A Tale of One City [Game Thread]

So, I'll unvote: Zack and Vote: BSmith. Among other things, post 176 strikes me as scummy. "How am I acting like a scumbag? I honestly don't see it." I've noticed that I, along with other people, I'm sure, never use the word honestly as town and almost always use it when they're scumbags trying to seem innocent.

So, you say that saying "scumbag" is a mafia-indicator, then proceed to say it.

Unvote, Vote: landlubber, because something about his reaction to Kennigit's accusation reaks of the "Oh crap, I've been accused, I must retreat" response.

And even though he has the "I must retreat" attitude, he still manages to pepper ATPG with kisses.

We all love the Pizzaman, landlubber, but blind devotion is frowned upon hereabouts!

Kennigit, I don't understand you're "Zack is so, so scummy, and so distracting" rant, when you vote for the same person I do.
I always say things I think are "distracting" (i.e. wrong but prominently posted) are indicators of scum and then rant about them. In this case it's small (a misleading statistic) compared to scumminess of others at this time.

but landlubber is displaying the "I'd like to hear from blank" and "blank's reasoning is good, let's trust blank!" scum vibe going on.
Now that I think about it, Kennigit, you always think I'm scummy.

And I always think you flinch a lot as scum. But I think I'm pretty consistent in that I think everyone is always scum, every game. Given you post more than others, I'm more likely to harp on you.

you've had enough PMs from me to know that. But given you see mainly our interactions, know that it's not just you, it's everyone ;).

I always say things I think are "distracting" (i.e. wrong but prominently posted) are indicators of scum and then rant about them.
Your opinion is that every strategy you disagree with is "distracting," though. Like you disagree that there is any significance to the numbers I posted, so you automatically think they're distracting. And remember when you mistakenly thought I was scum, and made a whole elaborate scheme to lie to me and manipulate me because you thought my I advice for vigilantes to actually kill people (*gasp*) was distracting?

In short, all of your rantings about "distractions" are largely BS. A true distraction would be leaping in to save a partner with an elaborate case on someone else; things like that. Not simple theory like "vigilantes should kill."

And you also seem to confuse "flinch" and "defend myself". And, to be honest, I haven't really even bothered to do either this game.

So, you say that saying "scumbag" is a mafia-indicator, then proceed to say it.
Not quite. Read the post. I say using the word "honestly" is scummy, not the word "scumbag." Show me where I said the word "scumbag" is scummy. That post struck me as odd because he didn't even put up any sort of defense. He just said "I'm honestly not scum."

My bad, I just misread the post.

That doesn't change my opinion or my vote, though.

Technically I just asked for clarification on how I was acting scummy, because I don't see it.

Well, yeah, that's all you wrote, but it just doesn't seem like a townie thing to say. I know people have used the "I'm not scummy, I tell you!" defense (or lack thereof) before.

So, I've done some more thinking.

First of all, BigTin is almost assuredly innocent. This lynch was folly from the beginning.

General Olaf and BSmith need to come off the "likely townie" list. Olaf fell hook, line, and sinker for the crappy case on BigTin, and he mapped out the lynches for days in advance, which is a big stinky. We must follow this course of action and ignore anything else that happens along the way. We'll lynch BigTin today, then BSmith tomorrow, then ATPG. If one or more of them are mafia, all well and good. If not, oh well! I don't like it.

BSmith needs to be lynched tomorrow. At this point, he's too much of a distraction to the town anyways, and he'll be constantly hanging over our heads if he's left alive; besides, he's scummy enough to warrant a lynching. He just seems fake to me. Forced. And looking back at the categories I made, he was late enough on the NinjaCow wagon and he has been raging against ATPG all game. Not to mention, he rolled his eyes at ATPG. Never can I recall a townie doing such a thing. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west, mafia roll their eyes at ATPG -- it doesn't even matter if it is indeed rolleye-worthy. It's a fact of life.

Landlubber needs to go the way of the lynch sometime, sooner rather than later. Mafia always tend to go to one of two extremes with ATPG -- either they froth at the mouth against him (like BSmith) or they shower him with kisses. Granted, no townies except the Jebs do the former, but townies have been known to follow the Pizzaman blindly, although it's far more prevalent in mafia.

Watch out for people doing dumb things, like posting nothing except "vote: BigTin" even though the case on him is bullocks. Doing dumb things is townie. Remember the infamous words of the (innocent) philosopher, Darth Caesar: "Nictel Ekolite Autolycus Seon Methos."

As the game goes on, watch out for people who advocate lynching inactives who will likely be WOGed. Especially people who vote for inactives who later are WOGed and found to be mafia; there's a good chance they were trying to bus their partner. Lynching players who tend to drift towards inactivity is an excellent strategy Day One; not so on Day Ten, unless there has been a suspicious lack of night kills.

Look for mafia not among the big talkers (unless it's ATPG or I; we flail our arms and scream and post in volumes regardless of our alignment), but among the medium and small talkers. Big talkers will be nightkilled or lynched anyways.

Never be content with the suspects you currently have. Look at everyone, not just the big talkers or vote-getters; conversely, don't throw cases in the trash can willy-nilly. Stand firm in your suspicions, but keep an ear open to the other side of the argument. Only a very small percentage of the players in this game are mafia. If you think someone's mafia, chances are you're wrong.

Don't use silly things that haven't worked in years as "scumtells." You know what I'm talking about. OMGUSes, third-on-the-bandwagon, etc. That stuff is nonsense, and has been for a long time. When mafia were getting outed every game for OMGUS votes and being third-on-the-bandwagon, they stopped doing it. They adapted. Scumtells stop working after awhile. Put the ancient ones that haven't worked in a long time to rest. Mafia avoid age-old scumtells like OMGUS and third-on-the-bandwagon like the plague, and you should avoid using them in your cases like the plague.

Concerning ATPG, listen to him; he knows what he's doing and he knows what to look for. However, be wary of him, and by no means trust him (or anyone, for that matter). He's one of the best at masking his alignment, and he has been lynched many, many times as an innocent, and very, very few times as a mafia. If you think he's mafia, he likely isn't. If you have the urge to lynch him, consider it. Pizzaman had a three-year-long streak (IIRC) of not being lynched as mafia before Paired Mafia; he's been lynched countless times as an innocent in that span. He knows how to play the game, both as mafia and as town. He knows every trick in the book, so don't throw him away as a suspect because he nabs mafia; he'll be the first to tell you he's ruthlessly bussed teammates before to get massive townie cred. If the heads he's calling for are consistently innocent, remember he's not infallible and that everyone has off games, but also remember that if he's mafia he wants those innocent heads rolling. Listen to him, but be wary of him. Don't follow him blindly, don't oppose everything he does. If it's nearing the endgame, become extremely wary of him. Pizza rarely, if ever, survives to the end of the game as an innocent. He does it all the time as mafia.

Now, a revising of some lists (and these lists are by no means concrete):

Likely townie:

  • Diana Abnoba
  • choxorn
  • Darth Caesar
  • Verarde
  • BigTin
  • Joecoolyo -- Someone should look up how he acted in the Dinner Party; didn't he just jump on bandwagons all game? I don't think he was this brash and careless.
  • JoanK

Prime suspects:

  • BSmith
  • landlubber

Lesser suspects:

  • Kennigit
  • Mergle
  • Jarrema

Be wary of these people, even though chances are they're innocent:

  • askthepizzaguy
  • General Olaf

Anyone not on the above lists I either have no stance on, or they are yours truly (I don't make cases against myself, sorry).

Whew! *wipes brow*

That was a doozy. I feel like ATPG and Earthling with the sheer amount of text I've been posting this game.

Not to mention, he rolled his eyes at ATPG. Never can I recall a townie doing such a thing. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west, mafia roll their eyes at ATPG -- it doesn't even matter if it is indeed rolleye-worthy. It's a fact of life.

I guess you didn’t get it. :(

Did you ever stop to consider that I noticed this “rule” directly under the “we we we” rule that Pizza so kindly linked us to and rolled my eyes at him to make a point?

If you think someone's mafia, chances are you're wrong.

Indeed.

Trying to save Ninja or something? should be the focal point of the case, IMO.

Everyone's a critic.

Yes, I did anyway.

And you know what's funny? I've seen both townies and mafia do that, to spit in the face of that rule. It's a null-tell.

You're dead wrong about me and you are probably wrong about BigTin. Who are your other suspects again?

Hey Zack, do you think you're going to be murdered tonight or something? That post felt like a last will and testament. If I die, do this and this and this.

Message received, but am I right about that?

I was partly joking in the part you quoted me, BSmith.

I think landlubber is a better candidate than you, anyways.

Maybe not tonight, but soon. I just want to get my thoughts out before I bite the dust.

And that was my point about the “we we we” rule as well. It too is usually a null-tell. Not that you shouldn’t point it out and ask for clarification anyway. The response to the question is usually worth more than the initial post.

This whole BigTin thing has gotten blown way out of proportion. He made some questionable posts and had even more questionable responses to criticism about those posts. But it has become a central part of the game because you are forcing the issue with my vote for Ninja in response to his vote for JoanK. I have already explained my reasoning for that vote, but my survival has now become intricately tied with the results of today’s lynch, thanks to you pushing the issue.

As for suspects, I would support a landlubber lynch. I think we also need to look at the BigTin voters in detail as well. It was going to either be him or me today, and so voting for one of us was a safe move by the mafia. Not much reasoning needed for their vote. I’ll bet top dollar that the mafia are using the distraction to hide in the masses.

Maybe Olaf or Verarde given the timing of their votes, early enough to avoid the late comer accusation for the eventual bandwagon, yet fairly certain that one of us will get lynched and others would be voting the same way too.

If BigTin is indeed mafia, it would also be a good way to get townie cred.

You're welcome! :D

I'll start the update as soon as I finish my sandwich. IF anyone wants to switch votes, do it quick.
