Altered Maps ΙΓ: To make a map larger than what it maps.

Didn't someone post that very same map already?

Romania (apart from the coastal strip, and definitely nothing north of the Danube) isn't part of "Rumelia" though. But all thrace is (including Constantinople).
(i am sure all the rest on that map is just fine :p ).

Apparently Johan made a map. Can't be worse than what's going on in any of the EU series.

Also, for Christ sake, what the hell is Finisterre? All I know is it's a province in Britanny. Again, due to the abovementioned series.
Finisterre is a cape. It's also a sea area in French and Spanish shipping forecasts, and was also one for the British for many years.

I'm trying to think of an alternate history where this happened.

I like how Switzerland just stands there. "You're splitting up, guys? I'm all OK with that, I'm here to stay."

It's a neat map. But is it geography?

The point of this thread series used to be ridiculous alternate borders like these, but then it got turned into yet another infographics thread. This represents a return to form.

To be fair, the map is about EU member states.

Why on earth would you put bits of London into two countries when the population of London proper is almost exactly the target size? Given that London in many ways is a city-state, making it a city-state for the map seems a no brainer.

On the other hand a lot of Londoners might well agree that those godless suburbs towards Essex already are another country :hmm:

Are you looking at the same map?

The target size is 17 to 18 million, isn't it?

You've confused me utterly.

And, really, New Saxony? I guess the mapmaker is trying to be silly.

Well. Sussex does mean South Saxony, anyway, doesn't it? What would you have preferred, Greater South Saxony?

Wessex or something connected to the South? Then we have the silliness with "Northland" and the barely-Gaelic (if that) Northern Isles being included in the Celtic Union.

Oh, you are critical!

I agree it's not a sensible map. But it's a good effort at producing equal population sized European states.

Otherwise what do we have? A Europe dominated by Germany, France and the UK?

Ahh, right you are. As it scaled on my screen it looked like the ones were some sort of + symbol. Which just confused me.
