America: Write Your Own History

Just because you can't have a pistol or your assault rifle, it doesn't mean the world is ending! No one ever said that we can't overrule the decision in case it gets out of hand either.

We just need to be patient. Let America start fixing itself before we go and tear it up again.

OOC: Caterpillar, is this what it felt like when Browder/Foster was elected? :p

Provisional Government Elections of 1944

Spoiler :
As the United Front and anti-Browderists retake the nation and proclaim an end to the dictatorship and the USSA, a need for a temporary government was clearly seen. The constitution, the Bill of Rights, even the capital were all out of order. With debates opening up in New York City (temporary capital), officials debates on who to elect as Provisional Governor until elections could be held once again. The Provisional Governor has absolute power, with expectations to reconstruct America and reinstate democracy. Impeachment is constantly a fear of the Provisional Governor.

Election News!

The convention is fierce! As delegates of various states debated on the best choice for Provisional Governor, three candidates stood out. With strong backing from the military, Dwight D. Eisenhower focuses on the fact that he led both the attack on Browderville and organized the Provisional elections. His promises are simple: return the nation to the freedom it had before the Communist Revolution, restore its national standing, prevent another world war, and increase America's military strength. Initially during the first votes, Eisenhower was sweeping through, but as economists worried about America's economic standing in a post-Communist society, former Governor of New York Thomas Dewey was nominated. Citing his experience with New York's bustling economy, and with recognition for reducing crime and corruption in the city, he gained some lead. Many felt that a transition back to Lockwood economics was a step in the wrong direction, however, and moderate Socialist Norman Thomas was nominated. Both closet-Communists and Debs-Era Socialists rallied behind him, which took votes out of Eisenhower's supporters. Now the election is between these three nominees, with Thomas leading, Dewey gradually gaining influence, and Eisenhower struggling to regain his supporters.

News!

With a lively debate on firearms, Thomas has lost some supporters do to his strong stance on no personal firearms. When the discussion on how to deal with Browder's trial came about, Eisenhower regained some ground when he stated he would wait until after the Provisional Government to proceed with this, as the government does not need the instability from the trial. Furthermore, Eisenhower shot in the lead when votes were taken from both Thomas and Dewey supporters when Eisenhower stated he would use limited military intervention. An even larger shift happened when Dewey's supporters began abandoning him for Eisenhower when they agreed that not letting Thomas win was a top priority.

Eisenhower Elected Provisional Governor!

After an exhausting several weeks of debate, with the government system collapsed and the military lightly keeping order, the Provisional Convention has convened and elected Dwight D. Eisenhower as the Provisional Governor. Now referred to informally as "General Eisenhower", the people look up to him as a modern George Washington. As he parades through New York City, the temporary capital, he waves his hands and states that freedom has been restored. Later, while giving a speech to the city, he tells the nation that the upcoming years will be difficult. He cannot work alone, and he needs the cooperation of the people and their passion to build a nation of liberty. Using money pillaged from Browderville, he plans on rebuilding Washington and repairing the Statue of Liberty. Furthermore, he will protect the borders, limit the world's production of nuclear weapons, use diplomacy to protect American interests, and repair a free market economy. Also adding, he will not take a government salary, nor will he reside in the White House after its reconstruction.

Thomas E. Dewey, Age 42, Governor of New York. Proclaiming a root in rural America, he has stated he "works like a horse five days and five nights a week so I have the privilege of getting to the country on the weekend." He came to prominence when he was elected head of the New York Police in 1935. He became a hero for his fight against corruption and the mafia's violence. He earned the nickname "The Gangbuster." When elected governor, he doubled education funding and reduced debt by $100 million. If elected, he will expand civil rights, freedom, education, and foreign diplomacy. Also, as a large supporter of the death penalty, he promises to have Earl Browder publicly hanged. Wants an immediate trial for Browder. Wants to use diplomacy to bring down communism and fascism.

Norman Thomas, Age 60, protestant minister, socialist activist, and pacifist. After refusing to combine the Socialist Party with the Communist Party, Thomas was imprisoned by Browder and served nearly a decade in the Appalachian concentration camps. Before his arrest, he ran as the supposed heir to Debs. Returning to politics, he wishes to reinstate Eugene V. Debs-Era policies and the original Bill of Rights and Constitution until the people are ready to vote on changing them. Opposes the right to own firearms, stating that the 2nd Amendment refers to trained, military militia. Reluctantly supports helping Britain fight against Nazi Germany, but not without exhausting all possible diplomatic routes. Very opposed to communism. Wants an immediate trial for Browder.

Dwight D. Eisenhower, Age 52, Five Star General and military leader of the United Front. Led the army that defeated Browderist troops in Browderville. Organized the convention that would elect the Provisional Governor. Promises to restore order, stability, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and diplomatic and military standing in the world. Opposes nuclear weapons and wants to focus on stopping their production. Wants to wait until the provisional government is over until Browder's trial commences. Wants to use limited military activity and diplomacy to bring down communism and fascism.

Thomas will.(but dewey encourages freedom of speech, guns and civil rights

What makes you think that the right to own a gun is as important as the right of free speech, the right to organize and agitate and to participate in the democratic process ? Take away all these rights leaving you with only the right to own a gun, what would you have !?

If the gun rights people are going to go so far as to threaten America with another civil war ! They should be justifiably expelled. Perhaps to Iran or some other place where their dream of gun trotting violence has been realized fully.

But it does take the right to riot.

What need is there to riot?

If you want to change gun policies, it would be better to stay peaceful and protest to the government instead of storming city squares with guns and weapons. That is one of the reasons they took them away from the first place; killing/hurting innocent people because you can't have your own firearm is not how you should be taking this.

Dewey encourages a return to the barbarism of unbridled capitalism ! This was everything that America fought and left away in the past ! Now to replace one evil (Browderite Communism) you are bringing in another one ! Where's the justice in that !?

OK... How about this proposition:

Rollins Settlement

Named after interim Illinois Representative David Rollins (Nephew of Logan Whitmeyer, represents the people of Illinois during the current administration at New York)

To strike a possible deal between staunch gun control opponents and pro-control liberals, Rollins drafted the following deal:

Section 1
The ability to possess a firearm be withheld to all meeting any one the following requirements:
1) Being under 27 years of age
2) Has been found guilty of a(ny) crime(s) involving that person's use of a firearm
3) Is a known member of the Communist Party
4) Is a known member of the mafia in any American city, township, borough, or municipality
5) Has not been a citizen of the United States of America for at least 7 years.

Subsection 1: "Any crimes", as stated above, does not include crimes convicted of during the administration of William Foster or Earl Browder.

Section 2
Any one person meeting any one of the above requirements may submit an appeal to a special committee of 7 (13 if that county's population exceeds one million people, 19 if above three million) officials in each county, appointed by that state's governor. If the committee finds that that person deserves the use of a firearm and does not break requirements 3 & 4, then they are granted a special permit allowing them the use of a handgun for two years. If the committee finds that that person deserves the use of a firearm but breaks either rule 3 or 4, then their case is then sent to a state-wide committee of 5. If that committee finds the aforementioned person deserving the use of a firearm, then it is carried to a national committee of 9 appointed by and consisting of Congressmen. If this panel finds the person deserving of a permit, then that individual shall be granted the aforementioned permit. Any committee finding that person not deserving of the use of a firearm shall notify the sender of the appeal.

OOC: I will polish it up a bit more when I get home.

I also choose Rollins as sort of the "spiritual successor" to Whitmeyer when he dies, which will likely be during an upcoming election.

but it does take the right t riot

..... There is no right to riot. No matter who is in presidency rioting is always illegal. That's like saying the right to destroy public property or right to murder. Rioting is illegal and always will be.
