To New Holland
From General Muhammad Hamka
Your accusations wound me my dear fellows. You act as though I am some sort of criminal mastermind or empire builder, as though I am Genghis Khan reborn. HA HA HA HA! You may laugh now.
The fact the matter is that while religion is of no importance to me I am a nationalist at heart. I believe that I have a duty to the Pancasillian people who have a common heritage, culture, and national identity irrespective of religious belief. What sort of man would I be if I signed away integral parts of our national territory, undermining our national sovereignty? How would the history books treat me then? Not too different from the imams who ruled a little before hand I imagine.
Thus you understand my difficulty when you demand that sign away the Mouluccas Islands to you along with their valuable spice plantations, as well as recognizing the rebels of Sunda. What sort of precedent would that set? A terrible precedent, not just for my country but for the entire world.
