation has demobilized its military and brought the soldiers home. This has led to whirlwind support for the dominant Liberal Party, which has pledged to improve ties with the leftist Mexican government. The Liberals used this support to sweep this year’s elections and establish control over the nation. (+2 Stability)
NEW KING OF TENNESSEE. Nashville, Kingdom of Tennessee. The quiet nation of Tennessee suffered a tragic loss this year, when the old King James II finally passed away. His son, Edward, has been brought to the throne, and many wonder of his motives and ideals for the Tennessee nation. The new King Edward is a mysterious figure to most of the nation and no one is quite sure of the route he’ll take. This fear was compounded by protests and riots held by the nation’s black population, including a minor slave rebellion, which was promptly quelled by local militia. White agitation has also increased with the establishment of the Tennessee branch of the Ku Klux Klan, which has vowed to overthrow the monarchy in favor of a new order. (-2 Stability)
NEW ENGLAND ELECTIONS. Boston, Republic of New England. This year’s elections in New England were hotly contested between the conservatives and liberals, and accusations have been made of fraud over the outcome. President Mander has been accused of redrawing boundary lines in the counties taken from Quebec to help the Conservative Party retain dominance over Congress as well as winning the Presidency. The Liberal supporters have staged major protests over this event and have taken to the streets in their outrage. Police were deployed, but no violence ensued. (-2 Stability)
SEMINOLE ELECTIONS. Osceola, Seminole Republic. The newly freed Seminole Republic held their first elections this year in a highly contested race. The Liberal Party emerged victorious, and have been recognized as the victors by the other competing parties. The easy transition into republic has been met with sighs of relief, promising this nation surprising stability. (+3 Stability)
COUP ATTEMPT FAILS IN FLORIDA. St. Augustine, Florida. As tensions rise on nearly all the borders of this nation, a section of the Floridian military made a bid for power. Lacking significant or overwhelming support from the populace or army, and the Cuban military presence significantly aided the Graham government in quelling the uprising. This has allowed the Florida government to dramatically reorganize the military and regain the loyalty of the men in arms. (+2 Stability)
MEXICAN CIVIL WAR. Mexico City, Mexico. The war in Mexico has taken a definitive turn in favor of the leftist forces, as Mexico City fell after a brutal battle south of the city. A massive struggle between the defending forces and nearly a million leftist soldiers led to a victory through overwhelming numbers. Casualties in the fight were horrendous, devastating the city and surrounding countryside. Nonetheless, the fall of the city seemed to break the spirit of southern imperialist forces, who routed as the advance continued. In the north, the imperialists continued their successes, managing to bypass stronghold and positions the leftists attempted to establish. They continued their push into southern California, while they established strong positions against a major leftist counterattack from western Texas. Despite this, the fighting has devolved into stalemate as reinforcements have been sent south to bolster that failing front. Both regimes in Mexico have also at last recognized Chile’s claims on Mexican Polynesia and Easter Island, turning the islands over to their control. Texas has withdraw their claims under pressure from both Mexican governments as well as the Gulf Alliance.

Central/South American News Report
BOLIVIA REFORMED. Sucre, Bolivia. Under German supervision, a new Bolivian regime has been established under the infamous “Butcher of the East,” Marquez Santiago. He is known for his pro-German views and fervent hate for leftists. Through brutal force and German backing, he has reestablished the Bolivian government and restored order in the wake of Chilean and Paraguayan departure.
NEW SOCIALIST STATE ESTABLISHED. Rio de Janeiro, Socialist Union of South America. After two years of preparation, the states of Brazil, Rio Grande du Sol, Pernambuco, and Uruguay have unified as a single socialist state. The new nation maintains significant degrees of independence and autonomy within the provinces, but acts as a single military entity as well as gearing itself towards similar domestic programs. Elections have been maintained on the lower levels of society, with each region determining their own methods and actions.
COLOMBIA INVADED. Bogota, Colombia. Virginian military forces, claiming to be moving in to prevent the spread of socialism, have launched a full scale invasion of Colombia. They have seized the northern coast and caused dramatic reform, as former Colombian landowners disappear to have their land seized by Virginians. The Virginians have succeeded in uniting Colombia’s various factions under the military government, which has pledged to fight until the end to preserve the nation’s independence. Major defensive positions have been established along the few navigable routes through the country, and fortifications have been emplaced wherever possible to halt Virginian advances. The few attempts by Virginia to advance further into the country have met only with disaster. The Colombians managed to make some local counteroffensives, succeeding through sheer numbers and overwhelming force.

European News Report
CELTIC UNION ELECTIONS. Dublin, Celtic Union. The war against the English and Germans remained predominant on the minds of Celtic voters this year. The Liberal Party swept the elections, denouncing the Conservatives, and claiming that it would subtract from the war effort should there be a regime change in the country. The Liberals have promised to maintain Celtic independence, even in the face of the might of the North Sea Alliance. (+2 Stability)
BERLIN ALLIANCE DEFUNCT. Berlin, German Empire. The creation of the United Nation States of America and the rise of tensions between the Netherlands and Germany has marked the end of the Berlin Alliance. In response, Germany has rallied some of the former members in a new organization. Denmark, Sweden, and England have all agreed to join in the new North Sea Alliance. Germany and Hungary have also signed a separate alliance agreement, securing German power in central Europe.
DANES ANNOUNCE NEW AWARD. Copenhagen, Danish Empire. In order to recognize the achievements of the world’s greatest innovators, the Danes have created the new Malling-Hansen Prize. This award is to recognize annual outstanding achievements in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature, Peace, and Mathematics. A German diplomat won the award this year for negotiating a new order in Bolivia, but the scientific fields were swept by Canadian and Russian scientists. Literature went to a novelist in England based on the horrors of war, particularly in the Great War and the ongoing conflict against the Celts.
ANGLO-CELTIC WAR. London, England. Fighting in the British Islands continued at a low pitch this year as neither side made any major aggressive moves on the Scottish Front. The Celtic Union has instituted food rationing in Ireland, beginning a revitalization of the potato crop to stave off famine. However, arms and supplies continue to flow to the front in Scotland, and forces have been raised locally to fight the English. English attempts to locate the Celtic navy have proved fruitless, as they seem to have disappeared into thin air. Only limited fighting has taken place between the two sides’ trenches, though some believe that full hostilities could begin again next year.

TROUBLE IN PERSIA. Tehran, Persia. The Persian government made a highly disputed decision this year with the signing of entry into the Russian Imperial Protectorate. Done unilaterally by the Persian monarch, the military and public were outraged when word hit the streets. The thought of “being enslaved” by imperialists angered much of the Persian populace. Detracting from the war effort, forces were brought back from the Ottoman front, deposing of the monarch, who they believed clearly lost his grip on sanity. With the support of intellectuals, the military agreed to an establishment of a republican coalition until the conclusion of the war against the Ottomans. (-3 Stability)
SUEZ WAR. Ankara, Ottoman Empire. Fighting escalated this year within the Ottoman Empire as coalition forces launched renewed attacks on nearly all fronts. The entry of Greece into the coalition has brought about invasion from the west, as Greek troops landed with Dutch naval gunfire support. They managed to gain a decent beachhead, but superior Ottoman artillery and defensive positions on the rough terrain have led to heavy casualties. The Greeks have been pinned down and unable to advance any further. Further south, Dutch forces made a landing in Palestine. The Ottomans were well prepared for this invasion, keeping heavy artillery poised on all beaches. Heavy casualties were inflicted upon the landings, only being successful when the Ottomans ran low on ammunition. The arrival of Ottoman reserves sealed the fate of the amphibious assault, forcing them to flee back to Cyprus. As the confusion over the attack reigned, the Dutch and Virginian forces crossed the wreckage of the Suez Canal and assaulted Ottoman lines. Larger numbers and the better quality of the coalition forces assured their victory, and the Ottomans found themselves pushed back once more until the arrival of the Free Egypt Army brought the advance to a standstill. The Ottomans managed to bring in fresh troops, halting the coalition on a drive for Jerusalem. Jerusalem continues to be held by the Ottomans, and heavy casualties have been had in desperate and futile attempts to storm Ottoman trenches and fortifications. In the east, as Persia experiences inner turmoil, the numbers of the Persian army have been the only redeeming factor. Though the Ottomans managed to retake Baghdad early in the year, further advances were forestalled by Persian numbers, even as some troops were brought home to “deal with” the monarch.

YUNNAN WARLORD MAINTAINS HIS HOLD. Kunming, Yunnan. A cabal of military officers within the army of the Yunnan warlord attempted to seize power in favor of the Republic of China this year. They found themselves outnumbered and suppressed after a vicious battle for the capital. The Yunnan warlord has maintained his power over the region and has vowed to continue the “fight against runaway liberalism and Europeanism.” (+1 Stability, -6 Infantry Brigades)
FIGHTING IN CHINA. Zhengzhou, Chinese Empire. Some fighting has ended in China, after years of conflict. The warlords of Guangxi and Yunnan have at last agreed to a resolution, and Guangxi ceded some lands to the Yunnan warlord in exchange for a peace. Yunnan has used this chance to turn its full weight against the Republican army, which it claims to be “European supporters.” The imperial government and Korea have remained quiet this year, choosing instead to build defensive lines and hold the territory they currently possess. This allowed the republicans to hold together their forces and push hard against Yunnan. Fighting in the region proved brutal and more or less inconclusive, the republicans taking only token territory from the warlord. The warlord of Shanxi, after extensive negotiation has also pledged his support to the Republic of China, being granted local controls in exchange for alliance against Yunnan and the Koreans.

SWEDISH IMPERIAL PROTECTORATE ESTABLISHED. Stockholm, Swedish Empire. The seizure of the Mexican Pacific has assured Sweden a spot once more in the upper spots of imperial global power. In response to international pressure, however, the Swedes have agreed to recognize the independence of both Alaska and Hawaii, as within the newly created Swedish Imperial Protectorate. In order to rule the two new nations, willing monarchs have been found to act as the executers of Swedish will in both countries. For Alaska, one of the Swedish king’s sons has been implanted upon the newly created throne of Alaska. In Hawaii, a descendant of the old royal Hawaiian line has been found and declared the new king of Hawaii. Both nations owe their loyalty to Sweden, and Swedish troops remain in both regions to maintain order and stability.

@flyingchicken, things like forts and railroads don’t require manpower, nor would thye help in the production of said things, EP only has been spent on that. Also, it represents only people who can serve in the military, not the entire country’s population or usable labor force.

@Stormbringer: because of the issues and construction that the unification of four nations requires (even on decentralized terms) all money from all three nations was focused on that, and no spending has taken place on anything else. As a side note, thanks for getting rid of three NPCs, making updating easier.
A lot of you need to get your stories straight on who’s giving money and tech to who. There’s obviously confusion going on. My recommendation is as follows for those who don’t do this already: don’t assume you’re getting money from people who claim that they have. Set up contingencies or say, “all money coming from other countries goes to _______”
@Matt0088: Because of the nature of the reconciliation project, it doesn’t really fit as a project to be listed in stats. Instead, just include 1 EP for it for a long while (maybe 30 years or so). That’d be the way to achieve goals
Because of the status of the Mexican Empire in turmoil, their imperial protectorate has been disbanded. For those who were in it, stability is now full cost, though you paid protectorate costs this year.
