I just started driving for Uber & Lyft and was wondering if anyone else does this. The pay isn't very good but you can work whenever you want. I've only been doing it three days so no wild stories yet. My roommate also drives for them. Any tips from either other drivers or passengers?

I use Lyft. Drivers who are friendly and can carry on a conversation; have a clean, somewhat late model car; play background music on the radio (or have it off); help me with my bags; wear their seat belt; and drive reasonably well will earn a bigger tip and get a 5 star rating.

do not show up in Turkey . Seriously , it's known you guys are all Zionist agents or at least funded by George Soros .

From a passenger's perspective, I feel safer with drivers who stay off their phones.

Thank goodness we now have distracted driver laws here.

I have not used Uber yet, and rarely use Taxis.
But I've once sat in one, and while we were driving to our destination, I noticed something at my left leg. Turned out the driver had a baseball bat next to his seat. I guess there was a reason for that, and it's probably not a bad idea.
(okay, that it was late night on a Saturday in Warszaw makes the situation probably a bit different from yours, but anyways...)

I've used the two services around 400 times over the last four years. I've used Lyft more because both my school and work have deals with Lyft to offer free rides. From what I can tell, Lyft has a better reputation. This was true even before the Kalanick scandals. Drivers tend to tell me that Lyft is more likely to treat them like humans. Drivers have also told me that Lyft passengers tend to be friendlier but that's probably hard to generalize. Lyft has long had a tip feature which Uber only recently incorporated. I tend to give 25% and have almost never given a driver anything less than 5 stars.

From my understanding, you can do a few things to make more as a driver. The lux/premium/black car drivers earn 2-3 times more than regular Lyft or Uber X. Obviously, that's not helpful if you don't have a qualifying luxury sedan. Drivers have also said going after the surge zones can be a waste of time since other drivers will follow along and which kills the surge by the time you get there. Instead, if you know when a surge will occur (you know a concert will end or that the bars close at 2), it's better to sit there and wait for it to arrive. In some cases, you can help induce the surge by logging out of the driver app and logging into the passenger app (which will help you verify that the surge is occurring) and then logging back in. By logging out of the driver app, you help build up demand and avoid getting called before the surge arrives.

Drivers also tell me it's good to bring lots of snacks and water bottles for the ride. I'd guess you can maximize tips by doing a few things. If you have extra water bottles or mints, it feels luxurious for the passenger even if they never touch either. Additionally, people like it when they get to DJ so it's good to either have an aux or just ask them what they want. Lastly, I tend to (probably subconsciously) tip the most after a good conversation with the driver so being appropriately talkative helps.

Really depends on how well the driver reads the passenger. Sometimes they just don't want to talk to the driver and it's best not to force a conversation on someone who isn't up for it. Also, avoid controversial subjects unless the passenger brings them up and even then tread lightly.

One driver asked me where I worked and what my company (at the time) was about and when I told him he responded that my work (trying to get humans to Mars) was an affront to God. No idea why he thought that was an appropriate take on the subject, much less why he thought it would be cool to share it with me. Another driver driver made hilarious dick jokes with me about the conservative members of SCOTUS for the whole ride (this was the day they legalized gay marriage) after correctly feeling out my stance on the subject but that just as easily could have blown up in his face.

In my city here 99% of my uber experiences have been a 9/10 or better. In comparison, about 70% of all my cab rides have been a 7/10 or better.

Tips? Keep your car clean. If I want to talk, talk to me. If I don't want to talk, give me some space, man, and just take me to my destination. Other than that there isn't much too it, from a passenger's point of view

And most important, NO BO

Maybe he's a JW.

I'm reminded of the time back in 2001 when I spent several weeks in the hospital. I struck up an acquaintance with another patient - an 85-year-old man who turned out to be the father of one of my former classmates in elementary school. Since spending time with elderly people doesn't scare me, it was nice to have someone to talk to... until the conversation got around to the space program.

He said he was Jehovah's Witness, and didn't approve of going into space. He figured it was just wrong to do that, and didn't even blink when I pointed out that some of the knowledge gained from decades' worth of space-related research was being used to keep him alive.

Right, that's what I meant by "appropriately."

I also work in the space industry and a driver once spent the entire ride telling me how aliens exist and how the government is concealing it from us. One of his most interesting claims was that when they dropped the S-IVBs on the moon, the seismometer showed that the moon was hollow and therefore an alien space station.

In another situation, I mistakenly mentioned to the driver that I occasionally had sleep paralysis. He spent the entire ride convincing me that I had experienced a visitation and that I need to embrace the spiritual energies.

Now that's an interesting writing prompt...

Feel free to use it for any contest I'm not part of. It's just that I don't think I'd be able to force myself to write anything worth reading, given such a prompt.

Unless you think unremitting mockery would make a good story...

(seriously, have a look in the Doctor Who thread down in A&E, specifically the Capaldi story in which the Moon was revealed to be some sort of egg; I consider that one of the dumbest Who stories ever)

I drive for both. Drive well #1. Act normal #2. Be calm #3.

Honestly, you are going to want to get a better job. They are consta fly cutting pay and now so many people are doing it that it is hard to get rides. Don't take my word for it, read this:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.th...8/mar/01/uber-lyft-driver-wages-median-report

If you have a truck or SUV then spend $50 getting a nuclear density gauge license and you can pretty easily get a job for $20-$25 an hour working as a soils technician. Nothing but a high school diploma needed.

MAGA Hat > Cabbie hat
Dose uber pay more if you have a nicer car ? Couple of friends drive for Uber they say its ok depends where/when you want to work I think they make regular money driving at more busier locations other says not much money out in the suburbs
Theres demand for rides on weekends and odd hours. If you want casino or bar work I suggest getting an on board camera and carry a truncheon.
