I know, that always struck me as a bit odd, Nikolai is Slavic isnt it? I would think of it as a Russian or Bulgarian name... it was a German program though, so don't blame me!

Yeah, that name is definitely Slavic... I found some links, apparently the show is called "Nico" on BBC. (upon not being able to find anything at first, I replaced the K with a C, thanks to my Romanian instinct which was screaming "there's no K in Romanian!")

It's definitely below my level unfortunately. I am frustrated about not being able to understand much more than 50% of my musicology course, which talks about abstract concepts, history and culture - buying a train ticket or learning what to order at a restaurant is something I've been able to do with no problem for quite a while.

I finished a B2 exam with no problems whatsoever, and the requirements for that, according to the Goethe Institut, are as follows:

After passing the examination, you will be able to do the following, for example:
* follow the main content of specific and abstract topics and obtain relevant information from them (i.e. radio broadcasts),
* understand a wide range of texts, both shorter simple texts (such as advertisements) and longer, more complex factual texts, commentaries and reports,
* express yourself clearly and in a structured way in writing on the subject of complex matters and also correct mistakes in texts written by other people,
* give clearly structured oral comments on general subjects and topics of particular interest to you,
* take an active part in discussions on subjects you know about, taking up a position and presenting your own point of view.

So unfortunately that show isn't gonna teach me anything I don't know already.

Poland was conquering Germans and Russians in those days. We were also one of the biggest countries in Europe.

Most Europeans at the time didn't know anything beyond the neighboring few villages.

India Intra does not look like an island on that map to me.

Sri Lanka looks way too big though.

They have India really much smaller and Sri Lanka far to the west and far bigger.

India isn't that small, they just greatly underestimated how far south it should extend. If anything the Indus and Ganges are too far away, making India larger than it should be in the longitudinal direction.
