Organization of government: Bicameral Legislature, consisting of an upper house (the Council of State) and a lower house (the Legislative Assembly). The Governor General is the head of the Council of State, while the Legislative Assembly, is headed by an elected President. The Council of State consists of 58 elected members, while the Legislative Assembly comprised 141 elected members. The Council of State and Legislative Assembly have five-year terms, though either could be dissolved earlier or later by the Governor-General. Each state has a Legislative Assembly that elects a President to work alongside the Governor which is appointed by the central government.
