Amirsan3- Diety Newb Attempt- Join!!!!

Each of us should do a little, "Why my start is best" shpiel after all the turnlogs have been posted.

I actually forgot to raise the lux before growing to size two which caused me to lose out on two shields. Nothing major there and it's really hard to say what start is best (unless one is completely butchered, like losing a worker, or not even improoving the beginning squares).

Basically, we're all scouting, checking out our landscape and looking for contact.

I guess, the 'best' way to start would be through whoever is closest to getting the granary out. We also have no food bonus tiles, so I'm not sure if we can turn out hometown into a settler factory, however, I'll have to work a few numbers to see how fast we can get a settler out (I don't imagine any quicker than five to six turns). It looks like to be heavy production with those bonus grasslands all around the river, which is also extra commerce. Again, nothing going to make or break the game, but a defidently early bonus.

We *do* have bonus food (game forest) but from what I've seen, I'm the only one with that in range. The grassland might be enough to make it grow, and we can't afford to lose time. This is Deity, after all ;). BTW, Belial, where's your screenie? I want to know where you founded.

Have to click on the link (still rather new at uploading, but I'll get the hang of it)

I founded on the hill as well to save the bonus grassland, I completely missed the game, and if we do get that, then we do have capacity to make that a settler factory pretty easily. Afterall, it is +2 food and on grassland irrigated, that's four food, I believe.

Edit: The more and more I think about it, we should probably use that game for the extra food to get our capital up and running vs. putting out a settler to make another worker/settler factory.

We're on a small map and we're not going to have a lot of time to grab all the land we want, so let's grab the best land we can as quick as we can.

Once we get out of Despotism :(.

You're right, that's in plains and not grasslands, still can't passup the extra food, though.

Be a pain to cut that forest down (might use the extra shields to put out a quick temple).

OK I'm here. I'll be analyzing saves in a bit.

My turn:
(0) 4000BC

Settler is on a BG. Don't want to cross the river because we'll be father away from the center of the map. Only move remaining that doesn't land on BG is the forest N. Move worker NW to check this out. Don't see anything to make me not want to move, so settler goes N.

Check F10 to see who we're fighting. Definite asian theme here. Note the following:
Korea - alphabet, bronze
China - warrior code, masonry
Japan - burial, wheel
Mongols - warrior code, pottery
Zulu - warrior code, pottery
Ottoman - masonry, bronze
Babylonians - bronze, burial

There is a good mix of techs in our enemies. Masonry and wheel are the rarest. One civ besides us has Alphabet (Korea) and two have Burial (Japan,Babylon). Pick Writing but cant research yet. Since culture linked starts are on I think we'll meet Zulu fairly early so pottery can be bought/traded.

(1) 3950BC

Delhi founded, start a warrior.
Worker starts road
Research set to min (20%),Writing in 40.

(2) 3900BC

{Hit Enter}

(3) 3850BC

{Hit Enter}

(4) 3800BC

Worker finishes road, starts a mine.

(5) 3750BC

{Hit Enter}

(6) 3700BC

Warrior1 built, start another.
Warrior1 E, sees cow on some sort of shore.

(7) 3650BC

Warrior1 E. I'm continuing in 4 compass directions unless something REALLY interesting changes my course. You just cover a lot more map moving along the X-Y axis.

(8) 3600BC

Warrior1 E. Water is salty, so this is the Eastern shore of our penninsula.

(9) 3550BC

Warrior S. Island or something is off the coast.

(10) 3500BC

Warrior1 S. See another gem and gold.
Worker finishes mine, SE.

(11) 3450BC

Warrior2 built, start another.
Warrior 2 N.
Worker starts road.
Warrior 1 S.
Slider 8.1.1 for Happiness.
End of our pennisula is spotted to the SE. This is a good position for Diety, in a defendable corner.

(12) 3400BC

Warrior 1 SW.
Warrior 2 N.

(13) 3350BC

Warrior 2 N.
Warrior 1 W.

(14) 3300BC

Warrior>barracks. This will be our military unit city, since it has no food bonuses.
Worker mines.
Warrior 3 W.
Warrior 2 N.
Warrior 1 W.

I ended up changing barracks to settler next turn.

I don't know how the GOTM staff keeps track of 200+ submissions. Between the five of us we have 3 different time points. Also, two people used my nick "CF" in their save game name.:crazyeye: I think if I ever am involved in something like this I would suggest "Play to 3250BC" and upload save game using "AM3_BC3250_yournick.sav"

If the filenames actually follow the game dates (I haven't opened them), we have:
Amirsan - 3350BC using my nick:nono:
Tsukemono5 - ? date not in file name but used own nick:goodjob:
Belial - 3250BC using my nick:nono:
Takeo - 3250BC using own nick:goodjob:
ControlFreak - 3300BC using my, err, own nick.:D

I am uploading my 3250BC save as I think that is the "real" 15 turns. If Tsukemono5 played to 3250BC as well, then Amirsan could take another 2 turns and play to that point as well for a true comparison.

I'll be doing my analysis today but I'm sure you guys will do the discussion this weekend while I'm offline.:( I'm OK with that, just don't make me "GOT IT" til monday.

EDIT: This File was already uploaded, I hope its mine and I forgot I did that.

And my last turn to go with the save:
(15) 3250BC

Change barracks to settler. I think it's important to get a second city on a food bonus so we can start making more settlers.
Warrior 3 W.
Warrior 1 W.
Warrior 2 N.

I think before we turn out beginning city into a military production city, we should focus on getting two to three more cities out of it. We still have that game tile within reach, although not being industrious will take a while to cut that down and irrigate it, but once it's done, it will help tremendously.

We could use those extra shields to pump out a barracks to make some archers to deal with the barbs.

I don't know if we'll have enough time to get another settler factory online, it will depend on how far our neighbors are, and since we're on a peninsula, I wouldn't think so.

I also don't think I played to 3250, which is fifteen turns.

I played to 3250. And as mine is the only save which conceivably could become a settler factory, if we do that, we should use mine. Takeo, you founded on a BG :nono:!

Ok, everyone has played and posted thier 15 turns. Now everyone must say why thiers is the best so us, the voters, can determine who to pick better. Then we will continue on from there. Please do not go too far ahead on our "settler factory" and our "military city" untill we actually decide the save to play on and NO threadjacking please, I will realy appreciate that ;). I will be on for most of the day.

Argh! I was working on a post for 1.5 hours and the server just ate it. _*(&_(*&)(&*^

It was something like this:
Here's a composite picture for better comparison:
AM3_compare.jpg

Commerce Takeo has the most gold. ControlFreak in second. This is important because on Diety, you need gold to make gold.
Research Belial is closest to getting a new tech, beating Amirsan and Tsukemono towards Pottery, presumably through better MM or better worker instructions.
Units All tied with three warriors, except Amirsan who had two.
Exploration Tsukemono has the most map, thanks to a kind goody hut. Belial is probably closest to the next civ, Takeo is pretty well tied for second.
Starting position My eaten post clearly explained why Tsukemono won this category. Basically, I used the scoring system:
:) = +1 points for BG on river, Gold mine, or defensive bonus of hill
:goodjob: = +2 points for game, gems
:( = -1 points for losing BG on river

Tsukemono had the most gain for the least loss (+1 on my point scoring). Amirsan, Belial and ControlFreak were even (0 points) and Takeo down a little by settling on the BG starting position (-1). :) = +1, :goodjob: = +2 and :( = -1.

Altogther, Tsukemono won or tied in three of the five categories and gets my vote for starting game. Belial came in second taking the Research category and extending an arm toward the nearest civ.

Amirsan's research and unit count is hampered by the fact that the save game was from 3350BC instead of 3250BC. In fact, if you could keep research going, you would be a turn ahead of Belial towards Pottery. Belial, your game was 3250BC.

I think we agree, I'd go with Tsuk's start as he has that game within the radius.

In all honesty, I think all the starts are fine, we could go with either start and still make out fine. I don't honestly think I'd have to argue my start when I think someone else has a better one. :p

Wow, I'm flattered :). With three votes for my position, I think that clinches it. Amirsan, do you want to do a lineup? Make sure to put me last ;).

Please keep in mind that I won't be back online until Monday. Put me in the rotation that will pick up the game early next week.:)
