Ank06 - 3CC Conquest

Still we should have at least one coastel city. Not every pangea world is true pangea (e.g. no small islands somewhere)

I agree, but a continents 3CC conquest would be hard, if we don't get a ity on the other continent or so... lots of ships would be needed...

A coastal city will allow us to explore with a ship, always valuable. Plus in C3C you can make contacts earlier with curraughs.

To first players. City placement is critical in this game. Before anyone builds any cities, let's talk about it as a team.

Was planning on that, as I have at least read some 5CC and OCC succession threads before. However, with only 3 cities to place, is it better to build the other two cities right away, keeping one low as a worker factory and then disbanding it when a more strategic location is found, or is it better to just build 2 cities and keep the third one open until iron/horse resources are on the map?

In DI1 we had a very good location that we started in. Hopefully, our starting location will be good. We should settle that as soon as possible. The two follow on locations should be build for the best production. It will be important to scout the local area very well.

I think we can get IW and the wheel quite fast, so we can place cities after this knowledge. From my OCC experience (quite a lot now :)) one bigger city is quite formidable to keep up in terms of research and building. So no need to rush the city building. We have only build two at all.

Here we go.

Ank06 - the 3CC conquest. One standard pangea coming up :) All standard victory conditions enabled.

Notes:
Iron working is due in 13. This will give us an idea where we need to settle.

Entremont grows next turn and the settler is due in 2. I don't know if we want to complete this or swap to something else and wait for a while.

In terms of settling we are quite near the coast and so it might be an idea to have a coastal city incase we need to go hunting overseas for the last few AI cities. There is a cow by a river, but there is not much room nearby. The dot on the map below is on a hill and will get the cow and a game square after a border expansion.

I turned one of the exploring warriors around to explore the coast further to see if there is a nice city spot

Now for the pretty pictures.

This is one I took when I started

and this is the current situation

Red dot indicated a (possible) city site getting both the cow and game. It is on a hill but unfortunately not on a river.

Got it

[edit] were already producing a settler at the moment. Isn't this a little bit to early? We havent discussed the city placement, and i think we should delay it till iron (and maybe horses are availible. Can save us some colonies to watch for.
We have IMO two options:
1. Finisch the settler and build the 2nd town asap. Then i like to get some input where i should put the city. Because like Bugsy said it would be better when a city place is well chosen by some more people. I'am not a beginner, but not best player eigther on this board, and my limited city challenges this far were OCC, where city placement wasn't something to think about after placing the first one ;)
2. Delay the settler till we get IW, building the second city then and hopefully get the wheel while we build the 2nd settler.
I don't see a big drawback in some waiting. Our bigger town is for the next turns quite on par with several smaller ones.

Any opinions?

And Wall street would need 5 banks, so you would need to keep the city for longer than to the end of the turn.

actually, in conquests, you need stock exchanges, not banks, to build WS.

Yes, the title can be quite misleading ;)

But back to the city location. I made a 3000BC map with two suggestion i would go for, when we try to settle asap.

Neither of these seem to be jumping out and screaming "Settle me!".... so with IW in 13 turns I suggest we jump on that. Possibly switch to granary in the interim to aid in our cities growth, and since we'll probably want some workers to hook up distant resources / luxuries.

Then again, I'm the one who hasn't played an XCC game before, so I half expect to be wrong.

I thought the settler was to soon, but it is there if you want it, otherwise it can be swapped to a barracks (we need to upgrade out warriors) or granary (as Entremont is on a river growth is nice).

The idea behind my dot is I hate to see unused cow's, especially on a river, and as it takes in a number of mountains we might get iron there.

Looking at yoshi's dots the red dot is nice and gets us a second luxary (there are furs in dem forests) but if we settle there we would want to put the third city on the coast north of the red dot and NE of Entremont. This will keep all our cities in a close group and make moving our forces between them easier.

I definately like building on hills where ever possible as the defensive bonus is handy

edit: The best plan of all is to wait until we know where the iron is before building the second city. In a perfect world we will have iron in the mountains near Entremont and we can settle anywhere. In reality I expect the nearest iron will be halfway across the contenent

O.k. i switch to granary. Your dot isnt bad eighter, but we have to look for another site for a usefull coastel city. Can be discussed later, since i wont have to settle during my turns.

mongols are up masonry, alphabet, mysticism
americans are up masonry, mysticism
zulu are up nothing ;)

Considering most of the terrian near us are hills and mountains we should have some iron close by. Just

hopefully not in the middle of a mountaincluster.

It looks like we have ocean both north and south, which gives some more options for our coastel city.

Still the best position would be somewhere north. Too many mountains in the south.

Otherwise nothing exiting happend during this turns, no trades, no new contacts. At least we know now

the position of one of our foes (Zulu i think).

No picture, since still no knowledge about our iron
