After reading that a bloke who had a small business closed it and joined a company doing a job he dislikes for the sake of having health care insurance, I am curious.

What would happen if all companies stated to their employees, right that's it health care insurance is costing us too much and you are now all on your own for your health care ?

Oh, and how many of you conservative types believe medicare and medicaid should be dumped ?
If you do not believe they should be dumped what are your reasons ?

The hostile tone doesn't help a good thread start.

If companies did that, then there would be opening for some companies to keep their insurance and the best workers would go to that company, so good for them.

Employer-based health insurance worked when the average American worker had 1, maybe 2 different employers in their life.

The average now is 8.

That is why employer-based health care is broken.

The OP said, "all companies", don't you listen? [pissed]

@OP, America would collapse.

I'd rather have health insurance via employer than paying an arm and a leg for my own.

Realistically Large companies wouldn't do that, as they realize it's one of the major ways they are able to remain competitive in the Modern American Job Market.

Now assuming all companies all at once dropped it... Then Companies would stop withholding the Employee contributions to their Healthcare making it slightly more affordable for the Employee to get his own Health Insurance. But since the Employee contribution only covers a small portion American coverage rates would drop drastically. Those that could afford it would get it, those that could not would have to live without it or with Medicare.

However, one would hope that the Health Insurance companies would decrease their Insurance rates to make it more affordable (just due to the large drop in the # of customers and as a result profit.)
