Pre-flight – 860 AD - We’re at war with Mongolia, America & Carthage. We have five turns left on a MA with Germany against Mongolia. No other MAs.


Dial up Hannibal. He wants 180G for peace. Stick it in your ear. Abe on the other hand, will not only give us peace, but will pay for it. Abe must hold those MAs with Hannibal quite dear. But he won’t give us a tech?

Building roads over the eastern mountains…good move. How else can we get our cats over the mountains.

Entremont is starving, but can build a knight every three turns. We’ll keep that going for a while. The other two cities won’t be getting that many shields for a while. At least until steam. There are some serious stacks of ruins across the land. I wonder what DI1 would have looked like if we played it in PTW.

So after a good long study of the situation and the game, I think I am finally ready to play.

IBT – We fend off a Cathaginian knight at the saltpeter colony. About three Carth settler pairs head our way. Mongols want to talk. What? no techs? Stuff it.

1. 870 AD – Start building the roads over the mountains.

Kill a NuMerk sitting on our furs, promoting the knight.

Abe still won’t give us a tech.

IBT – No attacks. A Mongol LB approaches our troops around Dalandsomething.

2. 880 AD – Kill a NuMerk sneaking into our lands.

Move into position to attack Kansas City next turn.

Pillage some American lands with a GS.

IBT – The Mongols and Germany sign a peace treaty. Not so fast Mr. Bismark.
A Carth knight kills our musket on the salt colony.

3. 890 AD – Kill a Carth knight escorting a settler. Two more slaves for our collection.
@ Kansas City – kill one spear.

Kill a Numerk escorting another settler. Four slaves now for our collection.

Pull Germany back into our war for furs, 20gpt & WM. The furs deal can’t be broke since he has Astronomy and we both have harbors.

Hannibal’s price for peace is coming down. Now he wants 120G. Let me kill a few more units there Hanny baby.

IBT – Kill two attacking Carth knights. Abu wants to talk. He wants to sell us his WM for WM & 10G. Not now.
Watch an American longbow kill a settler escort and collect two slaves.

4. 900 AD – Kill another Carth knight.

Finally have our cats into position next to Dalandsomething.

@ Kansas City – Flawlessly kill the reg spear. Another is defending.

Kill the wounded American LB.

Abe still isn’t reasonable. Neither is Hannibal.

IBT – America and Germany sign a peace treaty.
A Carth knight kills our GS
The palace gets a third story.

5. 910 AD – At Dalandsomething: knock a hp off the vet spear defending.
4/4 knight kills 3/3 spear (-1hp)
4/4 knight kills ¾ spear (redlined and promoted) City is razed.

@ Kansas City – 4/4 knight is redlined with the 3/3 spear not losing a point. Then in a tremendous feat of courage, our redlined knight comes back and defeats the spear. Kansas City is razed and a slave is captured.

Maneuver some knights to assault the next city. Defended by pikes.

Abe will now give us Chemistry for gold in a peace treaty. Let me think about it while I set up to attack Memphis.

We should be able to roll up the Mongols in another 10 turns.

Turn 5 (con’t) – Buy Shaka’s WM in hopes that he has some data on Mongol lands. It appears that these idiots haven’t hooked up their horses yet. Check in with Temu and sure enough. Despite having his horses right next to his capitol, he hasn’t hooked them up yet. So unless we want to see Keshiks, we need to continue this war until genocide.

6. 920 AD - @ Kazan: 4/4 knight kills 3/3 spear (-1hp)
5/5 knight kills 3/3 spear (-3hp) city is razed. Collect another slave.

@ Darhan: 4/4 knight retreats from 3/3 pike (no loss)
4/4 knight kills 3/3 pike (-2hp)

Peace treaty negotiations are going poorly. Hannibal increases his demands. Abe is an idiot, so I move some knight next to Memphis to attack next turn.

We’ll wait for more troops, send two knights that way.

I tell Abe that I have troops approaching his cities and he offers up a worker, 17gpt, WM & 30G. How about a tech? No. What would the price be? 262G for Chemistry. Dude, you are in the hurt locker! There are already three American cities that are pink.

So what do you say now Mr. Lincoln. Chemistry for 102G in a peace treaty. We can do that.

Carthage will now give us a straight peace treaty. :hmm: I can buy banking for 20gpt, 221G & WM.


IBT – A Carth knight knocks off the hero of Memphis.

10. 960 AD – Maneuvering for Ulanbaatar and Tabriz. Lose a knight to a Carth Musket escorting a settler to steal our salt. Kill him with a second knight.

Lose a knight attacking the murderous knight at Memphis.

After Action Report: Our combat workers are building roads to the front.

Thanks Ankka. I think this game is going to increase in intensity in the very near future. The AI are going increasing restless.

I'm not going to have time to finish it in my alloted 50, it is the weekend after all. Either skip me, or I'll have it done tonight.
 
Flight Check Military check: 5 Muskets, 4 cats, & 15 Knights. Not too shabby, we need some more defensive troops to hold down our colonies, and our cats upgraded.

We’re at war with Mongolia & Carthage.
We’ve got: Peace with America (19)
Alliance with Germans, give furs/20gpt (13)
Get 10gpt from Arabs (10)

Tech race: Up- Aztec, Zulu(multiple techs each) & Mongols(Education).
Down- America/Carthage(Banking, Astronomy, Metallurgy), Germany(Music Theory, Banking, Metallurgy), & Arabia(Music Th, Bank, Metal, Astro).

My plans: We have more then enough troops in the west to take out the Mongols. I’m going to start siphoning off troops to send west, all new troops will also head west unless something unforeseen happens. We’ll know the Mongols back to a city or two, then let the Germans take them out so we don’t take the rep hit. The reason I want our troops in the west is because we need to capitalize while there’s a ton of inter-AI fighting over there. Here’s a shot of what’s going on in the west & why we need to get a force out there.

Switch Lugdunum from Knight to Cathedral, and rush(220g) so we can turn off lux next turn.

T2- We were forced to renegotiate peace with Abu last turn. Since we’re looking at 19 until we can go after him, I buy Banking of him for 20gpt & 480g. This will still allow us to extort Astronomy/Metal from Carthage, and we can get banks down now.
Switch all cities to banks.
Start on Economics with a scientist in Alasia.

IT- America & Zulu sign a peace treaty.
Our Knight & saltpeter colony in the west is overrun. Good thing we have a couple more.

T3- Elite Cav retreats from pike, -2hp to pike.
Elite Cav retreats from pike, -1hp to pike.
Vet Cav kills pike,-3hp & promotes. Razes Bakumdo(or something. I should really write down the City names before razing them). Get 2 more slaves.
Shaka is down to his last city, which I’m hoping Biz will clean up this turn to get us out of a 20gpt payment.
Shuffle around troops to set up strikes on Biz when he takes out Shaka, and move some troops west.

IT- Nada.

T4- Take out a barb camp, get 25g & a promotion!
Position 5 Knights & 2 Muskets next to Hadrumtium.

IT- Musket killed off by Carth Knight.

T5- Kill off a Numid. 2 more slaves in the bank.
Elite Kn dies to musket, redlines it though.
Vet Kn dies to Numid, redlines it.
Vet Kn kills Numid, -1hp & promotes.
Vet Kn kills Numid.
Vet Kn kills musket, -2hp. Razes Hadrumtium, we get 6 slaves.

IT- Carthage begs for peace.

T6- More troops shuffling around & praying for Biz’s eradication.

IT- Copernicus finished in Damascus(Arabia).

T7- Another 25g & a promotion.
The last Zulu city is defended by a spearman, and the Germans still haven’t killed him.
I send some more troops back to the west. The German’s army outnumbers ours, but they have no saltpeter, iron, and are just getting around to connecting their first horses(which coincidently will be the first city I raze) so I’m not expecting much of a problem. It will be an exercise in promotions & dodging longbows.
Our alliance is up in 6 turns, so either way Biz’s days are numbered.

IT- Nada

T8- Rush a bank in Alasia(112g).
Kill off a Med Inf, -2hp to knight.
Catapults are back in Entremont for upgrade when we get Metallurgy, I’m guessing we won’t need them against the Germans to take out spears.

T9- Declare war on Aztecs. They have 2 cities in my way that I want to raze, and no chance of counter attacking us.

*Alliance with Biz is over in 3 turns, cancel it before you take Mongolia out.
*I have troops set up to take out Bremen, Stuttgart, and Korokium as soon as the alliance is over. When Korokium falls, so does there horses.
*West: I’m marching south then around the circle of enemy cities. I’ve been using our Saltpeter colony to heal at, but once you get farther away you’ll need somewhere different.
*I’d build another musket or two to take with the war pack.
*NOTICE!! There’s a Numid 2 tiles SE of Entremont, he’s been hiking around our territory forever, but I can’t even try to take him out till he gets off the mountain. Bait him with a slave or something.
*I’ve got workers chopping forests on our border/where ships can drop off enemies. That way we don’t have to give them good defensive terrain when they enter our land.

woohoo! nice turns Genghis! Very good to see the Celtic nation continue to contend for regional dominance (okay, so world dominance may have to wait, but I'm sure Bede will get us off in that direction).
