Adventures of the Vietnamese (IV)

the Temple of Artemis
Well, my Vanilla civ here doesn't have that lovely building, but we do have another, maybe even cooler, substitution: it's the - the... Kashi WTFranatha? Well, I don't remember the name, but it's the Hindu holy shrine :p
But most likely all of them.
Good call :goodjob: Now look at our economy after 15 marathon turns:

Wow, +1 at 50%. That's quite another feat :D Now this is yet another one:

Who to make 4 phoney wars against the Aztecs? Us. While doing our own war:
attachment.php

Tiflis is burned. 1 tile north should be better. Why does Kubly keep building bad sites?
attachment.php

Samarqand shares the same fate. But that's not the last settlement to be razed:
attachment.php

The ruins there was Turfan. Our new city Cantho is way better, though a bit squeezed ;)

Texcoco is actually the last city of the Mongols. Goodbye the Khan. Now to the real Aztecs:

Darn  it's a bloodbath at Tlaxcala. We lost nearly all men, when Ceasar demands this:
attachment.php

How can we make another choice? Manny is also at this war against the French (actually he is the one to initiate it first :crazyeye:) Rome is another of our allies, who we bribed to attack Paris once. So, we make peace with Monty (yet again ) & join another phoney war against Louis. Or should Chu make it a real attempt? :mischief:

Why do you say yes to war requests? I always say no unless there is perfect timing involved.

Why do you say yes to war requests? I always say no unless there is perfect timing involved.
Well maybe that's a matter of tastes :p Wars spice up the game, I may say :D
Guessing war with H. Capac is coming soon.
Bingo! baseballpie, your every guess has, until now, been true. We're going for the Incan.
But well, listen, folks. I've expanded our empire to a really big one, to the point where I find every turn is a long, arduous combination of both micro- & macroing. I often forget what I planned to do because there are simply too many things! To the opposite of the ocean, there're 6 more civilizations to be discovered, but I feel like we will win anyway, so I lose another motive to try. Looks like I'm not the type of civver to play huge games :) Actually this is the first time I play a large map, & the third time or so trying the marathon speed (but this game is the longest I've reached). So, guys, I'm offering you the chance to continue this game & write a good ending for the fourth adventure of the Vietnamese. I've made a list of goals at this time of the game for Nguyen Phuc Chu:
* Short term goal:
- Build lots of catapults & some maces & attack Capy in a two pronged assault. Gain 2 squads of Accuracy cats & some wonders after the war.
- Build 3 missionaries & some explorers, load them on 2 caravels & start traveling toward 2 directions, initiating oversea trades with the remaining 6 civs in the dark while getting the circumnavigate bonus.
- Roading all the cities so every unit moving from 1 to another site don't have to take any detour at all.
- Specialize the cities. I barely did it :crazyeye:
* Mid term goals:
- Conquer all the civs on our own continents except the Malinese (obviously for the purpose of trading), in no particular order.
- Find a warmonger with less cities on the other continent, try to convert him to Hinduism & starting bribing for havoc :D
- Try to set a foot on that other half of the world.
* Long term goal:
- When Manny is of no use, dispose of him.
- Conquer the remaining land, if we have not won already.
Does that sound good enough? If any of you are interested, feel free to contact me. Don't let the story stop without an end! :)

No problem, I think the biggest challenge with this one is that, you'll have to downgrade your Civ4 back to vanilla & install my Vietnam 1.4 mod. You'll have to forget about lots of things in BtS & start recalling how vanilla games feel like. Surely the hardest part :D
Next, it's not necessary at all, but I think it's better if someone matches my playing characteristics:
- I prefer wars ;)
- I'm a perfectionist. That is, I always try microing things to their best. But as the game flows, I find myself more & more unable to continue that way. Instead, I often glance through the cities for whipping time, for example :) That bothers me much...
- I'm about at Emperor level. But skill is not the most important here, we can't lose whatsoever, can we? :D
Again, I'd like to emphasize that those above do not matter much, it's just a wee bit better if they match yours. As a writer calling for all of your help, I'm not in a position to make arrogant demands :mischief:
@GreekAnalyzer: tks for your kind offering. I'm looking for the save file & will send you if no one else jumps in (actually I've played this game for quite a while ago). But hey, how about several people taking the save & play it to their own taste? Kind of a competition, like those GOTM or so  That sounds interesting to me... Anyone else?

Send me a PM when you can give it.
And then I'll tell you how long it takes the Emperor AI to crush me like a bug

I'm not at home, so... Anyway, I'll send you the save(s) when I can get my hands on my laptop (geez, so busy lately). Meanwhile, could you please install & run my mod on your vanilla civ4 to see whether it's smooth or not? The mod link is in my sig.
And don't be so humble :) I've read bits of your games, & you're playing well. BTW, the Vietnamese fourth adventure is actually not played with emperor difficulty - it's Monarch ^_^ I felt like I should be a little more cautious to ensure a win, & the result is that now we're roaring with 19 cities or so, while leaving almost every other civ in heavy dust. The only exception is maybe Manny in term of techs, but that's for our own good, haha
As for the coming game of the Vietnamese, I'd like to remind you about our UU. It's the No lien chau, which is similar to the Chinese Chokonu in many ways, except that it's more archaic & therefore, weaker in term of hit points. However, it has several advantages such as: requires either iron or copper; has city defense bonus; & of course, shares the same ability of delivering collateral damage. Hence it can be used for many purposes: suiciding just like the cats; attacking the melee units (thanks to its melee bonus); & after the capture of a city, defending it. Very versatile, isn't it ;) So feel free to add these lovely units to your conquest & use it unsparingly, for that also add more Vietnamese flavor to the game :D

Downloading now: I have access to all 3 versions (Vanilla, Warlords and BtS) via Steam. Wait, I praised Steam. AAGGH!
Hmmm... When loading, it get's stuck on Init XML (uncached)

Did you mean it stuck when running Vanilla or Vanilla with my mod? If the VN mod is installed already, I'll have to check it out soon...

Is your vanilla version 1.74? It's weird, for I have played this one for ages :crazyeye: If it's possible, could you please do a clean reinstall of the game? If there's an error, I may pose some guesses... But since it's stuck with no notifications, I think we'll need some expert troubleshooting on our forum...

Well, my Vanilla civ here doesn't have that lovely building, but we do have another, maybe even cooler, substitution: it's the - the... Kashi WTFranatha? Well, I don't remember the name, but it's the Hindu holy shrine :p
Good call :goodjob: Now look at our economy after 15 marathon turns:

Are you saying that the Kashi Viswanath alone fixed all your money problems? +1 at 50% is all very well, but it's the 1800 balance that is the big surprise.

Setbacks, and the (plausible explanation of the) civ's response to them, is what distinguishes a good story from "the rest" (imho)...

No, not the Kashi Viswanath (is it correctly spelled? Finally... :)) alone. Nguyen Phuc Chu got 3 buildings up for him: Washington finished the Colossus (or the Great lighthouse), the Mongol capital of Karakorum has the other one - which we invaded at about the same time, & this big lottery win named Hindu holy shrine. All in the course of 15 turns (or less). What a coincidence ;)
However, I have to admit that the Kashi is the key. Fate has led us to a big continent with only one religion founded & spread at the time. We also happened to neighbor Victoria, who happened to be the Hinduism founder :) Hinduism happened to be founded very soon in the English capital & not another weaker city. Now London, too, happened to be a monster city with all the cottages & commerce buildings we can add... It goes on & on... Now how rare can this particular thing happen in a game?
GreekAnalyzer: have you been able to fix the problem? Since I don't have the same one, there's little I can help :( All the other guys, could you pls kindly install my Vietnam mod to see whether you face the same issue as our Greek buddy or not?

Tks. Anyway, you did buy it, didn't you? ;)
@greekanalyzer: seems that I've found the root for your problem with the mod. Have you got something in the customs assets folder? It can cause troubles. Therefore I've tweaked my mod so it won't load custom assets anymore, pls download my latest version & give it a try.
