ALC Game 20: Vikings/Ragnar

Sorry for the delay, I finally got back from the weekend from hell just minutes ago. December is a lousy time of year to travel; SW BC got slammed by a snowstorm. We don't handle snow well here--we're just not used to it. I'm amazed my little Toyota Echo saw us through it. All hail front wheel drive.

I'm exhausted, so the friggin' settler stays where he is until tomorrow. Wow! 11 pages. :crazyeye: Why doesn't everybody just take a break from posting here until I put the first round up? ;)

A break?
But.. what would we do?

Hey Sisiutil Next ALC you may want to seperate the discussion thread and the actual gameplay of your ALC In another thread.

This way you don't have to use spoiler Tags (if you were planning to) and people like me don't have problems trying to read a post that keep moving around because there's a Pic being loaded. Although you'll have to somehow notify the new people not to post in your gameplay thread and get them to post in your discussion thread.

The discussion for the starting location alone is 11 pages long :S :S :S...

There are allways link to the gameplay on the first page so it is easy to follow gameplay anyways...

A good part of it is actually the discussion about the discusion beeing to long :crazyeye: , so i think the starting location acoounts only to 7 or 8 pages of it.

A dedicated discussion thread would do no good i think... people would constantly jump between them, post spoilers in the wrong one and stuff like this

I think he should settle on the clam.... just to keep this thread going...

;)

Maybe not a discussion thread, but a whole sub-forum under Strategy dedicated to the ALC would certainly do the trick. Then every tiny topic (and poll) can get its own thread while keeping everything together. :)

Settle on the stone! Extra hammer at the start, 4 clams, + hurried moai, acess to jumbos, it screams uber powered city!

I agree with those earlier posts, I think this thread is being crushed by the weight of its own popularity.

I would suggest a limit of 1 post per round once the game starts, but of course that would have to be a self-imposed rule for each to decide on his or her own.

Having links at the beginning is helpful (at this point its NECESSARY, otherwise I wouldn't bother reading anymore) but there is a lot of discussion that kind of swerves off the main path in my opinion. I know I'm guilty of one post like that in a previous ALC thread, although I try to limit my posts in general.
This game can be analyzed to death and while that is good for the game by its nature, it's also tiresome :)

Renname the civ "Nautilus Pirates" and the leader "Captain Svensgaard" and we're good to go.

Alpha Centauri 2....where are you? :D

Just so you were wondering about wether to settle on the stone or the plain, I would say the stone, which is what I appear the majority of people to believe.

You would get an instant extra hammer in your capital which can accelerate the first build, making up for the lost turn you spent moving the settler.

I played a shadow game doing this, and came up with an ... interesting result. I'll say no more, but I think this map will be okay, but at the same time, challenging because of some of the other civs' locations.

Yes this is quite interesting actually. There's a clear majority of posters in this thread that advocate settling on the stone, but the poll is 60/40 ish for settling in place.

11 Pages of complete and utter stupidity; Not to offend anyone, but we're sitting around in post battles, debating over which tile to settle in?! Does anyone besides myself feel this way? In the time its taken to even get this far, I've had two tests in Biology and 3 in Algebra II! Holy crap!</sarcasm>

Seriously, I suggest that the next round get posted. Its been like 330-odd posts and nothing really big has happened. Usually, for it to get to 11 pages, 2 rounds have been played. Its really annoying seeing this thread at the top, only to discover nothing has actually happened/...
