AI not expanding

@Thunderbrd ,
While this pitched battle against the barbs has been reaally fun I do see your point about the barbs being Too prolific in unit production. I met the challenge of the barbs having stacks with 40 + single type of unit with a mix of the remaining types. But I'll let the next screenshot kind of speak for itself to the point on the barbs getting out of control on sheer Number of Units they are allowed to build.

This city has just compiled a set of Stone mace that is Truly amazing in sheer numbers, 309!

With all my empire set to build mil units till I run out of gold I don't think I can compete with this proliferation.

Perhaps the Barbs need some kind of constraint on how Fast they can build units. Or a Cap on each category of unit they can build per city. Is there any kind of Global setting that would slow down barb unit construction? Or is this part of the Barb coding?

I am not yet sure how to best curb this issue but I imagine the solution would be in the ai somewhere. Id like them to attack with those forces more often... even just to lemming some off.

That stack moved off and went down south towards the Babylonians. Last time I saw it, it was down to 291 Stone mace and still moving about.

I am getting excursions (smaller stacks) that come into my territory and try to disrupt builds or attack workers. In fact the Barb AI is sending workers into my borders try to draw me out to capture them so the Barb AI can counter attack and pick off any units that can not get back to a palisade, fort or city. If I can have my units end up on tiles that give 50% defense then they will attack less. Especially if they lose more than a handful of their "fast" units like chariots and Camel riders. Really gald that we still have a limit on Arsonists. The barb uses them pretty well in counter attacks. But they have not, so far, put more than 2-4 in any stack. Now Pike are starting to show as well as explorers. I just got Mounted Infantry. The War escalates! :D:lol:

I just started a custom game on blitz speed to try for my first time the mod (v38.5), large map, noble difficulty, continents. I'm about 12% through the game but my AI rivalries are also not expanding at all, though most of them have already reached ancient era.
Seems like a waste of a 7 hour game :undecide:

We've been saying for months that 38.5 isn't worth playing over the current SVN version. We are looking to have a new release in a few weeks here though. That bug is a major part of what's been resolved in this version.

I've only played Rise of Mankind up to now, never had to use an SVN version before. Any guides around on how to install one?

Also something else annoying I experienced on the 38.5 version, when I enter the city view screen, the unit and building options queues are only one line high, the second line gets obscured by an horizontal scroll bar. That only happens in 1440p resolution, in 1080p it shows fine.
Should I report it somewhere else or is this fixed in the new version?

It is not wasted time , as now you know some basic game mechanics.
Go and play SVN and learn more.....and have fun....

Ok, I just found my way to the current svn build, gonna try this one instead of the v38.5 :)
The reason I'm going with noble is that I don't know my way through the mod right now, as sson as I see that I'm ahead in stuff, gonna go for flexible difficulty.

I would like to expand on this settling problem.
Been with the latest SVN version ever since I got back to playing this (so around a handful of games).
I notice that on Deity difficulty the AI does something somewhat interesting, 5-4 out of 6 civs hoard their second "settler" and simply won't get another city (with maybe 1 actually getting around to settle after the initial city founding period) until late-Prehistoric.

My settings usually are:
Tiny Map;
Eons;
one civ per culture (7)
+
some games I tried BarbWorld
others the 1-tile founding
most games I used RecklessAnimals
and other generic options turned on

This makes me have to manually settle these second cities for the AI using the WorldBuilder, which can be kind of a huge pain after a while.

I would like to know if those settings are hurting their progress, making the world too dangerous for them to sent "settlers" or if it is something else entirely?

Suggestion leave the AI alone until Ancient Era. If the AI, on Deity, has not founded their 2nd City by Sedentary Lifestyle, then a save game would be needed.
