Arckons Next 24Civ Pitboss game; details and discussion here

This is bad news.

What is really strange is that you once again are the first who get the "no leader" screen. I don't think this is coincidence.

Perhaps Arckon should restart the server and you should be the first one to login. Set the turn timer to one hour or less if possible and play several turns. Perhaps we can reproduce and maybe find a solution for that really exhausting bug.

I am ready to try this or any other solution that makes sense. Is it possible it has something to do with my firewall? I got GData 2007 version. But I completely turn it off whenever I am trying to login. I am playing another (Whiplash's) pitboss with no problem.

EDIT: I just uninstalled GData and the problem remained exactly the same. So that doesnt seem to be the problem. Another idea: I am connecting via a router. Is it possible that the router blocks certain ports that are needed for this game but not needed for the other pitboss game I am playing?

Yes, the blank screen is back for me too.

Maybe we should tackle this by way of elimination. Could we make sure that EVERYONE has this problem. That way, we can probably discount hardware on the players' side as the cause, seeing we all have different PCs and configurations.

To eliminate the host's hardware as a problem, I can only think of someone else test-hosting for a couple of turns. This would be a sclep,so maybe someone can think of a better way.

I do not know if it is significant but, with me, the problem reared it's head, both times, after I had completed the 1st turn and tried to log on again.

Also, maybe the log files can tell us something. Does this happen every time after a certain player has connected? Or after a certain player trieds to connect?...for the 2nd time? Or after a n-th number of players have connected?

Just some thoughts...

Hey, now I know why my score is 20 more than everyone else has. I have Palace in both of my cities!

Meaning 8 extra commerce per turn:crazyeye: Nice to have them, but probably not quite right:rolleyes:

Ouch!

I have no idea how that happened, but it will be fixed by Saturday, lol.

This is very peculiar as I have changed nothing since you guys logged in successfully last time.

Since we are, as I type, still in the first turn, it is not a turn cycling issue.

The no-ip program is working and getting updates from its server, so it isnt a firewall or connectivity issue on my end.

I am not sure what to say except that I am leaving the game up till everyone can connect well and without interuption.

FYI, I just tried logging into the game and got the same problem. This would really suggest a server side problem due to those of us who were logging in just fine and then all of a sudden we can't.

Could it be a map problem with either Plattfuss' nation or the person who logged in immediately prior to him? Hell, maybe fixing Dan's nation will make the problem go away after all. ;)

Same here.

It is not sure it is a server problem. It could be someone corrupting a file somehow.

Stupid question but are we all using Warlord 2.08? Also are we all loading the mod before connecting to the server?

Arckon, edit out the extra capital of Mali. The original save file must be corrupted if one civ has 2 capitals. It might well solve these log in probs.

Yessirreeee, got in fine now. Tks a heap. Arckon.

I've had this error as well and although I am not sure, I suspect it might have to do with the following:

I have 2 versions of Warlords on my PC: one with the 2.08 patch and one without - since some games were already running when the patch came out and the majority of players did not want to risk installing the patch.

So I think I got this error when I tried to connect to a "patched" PTBS running the "un-patched" version of the game. OR. Loading a "patched" PBEM saved-game into an "un-patched" version of the game. (or vice versa).

As said, I had this error before and can't quite remember the details of how I got to it. But I do remember, when getting this error, by reverting to the other version, I did not get the error anymore.

Well, not sure that will help but maybe the patch/version avenue is a possibility to consider.

I am assumung everyone is running the patched version of the game 2.08.

Just from reading it seems we get the empty civ choice screen after we have logged in once. Is it keeping stored info on our machines on the host server. I am only able to get error I get after it seems to have been rebooted. Just my two cents.

The events as I understand them are these:

The game starts up fine with everyone able to log in fine.

After logging in once, and re-entering the game, the leader screen has disappeared. But is this true for all of us or just a few?

I would like to see everyone try to log in twice in a row to determine if this is a problem from relogging or if something becomes corrupted in the game file by another player or simple time elapsing.

Right now, to me, it looks like one of our players has a bad version of the game and is corrupting the file on my end somehow and then no one else can see the leader screen.

I am editing the map to fix the 2 capital problem in Mali, but I doubt that is the cause of the problem.

Game is now restarted from start on turn 1.

Lets also try to exit out via the main menu too. Last game we all did that, I think, and we h ad no problem with this sort of thing. I dont know if it is the problem, but maybe we could be mindful of how we exit out also to see if it has an effect.

Kammi and I have entered and exitted the game several times with no problems.

So what the difficulty is I am not sure.

I did save the game and saw that the save was mapped to the old folder on the other drive.

I am wondering if the game auto-saves after a period of time and that causes the bug to be re-introduced, despite starting from the c: drive.

Oh well, just let me know if everyone is having problems again.

Exactly into which file is the mod supposed to be installed............?

You have to put it in the Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Mods Directory in that way that you dont have the earth24 directory twice in the hierarchy.

correct:
...Mods\Earth24\Assets\...
...Mods\Earth24\PrivateMaps...
...

[wrong]/replaced by "incorrect": (Thank you Conquistador for correction ;) )
...Mods\Earth24\Earth24\Assets\...
...Mods\Earth24\Earth24\PrivateMaps...
...

Ok, connected............loaded up and got in at took my first turn. I did have the MOD installed "incorrectly", though I think that was only part of the problem. This morning I almost got in but for it crashing just as it was finishing the final data transfer. So I went over how my other mods were installed and found the earth mod wasnt in the proper folder. Thx

BTW 20hrs plus left on clock first turn 4000 BC
