I see ;) Another question; Why is mountaineering a medieval tech instead of a classical tech? Hannibal crossed the Alps as did the Romans otherwise the Romans short sailing would be stuck in Italy. :)

If it was any earlier then you may as well get rid of mountains completely. Also if everyone did it we would not remember Hannibal :)

I could always give the Romans and Carthaginians the ability to cross mountains right away, if you want.

I agree. I like the way mountains create chokepoints and defensive positions in the early game. I like being able to cross them eventually, but not too early.

To simulate Hannibal, could a new promotion be added, available only to Great Generals, that allows units in the General's space to cross mountains?
 
I love this idea. The question is what tech would be required for this promotion?

I was thinking it would just be a Great General Promo, but if you have a specific tech in mind, I'm all ears.

Update: I have the new promotion all set up and working. I just need to code AI logic and I'm done.
 
I'm not so sure. The best use of siege is to suicide it. The AI doesn't understand that they might be giving away some siege units to the player.


I only made the "with siege" component because of popular demand.

Yeah, I think that's a good reason. The real reason I never did it is probably because I got lazy. ;)

How about completly blocking siege from attacking? They would be allowed to bombard city defence and mabe to perform ranged attacks.
I think it is more realistic than allowing catapults to charge.
But I think, it would need much work with rebalancing units, and with AI.

That would make taking cities pretty much impossible. RIght now, usually you need to suicide 1 or 2 siege units to be able to take a city. Otherwise, it would take like 4x the defenders to win.

I'm playing with RoM 2.71 and Afforess's Addons 1.351... and the game always freeze.
It happens every time in different game.... :eek:

I don't need a save. RoM 2.71 has crashing problems. It's well known. Nothing you can do about it. Good news is that RoM 2.8 has those bugs fixed, so no more CTD's or freezes.

Not, if their ranged attacks would cause collateral damage. Also separate ranged and mele str (as like it is in Fall Further) would be good idea, so siege units would be very powerfull when bombarding, but lame when deffences.
I am not very up to date with all bug fixes in all mods - but I've heard that ranged attacs cause some crashes, so I think this could burry my idea ;-)

That would be quite a game changer. I don't know much about ranged attacks, probably because I never use them.

Siege units are already terrible at defense. I think the amount of effort nessecary to differentiate between melee strength and ranged strength would exceed the benefits it would provide to gameplay. (Plus, I'm not that good at C++.)

Hey, I play this game sorta obsessively on some days. But I did go to hot party in a club last weekend. Even got to dance with a woman in "wow" way :D. No need ot expand on that. So you just need to find some type of free time and go clubbing from time to time :D. You will like it!

PS: I'm 30 years old, so consider how much more fun you can have compared to my old body! :lol:
 
First, let me start with: I love your modmod. I am using Afforess's Addons 1.351 and RoM 2.71.

I am unable to build the Parthenon. I have the requisite Techs and my civilization's religion is in the city but I am not even getting a grayed out Pantheon showing. Does anyone know if this is a known issue with Afforess's modmod or RoM?
