Amanda knox is to face retrial, with her ex boyfriend again in Florence and if found guilty will face extradition to Italy to serve the rest of her sentence.

From telegraphy

Italy's Supreme Court has overturned the acquittal of Knox and her Italian former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, who were originally sentenced to 26 and 25 years in prison for killing and sexually assaulting Miss Kercher in 2007.

WTH...

Three cheers for the laughable Italian "justice" system! Hip hip, hoorah! Hip hip, Hoorah! Hip hip, Hoorah!

I have absolutely no faith in the Italian legal system... No matter what happens here, whether they are tried, convicted, released -- whatever -- no justice will come of this whole thing.

EDIT: x-post

Just when you think the whole ordeal is over, they claw you back in.

Don't they have double jeopardy rules in Italy? I thought being found innocent once was enough.

They were found guilty once too, don't forget... The whole thing is one botched job after another, from the police to the forensics to the prosecution to the initial verdict to the DNA to the acquittal and now to the retrial. Total BS all the way.

So basically the Italians are trying to save-scum this case?

From the article, it sounds like this appeal to examine procedural matters has turned into a full-fledged retrial. Can the Italian Supreme Court reprimand itself for breaking its own rules?

Good luck with the extradition on that one.

Yep. Though she'll have a hard time travelling abroad and can probably never return to Europe.

Does anyone think we would be as interested in this case if it didn't involve a half-naked woman?

There is no real reason to ever leave USA #1 anyway. We have every clime anyone could ever want to visit right here in the 50, natural wonder and beauty beyond compare, and plenty of places to more or less escape society at large quite effectively.

Yeah, but then you have to deal with Americans.

:mischief:

After what she's been through, who'd want to?

A bad experience in Italy shouldn't make you want to avoid Norway or Australia.

What about cultural tourism? I can't wait to experience Dallas' culture doesn't have the same appeal.

The world comes to America. If that's what you want on a vacation, you can find it.

Note, though, that whenever I manage to escape on a vacation, I want the hell away from people. Give me natural beauty and whatnot every time over humanity.

What if I want stunning beauty with solitude? America's National Parks are amazing, but they're not somewhere to go to be alone.

Australia isnt part of Europe, which would be of primary concern.

But it would make one study up on which countries have extradition agreements with Italy.
