@R8XFT: I've been tinkering around with some Indian flavoured tech icons. I'm not sure yet what I want to post, and what to work on more. If there's anything in your tech tree you'd like to have with a South Asian look, let me know. Right now I've got lots of raw material and ideas, but no focus.
I went ahead and posted a Rice Cultivation Tech Icon.

This might give you an idea of the kind of icons (although the visual style would vary) I can come up with (C'n'P with some editing).

Edit: I've got large & smalls done for Sailing (or any other ship advancement tech), Vedic Physics, Buddhism, and one appropriate for any kind of public entertainment (Folk Epics?). Partially completed are Alphabet (featuring a Harappan seal), Diplomacy, Dentistry, Dharma Yoga (a tech that could embrace several religions like Buddhism, Jainism, and modern-style Hinduism), Vedic Transmission (appropriate for any political or culture related tech at the point in time of the transition from orality to literacy), and Shivpuja (a tech associated with the lingam shrine improvement).

The rice icon is nice (I've posted in its thread); the others you've suggested sound very good too.

Any comments about Nalanda University (re. my last post)?

Newton's University in vanilla Civ3 comes in the Middle Ages and doesn't become obselete. Then there's also Copernicus's Observatory which does the same thing and comes at around the same time.

As for the question on who could have it, I'd let all the Indian civs have the ability to build it. :)

I've not yet put in the Indian part of the tech tree ... What I will be requiring in terms of techs are techs which would need to be discovered in order to build the buildings you've suggested ... also, something for elephant warfare.
As I posted, at this point I'm just tinkering around with the tech icons. I don't expect every building I suggested will end up in AD; at the time you're working out that part of the tech tree maybe I'll be able to help suggest a tech name that will cover the game aspects you want covered, and hopefully have an icon ready, or nearly so.

I had a strong desire to make an elephant warfare icon, but held back because I wasn't sure you were thinking in terms of a separate tech. If you want each Indian civ to build the Gajadhyaksha Camp (elephant barracks) as a straight improvement maybe there could also be an Indian flavoured Wonder (L or S?) like a Temple of Ganesha that would autoproduce an elephant unit, or perhaps give exclusive access to build an advanced elephant unit. For an icon would you prefer one adapted from period art, or one more modern (based on a screenshot of a museum piece or filmed image)?

In terms of the Nalanda University wonder that Ogedei made, could that be a late wonder that any Indian civs in the game could build (but only one in any one game) - or should it be unique to one Indian civ?
Any comments about Nalanda University (re. my last post)?
And why would it be a late Wonder? As I undertand it, the University flourished from the 5th to the 12th centuries.
You can't really have a Wonder that is active for three out of four eras, though - it could be overpowered.

rifleman has the time frame right; I think that gives you the freedom to place it in whatever era you want. I understand Plotinus' concern and Ogedei's counter argument both. My own opinion is to let it be balanced by equivalent wonders in the other culture group, and choose for yourself when or if it should expire. I'd let any Indian civ be able to build it, but only one per game. From what I can tell one Indian university tended to predominate during a given era, and Nalanda was definitely unique during its time .

Thanks for the info on Nalanda University. I'd actually put it in after Scholasticism in mid-era 4; the effects being that it gives 2 free techs then carries on being effective, as it also gives +50% research. I don't want to put that any earlier, it's intended as a late catch-up/tech push wonder.

Another tech icon I've been working on is one based on that enigmatic Harappan bust (sometimes erroneously called the Priest-King). I've been thinking of using it for Mahajanapada (the Indian government, equivalent to Oligarchic Republic, that elects rulers for life who are answerable to a council of advisors). I don't remember if you were including culture group flavoured gov'ts or not.

PS Does anyone know how to switch my keyboard back to european or croatian or whatever, i pressed something, and now when I hit Y I get a Z and vice versa, and punctuation signs are all messed up. Help!
Right click in Windows toolbar, select "toolbar" in the menu, then language bar

I think...
I've got a French version of Windows and I'm not sure of the translation of the menu

Nice, although I don't believe for a minute that Boudicca looked like that...
...but she probably will in BTS when it comes out for Civ IV.

Quick update guys: I wasn't very well this weekend, so couldn't sit down at a PC for long and didn't actually do anything on the mod. However, I hope to dedicate Monday and Tuesday to it next week and that should be about enough time to sort out the basic version I spoke about. I'll let you know my progress next week.

I hope Redalert shows up again soon.......(Crosses fingers)

:Shows up:

Hi, I'm here :)
I've been way too busy to be online lately, or to work on the indian cities for that matter. Hopefully things will settle down for me this coming week and I can get back to work.
