A Brave New World Part 3

Dog-pile!

Persia changed its mind and Arabia didn't commit actual resources. Thanks for once again reminding us of Nijeria though... and... Peru? Thank you! (Guess I might want to doublecheck that but you've been confusingly honest so far.)
...

To the Sunda Republic from NH
Very well. Let it not be said that the Dutch are not soft to those who speak their language. We hope you will at least consider at some point to hold a plebiscite on whether your populace wishes to join us in return for our armed forces saving your lives and the continued generosity of our citizens as guided by the beacon that is our democracy. At least you will hold such a plebiscite if you are as cultured as the language you speak, but we will not force you. We look forward to following your democratic process at arm's length and organizing an international aid effort to help sustain and construct your nation on your own terms.
The Dutch nation of NH hereby guarantees the independence of the Sunda Republic.

Nijeria reminds New Holland that we had far too many problems of our own to go around supporting Pancasila. We never did anything of the sort to abet these mad devil-worshipping lunatics.

They're just saying that because they're getting bombed. Look man improve your morale. That's the key. Bombings will continue until morale improves. France wants to see a smile on your people's faces!

Anyway I'll respond to diplo and such when I figure out what my new character should be.

To South Africa from New Holland

According to Pancasilan diplomats last year you supported their nation despite their genocidal intent against nine million innocent civilians. Why then should the world care when you at least provoked your merciless aggressors?

Saying one supports a regime's claim to sovereignty while it is being mercilessly assaulted from the sky is far removed from providing any form of military assistance.

Besides.. We never condoned the genocides. We ourselves allowed in refugees from Pancasilla.

We simply stated the regime deserved to maintain its right to rule.

Of course, if it continued such atrocities into peace-time, we would begin considering appropriate measures.

Yet France refused this view, as it would hinder their crusade for global influence, and they responded by strafing us, too, from the air and sea..

Knowing full well that South Africa is not a member of the Red Cross and cannot expect its civilian population to receive any support from there.

When a Red Cross nation treats non-combatant lives with such disregard, how can one condone their actions?

Tell me, honestly, is saying the world is large enough for one more nation really a crime worthy of punishment on such a scale?

OOC: EQ, will military units that have been downgraded this turn return to their old level once military quality is brought back up, or will we be required to pay the upgrading cost?

To: Egypt
From: Arabistan

We in Arabistan are greatly saddened by the aggressive actions of Egypt towards Syria, which were completely unprovoked. We ask that all Egyptian troops are withdrawn from Syria and that elections are held to determine the new leader of the country.

To: Iraq
From: Arabistan

Once again, we seek to improve relations with our brothers in Iraq, who we helped free from foreign rule. We suggest increased trade between our two nations.

@Agent 89, these units will have to be upgraded separately. Once again though, this should be a fairly rare occurance. If you'd like a comparison, it would theoretically happen only three times during OTL 1980-2010.

@Abbadon: I do know the costs of the project. Rest assured you aren't just throwing it away, probably.

We simply stated the regime deserved to maintain its right to rule.

The Dutch apologize for having been taken in by the former Pancasilan's regime's propaganda of your involvement (though while we respected their integrity as per the peace treaty we have to disagree with you as to their moral right to rule over their own people when victimizing them to the extent of genocide) but regret that in the light of our approval of French actions in SouthEast Asia we are too grateful to criticise them at this point in time. We suggest sueing for peace and reinstating their diplomats. Perhaps the French will be assuaged by a mere 50% influence. The alternative is no doubt 100% influence and perhaps even a holocaust of proportions due to your impressive naval victory, something probably all parties hope to avoid.
Whether your people are more or less important than making a stand for your values this is a time when nations that value freedom or equality have their eyes elsewhere. We implore you to make peace with Megret's diplomats, if there is still time.

We are merely restoring order in their lands. While some of its neighbors are content to see Syria waste away in chaotic civil war, Egypt has stepped in and will be supervising the next elections and preventing any more violent occurrences from upsetting the democratic process. Arabistan need not worry, Egypt's intentions are pure.

OOC: EQ, so I don't suppose you could pretend I mentioned my training going up according to my deal with a certain Great Power? :p

Got my character

To World
From General Muhammad Hamka

It seems clear to us, or at least to me that if there is a God (which I personally doubt), that it has forsaken Pancasilla. But never mind that. More importantly I am General Muhammad Hamka some of you may know me as Great Leader, Mighty Commander, Supreme Ruler, King of Scotland and so forth. HA HA HA HA HA! It's a joke you see. You may laugh now.

The old regime is dead, and upon it's ashes I will create a new Pancasilla. Modern, secular, and prosperous. The Imam's were evil, and cruel men who committed terrible crimes against humanity, and it seems to me that the meteor was a fateful warning against the evils of religion, superstition, ignorance, and bearded men. HA HA HA HA! You may laugh now.

Therefore I pledge that I, General Muhammad Hamka shall create a new Pancasilla, reshaped in my image, and the image of the Western world. We shall toss religion, superstition, and ignorance into the dust bin of history.

I ask the help of the world in doing this, in overcoming the terrible, terrible, damage inflicted upon us. As an orange branch I am willing to offer all the Imam's to stand trial for war crimes, as they so richly deserve. What's that you say? The saying is an olive branch? I prefer orange branch.

Furthermore I request the assistance of the Red Cross, Red Crescent, and nation's both Christian, Muslim, and other in helping rebuild our country devastated by war and famine. Lastly effective immediately, I offer full tolerance to all religious and ethnic minorities as well as the right of return, should they so choose, though understandably if they wish to stay I shall not hold it against them. Our government shall be secular and progressive. The forces of modernity shall be embraced while superstition, ignorance, and religion will be crushed under the boot of progress.

Now, once more I appeal for assistance in rebuilding my country from this terrible war, in particular in addition to food aid, we need assistance restoring infrastructure, housing, roads, railroads, and ports. Our people need jobs lest they turn to extremism once again so I request foreign investment into developing our resources and industry.

I seem to have been talking for quite a long time now, so I will take questions.

ooc: so can I dump all the money I put into raising my infrastructure into an infrastructure project?

In light of this rebirth of aggressive militarism in Georgia, Virginia suggests that our four states sign a formal defensive pact.

From: Tennessee

This is acceptable to us on the grounds that we will not become involved in the conflict with New England.

Don't you have to get destroyed by New England before you worry about Georgia?

We thank you for attempting to take a less belligerent stance against us.

However, I fear handing over half of Congress to the Franks will not be enough to spare us, now they have a "legitimate" reason for wanting our blood.

Besides, even if it were, as the democratically elected leader of my people, I could not condone such an action.

They voted me in to lead South Africa.

I could not betray them by handing over power to French imperialists without a fight.

As much as I may regret it, the French have forced my hand.

Now our men will have to return to our families with their shields or upon them..

Heh.

And here I was naively thinking the Trans-Veld Highway would be the lasting monument to my time in power..

We fully support your new regime and are glad to see Pancasila enter the modern global community disabused of their old notions of division and conflict.

To: South Africa

If you really cared about your people, you would provide them with sensible leadership that does not lead them into war. This whole issue could have been avoided had you just a little foresight.

To: Nijeria
From: France

You are wrong. By waging war with New England on our very doorstep, you threatened French Africa directly. That is the issue at hand - and furthermore your unwillingness to cooperate.

To: World
From: France

There has been a fair deal of discussion regarding French actions in Africa recently. We understand - still do the shadows of the last Great War hang over the world, a tragedy we and no one else want to repeat. It is the desire to avoid the next Great War that is driving us into these operations.

To begin, let us examine, first of all, the issue with South Africa and Nijeria. These nations have proven to be unwilling to work with the French to keep peace in the region. Nijeria has waged war, entering a conflict it does not concern simply to seize property from the Republic of New England. Because Nijeria's relations with Virginia could be described as "strained" at best, it is obvious they acted out of nothing but personal interest. So we intervened in the interest of ensuring peace be restored to the region. Nijeria, however, expelled us from the conversation.

Now, ask yourselves this: why would Nijeria want France's exclusion from peace talks unless it were trying to force the hand of its opponent? Indeed, it is clear what Nijeria really did want: control of Port Henry. If they are willing to seize the land of such powers as New England, where might they stop next? Togo? French Africa?

We did not want to wait to find out - their belligerence is obvious from their behavior. So we decided to neuter the country that it might no longer threaten the lands around it.

The issue is largely the same with South Africa, that simply refuses to speak with us at all. Why would they want to cut us out of the equation if they did not want to pursue illegal activities? We couldn't imagine - so we established a naval blockade to investigate further. Then they attacked us - suddenly and without warning. Hardly the act of any nation but that which craves war and instability.

It may also raise the question of why France believes it is her responsibility to answer these issues. Indeed, should we not mind ourselves? It is worth considering that, sometimes, pre-emptive action is the best way to secure the best peace. This is why we also worked with the coalition to try and protect the masses of Pancasila. Bali is safe because of us, and God himself struck down the city of Medan in recognition of the righteousness of our cause.

Why Africa, then? Simple - it is our responsibility. All great powers have a responsibility to keep the peace in their respective areas. Mexico in the Great West of North America; Italy in the Mediterranean; China in Asia; Russia in the the fringes of her vast territory; even the SUSA in South America. Oh, and, of course, France in Africa. How would it reflect on us if we allowed war to run rampant? We seek to enforce peace, as the leaders of the nations in question have proven themselves incapable of it.

And last, but not least, it has been seen that the nations of South Africa and Nijeria worked with the Pancasilans during their war of genocide. What upstanding nation would support such shameless acts of dishonorable mass-murder? Well, that is an issue you are more than capable of reckoning yourselves, we think.

We act only to keep the peace. We have long done our best to create peaceful situations for the world of tomorrow, and we always look to work with our fellow nations on the world stage rather than act unanimously. Africa, however, is mostly our concern - and so it is our responsibility.

Thank you for your consideration.

Republic of Italy-Bulgarian Border:

“So Sergente Enrico Milano what do you think about them finally letting us in to aid our brothers?” asked Caporale Geordi Kreskas with such enthusiasm his support for the choice was obvious.

‘Well to be honest I do not blame the Republic for investigating before going in. I have a feeling from my cousin in Servizio Segreto that we would have been going in with or without this rebellion, with which I wholeheartedly agree.” replied Sergente Enrico Milano.

They both continued the banter back and forth until Sergente Enrico Milano mentioned something his cousin had said in passing. “…so anyway he said that the reports are they may want to try and remain independent instead of join the Republic.”

“That’s just lunacy. If they had the gall to call themselves Greece we would be insulted. We were also stubborn at first but after the decades we have been a part of the Republic all they have done is help us. I mean they rebuilt Corinth and then some! I heard they spent more than most nations make in an entire year!” While Caporale Geordi Kreskas was talking another soldier of Greek decent came over to put in his two lire.

“If they dare to say they are Greece we will have to shut their mouths! They are merely a few provinces of old Greece. Greece is a part of the Republic and we have been prosperous and given all the rights as full Citizens.” railed Sergente Lysander Rigatos.

“I know what you mean, but still it’s their right after all.” Said Sergente Enrico Milano.

“I doubt it’s the opinion of the common Greek. I bet it is only the opinion of those rebels who think they will be the new elite instead of truly standing up for the Greek people. Rebels always espouse noble ideals but rarely follow through.” Z paused look at the other soldiers to show his belief of this. “I mean look at the Republic’s original rebels formed the Liberal Party. How fast did they lose the faith of the people because they failed to improve the common man like promised? About a decade! I am telling you if you ask the people they will see the great Republic and want to join.” Sergente Lysander Rigatos stared intently at the border nearby, he imagined the future and the good the Republic can do for the people of Greece. And quietly he called his nation the name that was taking over in the hearts of the people, Republic of the Mediterranean.

“Hmm, our shifts done here comes the relief. Let’s go keep talking in a bar eh?” The group smiled and reported to the new watch and then headed off to the local army watering hole to talk about the future.

From Republic of Italy:

To Pancasilla:

We are glad of your change of heart and willingness to move beyond petty squabbles. We support this regime as long as it does not step back into the homicidal and belligerent actions of the past. We are also willing to send over medical professionals to help with the sickness as we have direct experience with it.

This would be indeed appreciated along with famine relief supplies and reconstruction aid. Also for future reference when addressing messages to me you may refer put General Muhammad Hamka, as the send to address, since after all I am the one in charge here, not Pancasilla since a country being an abstract object cannot be in charge of itself. HA HA HA HA HA! You may laugh now.
