And Here I Thought Welfare Moms Were a Myth

Well, is still comes off as an irresponsible social and economic parasite who happens to be an ungrateful :):):):):).

Yeah, the previous article portrayed her as only having a sense entitlement. This one portrays her as having a sense of entitlement and being ungrateful. I have a difficult time believing she never thanked anybody, though.

I'm still confused as to why people are talking about welfare when the woman in the OP isn't being supported by welfare at all, but charity from private organizations.

Because she's clearly representative of a much larger problem involving all poor people: they expect the rich to support them, if not through voluntary charities, then through involuntary socialism.

what choice do we have, but to support them? She has us by the balls. :) so to speak.

Let's face it, people know how to abuse the system. There really is nothing we can do about it. And more and more people are catching on. Eventually we may have to go to socialism, as no one is actually willing to work for a living. I'm kidding of course. That won't happen, why? Pride

Most people have pride. They won't want to beg for money/food whatsoever. Although... judging from what I see from young people in online games such as WOW, people have no problem begging for money. I find it pathetic, but young people see nothing wrong with making themselves look like a loser. But I still believe most people have pride.

The answer in my opinion is to publically shame these people. It probably won't work on people like this, but I think it will be more effective than doing nothing but complain about it.

Examples, perhaps? Anecdotes, of course, only counting for so much.

I doubt the government keeps track of such statistics. As for anecdotes, read the OP.

Anyway, I'm confused, you don't find people who game the system by having a litter of kids disgusting? Its not like you need a friggin constitutional amendment to address the issue.

I don't think you can say this woman "games" the system. She abuses it, true, but I think she is personally worse off than she'd ever be when childless.
Raising 15 kids is probably like working six shifts at once. I am quite sure she doesn't do this for easy money.
EDIT: Why she does it, I can't fathom. Most likely very low intelligence coupled with strong religious beliefs. Means she'd be popping them out the same even if there was no welfare whatsoever. Only in this case the kids would simply starve.

So, "no", and an irrelevant case? Not a strong argument for your position.

Of course I do, but, then, I am also disgusted by the Wendigo. I am simply able to tell the difference between what exists and what does not.

Essentially, what I am suggesting is that this... Caricature of a woman who deliberately fosters a brood of illegitimate sprogs with the intent of reaping the meagre benefits of government support is a myth. That's not a life anyone wants; you're doomed to virtual poverty, burdened for upwards of two decades by a litter of unwanted spawn and the labour which that entails, and, more often than not, shunned by paranoid reactionaries such as your good self. Rife as a paranoid loathing of the underclass may be in capitalist society, there's no reason to resort to what amount to little more than lies to bolster your position.
Certainly, the woman in the OP does not represent such a caricature. For all her faults, it does not appear that she set out attempting to use her spawn to gain a free lunch, or at least not a lunch that anyone could desire. She has a partner who fathered the majority of infants, indicating that her current situation post-dates at least most of the births, has far more children than such a plan could possibly demand, lives in virtual poverty and is, I would have thought was obvious, quite mad. She may be attempting to gain support for her current situation, not to mention showing sod all gratitude for it, but how one infers that this constitutes some nefarious scheme of exploitation is quite beyond me.

I disagree. I think it is a life that she wants. Why else would she do this? And don't give me that she's insane. She's clearly not insane. I think you guys are overestimating how hard her life is. I've know people with large families, the adult doesn't do everything. The older kids look after and take care of the younger kids. And especially in the case of poor, ignorant people, the parent hardly does anything at all. Do you really think she spends the time teaching her kids to read?

She doesn't ever have to work... ever! She's her own boss. Yes she's in poverty, but given her skill sets, she would have been in poverty anyways. And she would have to work a job that she hates. Now she never has to work. You don't understand how many people would love to never have to work.
