A New Dawn Beta Builds

First of all, thank you for a great mod-mod, the amount of features included has given me many a sleepless night lately! However, I'm getting a significant FPS slowdown with the latest beta, using the new darker interface included with 1.60 beta 4.5. Once I uninstalled it the game wasn't as choppy as it was, however there was still a marked slowdown from 1.55. My computer is more than capable at handling anything this game can throw at it (Intel i7 920, 6gb ram, Radeon 4850), so I'm not sure what the problem really is. This has been tested with both the Reccomended install option and a custom install excluding most features including the new UI.

Another issue was that even with the "mega" patch included in this beta, all land terrain was black; perhaps I did something wrong when I installed it?

The speed issue... I'm not sure about the slowdown cause. I noticed it as well. I am looking into it, but this beta seems buggier than most, so I can't tell ATM.

Ah yes, the leave stuff behind incident, i've done that alot of times already:p

Well i shouldn't have anymore problems with machines and memory, i took your advice and went out and bought a new desktop.

A Dell XPS Studio 8100, with 8 GB memory(but only 4Gb installed now), 1 TB hard drive, Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 860, HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GH50N, Intel(R) ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/DO/5 Series/3400 Series SATA RAID Controller, ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series 1024 Mb.

So i had better not have any problems:lol:
What a nice computer!:D
How many do you spent on that ?

Whatever the speed bug was, I seem to have fixed it. I am getting turns less than 1 second each, on Epic speed, Standard map. Beta5, Onward March! :)

Yeah, something like that, I think. I haven't had the issue myself, so I can't tell. Try my update CvMainInterface...

Thx will check it out as soon as possible, now the only issue i have is that pesky:

I'm glad you finally have a new computer, and its graphics card also supports DX11!!

I'm very curious that the most of people in the USA do not buy the parts and assembly them into computer, do they? Is it just for the after-sales service? I always pick out and buy the parts by myself, because of that I can get the best performance and meet my personal needs.

Do they in China? In Poland (and I think in all other countries) you can go and get up and running desktop with certain configuration. This option, while being the worst one, is for customers who don't have much clue about PCs. Usually they want to buy "core 2 duo" :) because they heard it is good, but they don't care about other components. If they want to get sth cheap, they end up with PC which includes C2D, but 512 MB RAM for instance.

The second option (that is me) is to build your own configuation, but to let it assembly by a technician. I always use on-line stores, so I can comfortable compare all the parts and prices. They usually get some money for assembling (not much - around 10-15 USD).

The third option - get all the parts and assembly it by yourself is for more advanced users. I think not many people are doing this. From my point of view it doesn't make much sense, since for couple of bucks you can get ready to use PC, instead of taking the risk to destroy some parts which are rather small and vulnerable.

2 minor nitpicks with AND 4.5BEta

1. Treadmill Crane is missing the "Actual Increase" in Hammers line

2. When an automated unit (workers, guildmasters) is finished together with a normal miliary unit and the city has no rallying point the military unit just sleeps on completion in the city and is never activated.

Yes, I'm in China. The options you said are all available in China. And there is the fourth option: there are some brokers who can buy the parts specified by customers, and assembly them, in the cheaper total price.

But the most important factor of all to DIY, is technic. Although, the most of people in China who are interesting about computer ( for example: programmers or game fans ), often choose to DIY. I know that this part of the people are still a small number of all in China. But I think the most of people in China who can be a modder, will buy the parts and assembly them by themselves.

I think the major reason for this in China, is that there were small businesses selling the whole machine in the early time ( because of the low profit ), instead of that, the parts sales market was mature. So then, it makes a lot of DIY fans. Yeah, there is another immportant reason: they will get fun from doing so.

Sorry for Afforess, I should not talk about this in this thread, and I would not do it.

Yeah, I think it happens all over the world. It's really so....miserable.

OK, tried out the new CvMainInterface, but now it even STOPs the building alot earlier now, so that isn't the problem:confused:

EDIT: One other thing i just noticed also was that the installer for 1.53 does the same thing, errors on the uninstaller, BUT the one for 1.55 works OK:crazyeye:

I got this too, didn't have Revolutions turned on (BarbCiv was on obviously). I had Germany emerging as a Minor Civ at that time, so it seems like "createMinorCiv" worked in the end despite the errors.

No, most do not. I do, but my computer is a laptop, and I only assemble for desktops. I'm far to clumsy to ever get a laptop built right. Building a PC is way more cost effective than just buying a pre-built one, and you can pick components and future-proof it. At least, IMHO.

2. When an automated unit (workers, guildmasters) is finished together with a normal miliary unit and the city has no rallying point the military unit just sleeps on completion in the city and is never activated.

1.) That's because the two values cancel out.

2.) Are you sure you don't have "Always Fortify" selected?

Sorry for Afforess, I should not talk about this in this thread, and I would not do it.

Talk all you want. That's what the forum is all about. ;)

Hmm. I have seen exactly the same python exception as your last post already and reported it to the RevDCM team, but they seem to be still away on a holiday break or something.

As for the disappearing building issue, I haven't encountered this in any test games... It's really strange.

Strategyguy, still in Late Renaissance and no problems so far. However, I saw Ram in the list... So can you give the list of additional modmods that you installed along with AND? See if it may help Afforess and others help you figure it out?

[29344.490] Finished the MLF, you will now continue loading regular XML files

Wow, nice and systemical listings of MLF loading. Where did you get that info?

Btw, with ROME, I removed its Artstyles and WWI. I modded Rules to my preferences but it shouldn't affect anything. I think it would be really, really weird if ROME is the problem because it only adds new units and Artstyle units...

With these modmods of Dancing Hoskuld, I have no idea .

I have a request for the next beta:

can we have a flexible difficulty level adjustment like I advocated before this time or
is it impossible to decrease the level to "prince" if I´m no longer among the top 20%?

Sorry, I would do it on my own but I have no idea how this could work... but I know many
ppl were also for such a rule because it is so unlikely that the human player e-v-e-r gets
to the last 20% civs during the game.

well, playing beta 1.45 is great. now in renaissance era and only 2 crashes on snail mode (large map). I deactivated the formations and had a great performance boost, glad they are optional...

Maybe I try huge next time, is this recommended btw?

and a last question: If I want to import 5-10 new civs from the mega pack, how do I do that? (sorry, I know you gave somehere an instruction but I can´t find it anymore...)

looking forward to beta 5! hope this will save my free weekend! :)

kind regards

Whatever the speed bug was, I seem to have fixed it. I am getting turns less than 1 second each, on Epic speed, Standard map. Beta5, Onward March! :)
Did you also figure out what was causing the frame rate drop?

The first feature is already in Beta4.5. To set a minimum difficulty for Flexible Difficulty, go to your Rise of Mankind/Assets/GlobalDefinesAlt.xml and open it in a text editor. Somewhere you will see a line called:
Code:
    <Define>
        <DefineName>FLEXIBLE_DIFFICULTY_MINIMUM_DIFFICULTY</DefineName>
        <iDefineIntVal>-1</iDefineIntVal>
    </Define>

Change the number to the difficulty number. -1 means no minimum. 0 is settler, 5 would be prince.

To add mega pack civs, download the pack, merge all the files. Then Open the MLF in the Rise of Mankind/Assets/Modules/Custom Civilizations and change the 1's to 0's for civilizations you don't want. They will not load.

Did you also figure out what was causing the frame rate drop?

No idea. Whatever the problem was, it's gone though. :)

thx, for explanaitions!

I forgot another point I wanted to adress:

The AI never tried to sell me contacts nor did it asked me for units or workers... I just wanted to ask if someone had this happening?
