I know that the priorities of holiday's are different in the US, but I never really knew which one people in general feel is more important. Please vote and state why!

Hmm, forgot to post a poll. :crazyeye: Well, I was just going to use these:

Presidents Day
Easter
Independence Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas Day
Other

Personally, I like Thanksgiving. Christmas is a bigger holiday in my family, but always more of an ordeal. I typically like the atmosphere and pace of Thanksgiving a little more.

1) Christmas (religous part)
2) Independence Day
3) Good Friday
4) Veterens Day
5) Memorial Day
6) Easter
7) New Years Day
8) Ash Wednesday
9) Presidents Day
10) Palm Sunday
I wouldn't only give you one day. I just had to give you ten.

Thanksgiving. That's the time most likely to bring families together, regardless of religion, race, or country of origin.

Christmas and Easter are christian holidays, and not everyone here is christian.

Not too many people know what President's day is really about (and therefore don't think of it more than "another Monday off!")

Independence day is probably the second most important (to me), as it is a fundamentally American event, and the vast majority of people do understand its significance. But I put it below Thanksgiving, as it doesn't have the family tradition attached to it. Most people have a barbeque and get drunk.

Since I'm non-religious, I'd vote for Independence Day.

Though traditionally, the biggest deal is made of Christmas followed by Thanksgiving. Lots of seasonal stuff going on.

Oh, and you might want to add Halloween. For some strange reason, that seems to be an immensly popular one.

1. My Girlfriend's Birthday
2. Valentine's Day
3. Our Anniversary
4. Christmas (despite the agony.)
5. Halloween
6. My Birthday (this one gets lower on my list every passing year...)
7. Thanksgiving
8. Labor Day Weekend
9. Memorial Day Weekend
10. New Years Eve
11. Cinco de Mayo
12. Superbowl Sunday
13. (Gay) Pride Weekend
14. Seattle's Summer Solstice Festival
15. St Patrick's Day
16. Independence Day
17. Martin Luther King Jr Day
18. Earth Day

EDIT: Revised list to ensure many more happy holidays...

I personally like the holiday that falls around Robert E Lee's Birthday (January 19th). We our encouraged to celebrate our diversity. Might break out the Confederate Flag next year to test the "celebrate our diversity" theory. For those that don't know which holiday I'm talking about, it's the only one left, with the possible exception of Christmas, named after a specific person (Martin Luther King, Jr). Maybe we should take the hint from President's Day and just rename the day to the more generic "Diversity Day." Didn't bother to enter the "I Have A Dream" essay contest at work. "I have a dream that one day the University of Michigan will judge its applicants by the content of their character and the merit of their qualifications rather than the color of their skin" would have probably gotten me fired.

Some of these "holidays" that people are listing are not holidays per se. I don't know of any company that gives Halloween off, for instance.

Yes, but we only get two week's vacation per year!

Says you. Some of us get four weeks :mischief:

Occaisionally there is a federal (bank) holiday where businesses are closed by my school district is open. I like those.

I like the holidays that get me a day off from school :p

Seriously, I think that I like Turkey Day more than any other holiday because it is a time to come together and rejoice about what you have! Plus the mounds of food :D

Than:
Independence
Christmas
Presidents
Easter

Re-naming MLK Jr Day to Diversity Day is a fine idea. I would support it. I don't have a problem w/ it either way, but I can see your point.

1. Thanksgiving
2. Independence Day
3. (tie) Christmas/Easter
4. Juneteenth
5. Halloween
6. Cinco de Mayo

No offense, but the Confederate battle flag kinda ticks me off -- traitors, that's what they were, traitors. And I'm southern AND white!

The only three "holidays" i care about are, Independence Day, Memorial Day & Thanksgiving.
The other "special" days are fine for other people, just not me.

From what I hear, Belgians have a lot of religious holidays scattered throughout the year.
