Ank06 - 3CC Conquest

Yoshi's dotmap

Ank06_3000BC_dots_yoshi74.jpg

Red dot makes nice defensible location. With roads in the mountains, cheap defenders can funnel attackers to killing fields both north and south. Didn't notice furs at first but they are nice bonus. And don't y'all think there ought to be iron in them mountains?

Nice start, guys. :goodjob:

Yes, nice start. :)

I'm very busy today, so I'll get to check this better the soonest tomorrow, but as a quick glance this looks good. :)

Some tough choices here for city sites. The fog area north of red dot might be a good area for our coastal city. It might be interesting to see what is there.

With all those mountains we should have iron nearby. That will probably determine where our inland city goes.

Edit - BTW, I got it.

Oh, in answer to Yoshi's dotmap question: Yea, a lake can be saltwater if it's over (IIRC)21 tiles.

Preflight – 2550 BC – Change Entremont to a warrior for more exploring.

Mongols have Masonry, Alphabet, Myst
America have Masonry , Myst
Zulu have squat.

Can’t touch Alphabet yet, so we’ll have to wait.

1. 2510 BC – Strolling into Zulu lands. Find Mongolia. Lux to 20%, science to 60%.

IBT – Asked to leave Zululand. Yeah sure.
Entremont: warrior=> warrior

2. 2470 BC -
IBT – IW comes in. And we get a scientific leader!
That’s a first for Bugsy. [party] [dance] :band: <= that’s me on guitar

3. 2430 BC – We have two iron sources one NE of capitol and one SW. The fog to the west reveals two cows. We can have a very powerful coastal city there.

I suppose we will keep our SGL for wonder in the near future. He’s fortified in the Capitol for the time being.

Trade IW to Mongols for Alphabet & 10G
Trade Alphabet for Masonry with America.
Trade IW for Myst with America
Sell Masonry to Shaka for 35G.
Start a 40 turn gambit on Math.

IBT – Entremont: warrior=> warrior

4. 2390 BC – Lux to 10%

5. 2350 BC -

IBT – Entremont: Warrior=> Settler(6)

6. 2310 BC -

7. 2270 BC - *yawn*

8. 2230 BC – Incense is hooked up. Lux goes to 0%.

9. 2190 BC -

10. 2150 BC – Wake up and write report.

After Action Report: The red dot looks pretty strong, 4 BGs, two cows, and a hill on expansion.

The second city is a bit more problematic, and we should probably wait until we know where the horses are located. Some possible locations have white dots.

Keep on eye on the diplomatic channels for any deals on the wheel.

Nice turns Sir Bugsy. We seem to be a little blessed with two iron sources nearby to choose from. It seems that AndrewN had an uncanny knack in finding the iron with his suggested city location. Both that location and the one that Sir Bugsy has marked by the cows and BGs seems inticing, but we probably should wait for horses to be sure. I'm wondering, though: do we settle an city for the iron now, or do we still wait for horses, hoping for a 2-fer? That location with the two cows and 4 BG seems to be under a little bit of threat from the zulu settling, as it would be a 2nd/3rd teir city from them. Then again, the southern iron city location that Sir Bugsy has marked seems to be in about an equal amount of threat from Zulu expansion.

I would like to wait for horses to come up, hopefully getting a city that can connect both resources; then again, I don't know how much time we have left to wait.

In a 3cc, we're going to be under a lot of threats. We need to pick our best spots and let the chips fall.

Maybe we should change the thread title, its very misleading. I did my turns in PTW.
Maybe Bugsy have to replay his turns. Darn, just after an SGL from IW :(. Never seen this before.
As for horses. Maybe we are lucky to trade for the wheel till we build our second city. But with one position (with the iron) is quite nailed and the other must be a coastel city i dont see much flexibility even when we knew where horses are. But fortunatly we don't need horses till our enemy have knights. I the OCC conquest we had on the small map we didn't even encouterd horse- and swordsmen. So when we pulling this fast enough no one will have knights at all. Our GS are already mini-knights :)

Horses aren't really necessary for us as our UU has a move of 2 and we will need to wait until cav before they become essential. I think we should settle our two cities ASAP.

That coastal sopt with the two cows is an excellent spot for one and the other could be either my dot or Yoshi's as they will both get the iron inside the borders after expansion.

I favour Yoshi's spot as it is a closer build (but no overlap) and gets a second luxary inside our borders.

As for the spot I picked, I didn't know where the iron was, I was just looking for a place to pick up the cow.

Both positions (The cow site and the furs site) have their merits.

The cow site has the better bonus resources and more usable hills.
But it lacks on fresh water.
The other spot has less hills, but a river. The furs arn't the biggest pro, since they are right close to 2nd border expand from the coastel city (which i think can't find a better spot). But it brings the dyes slightly closer to our borders.

Hard to decide, which is the better. Both are good. Maybe someone should do some real calculations, or flip a coin ;)

I agree, the city site decision is really hard... only 3 cities, we must place them carefully. :)

Hey, so it's about a day and no word word on what's going on...

are we waiting for Bugsy to replay his turns? Or are we waiting for Genghis to "got it"?

P.S. @Bugsy, congrats on your GotM 28 finish, saw you at 42; i'm about twice as far down the list tho

Ok, here's the deal:

Bugsy, you should replay your turns in PTW.

If he doesn't reply in 24h, Gengis can do it.

:)

Oh, sorry everyone. I thought I was done here for a while. I'll replay in PTW.

No problem...:)

Maybe we should put "PTW" in the .sav name to help these situations become more rare? :)

It is possible to change the subject line of the threat? Would help as well. Some lurkers also thought it was conquests because of the title :)
