AG - Discussion thread

Three of my running SG's are in the end-phase (AG3-Ultra big map, AG7-Democracy, AG8-Sid). They will probably all be glorious wins :)

Time to think about two new ones. On the previous page I was talking about 'no artillery deity'. I'd like to chance this idea a bit:

Solo war using AI war tactics:
No artillery, no bombers, no armies allowed and you may not make any alliance (thanks microbe for the suggestion). Domination/conquest on deity. I will start it after both AG3 and AG7 are done.

Sid Space Race:
A new Sid game, but then with one goal: winning the space Race. I want to start this after AG8.

I'd like to know if there's some interest in these suggestions :)

I will probably start only two SG's between now and October (apart from the odd OCC), because I will be away in September. So, knowing that a SG takes two months on average I will not start a new one as from mid July.

I also like sid space.

aggie, your games are always a joy! I'll be glad to join ANY that is not above my playing skills!

Aggie, I've been reading AG10, and I have to say, what an epic struggle that is! It looks impossible, but don't give up...you just never know.

I'd be very interested in a rematch of that. I'm also curious as to the strategy you chose...building until the industrial age and then trying a blitz. I know that tactic works for 5CCC, but seems a bit strange for OCCC, where every turn increases the difficulty factor. I'd have thought an early game rush would be about the only way to beat OCCC...kind of like we did for the Zulu OCCC regent, although it would be far more difficult at emperor.

I can't play another "full" game until either 5CCCR or Tokugawa the Unsettled complete. Any plans to do an "always war" game in the future? Don't think the AG series has had one yet. Remember "Warmonger's Delight"? That was great fun, but it was a long time ago, and that's the last always war SG I played. Maybe do an always war emperor or demigod some time? I know these have been done aplenty on these forums, but most "always war" game victories have been on very specific map settings....maybe try it on a largely random map?

Alternatively you could do a "themed" always war game. Maybe try a civ and map that isn't suited to always war. Perhaps something resembling Bitain in WW2? Archipelago always war as thew Engish, with rivals including Germany, France, Russia etc?

Well, the idea of AG10 was to start wars with horses, then knights, then cavalry, then artillery and then finish it off with Panzers. But...we had no horses and iron. So we were sitting ducks, because on a pangaea map an emperor foe can make a lot of progress compared to a OCC. So before we knew it we landed in the middle ages. At that time the Maya were very strong and we heavily depended on the French for resources. We tried a few times, but the Maya only got stronger. So an early war tactic proved virtualy impossible.

Next time however I want to play as India, China or another civ with a relatively early UU.

Regarding AW: I have seen a lot of AW games lately. I do like these games, but there is hardly something exotic about it. I haven't seen a lot (or even any, I haven't checked out all SG's) of OCCC Emperor games before. I think I would rather join an AW than organise one myself. Unless there's a twist, but I haven't thought about a possible AW with a twist yet.

However, I will not start up a new game before one of the other games finishes and I also don't want to organise a SG that I likely won't finish myself (my holiday is in September). So my next SG's will probably be in October.

I will not start up or join new SG's until either a new patch (that solves the AI issues with armies) or CIV4 comes out. I will finish the 3 last SG's and 2 PBEM's I'm in, but after that I will take a CIV break and only lurk the CFC forum for news and developments.

Thank you all for a great 2.5 years of CIV3. I never thought that I would have such a great time when I joined CFC :)

EDIT: I have edited the first post of this thread and turned it into my SG history post.

:(

this is one of those posts I siimply wish I had dreamt, not read in RL!

thanx again for many interesting games full of suspence!

aggie: I bet it will not be ;) and I challange you to a PBEM once the thrid expansion finally comes out including PBEM ;)

I would beg, but I doubt it would make any difference. Aggie, I doubt anyone else will convince me to play in an SG, so I will wait for your return again. ;)
