ALC Game #25: Celts/Boudica, Take 2

Welcome back, Sis!! :woohoo:

The NNE tile looks like a freshwater lake. Scout NE to be sure, as it will reveal the most tiles. The coast looks like it bends off to the west, so you might as well settle in place, there's really no other place to go.

I'll echo the suggestion to build a worker ASAP and mine the gold.

Settle in place worker first tech path ah -> mining -> bw or something... Certainly not the kind of start i like but it is certainly playable(too little food). The worker should improve the cows first then mine the gold.

I've been lurking on the ALC's for a few months now and I'm very excited Sis is back. I probably won't have much input, but you can bet I'll be reading every post!

[lurker]Great to see you back, Sisitituil. I'm a great fan of your threads and I'm glad you're feeling motivated to continue with them! [/lurker]

Welcome back, have fun with this one.

Scout NE, to be able to see the direct vicinity. If you don't see anything spectacular I'd say settle in place. I would research mining first, while building a worker (he should mine the gold first to get an early benefit of the Gold in the BFC). -> AH - BW

I agree with this path (although first move the scout to reveal some more land). If no horses or copper are in close range, then going Archery after BW would make sense.

Welcome back to your challenge, Sis. I never doubted the return of the master writer :D - did I tell you I just love the update of the 'Princes' ?

ontopic: just settle in place and don't let this scout irritate you with new facts ;)

Settle in place. Move the Scout either NW or NE. Go Worker first. Tech AH - Mining - BW.

Worker first then mining->BW. Mining lets you get the gold in play to tech AH faster.

Sigh. Times like these make me wish Lumbermills were a BW improvement.

Welcome back, Sis!!! ^_^

You seem to be two tiles east of the coast. Move the scout onto the silk to the Southwest, to see what we've got available. Then we can spend another couple of pages discussing on whether to move the Settler. ^_-

I just looked at the map settings and I see that it's Medium sea level, rather than Low Sea level which I thought it was (9 civs on medium is very crowded, making some AI's doomed). Looks like we'll get another early rush here assuming availability of resources. With the gold, it may even be possible to plow through Iron Working soon as well. Production won't be a problem with these forests so chopping axes/GW makes sense.

Boudicca is a difficult leader and the Celts are a difficult civ, I really don't like playing them. For Boudicca especially it's always a razor-fine balancing act between military and economic, it's just so exhausting, even more so because the finesse is mostly in the ancient and classical era. This start is also very fustrating in that there can be so many tech orders.

Gold in capital makes it worse - you have to judge exactly when is the right time to work plain mines for settlers and workers, and when you can start to afford to work the gold for commerce.

Honestly i do not see point in moving scout north. I hardly imagine he could find something worth moving. Checking coast and south...
