Are "Civ" players also "Pirates!" players?

Are you interested in Sid Meier's Pirates!, Firaxis's next release?

  • Yes! I'm not really a Pirates! fan, but I'll try it because it's a Sid Meier game.

Was a big Pirates! fan back on the C64 (as well as Seven Cities of Gold). Will definately buy and play.

I always loved Pirates!, one of the true classics, and I'll pick up a copy of the new version for sure, without waiting for the reviews. Kinda like the Civ-series, anything Pirates! can't be bad.

I heard about it, but don't know the original, sounds fun, but is maybe just not my type of game

I am like the other unenlightened people who have never played it, but the concept seems extremely interesting, so I'll look forward to it…

I played it a ton back in the day and can't wait for it to be revamped. Any chance for a multiplayer carreer option? :)

I might pick it up simply because of Sid Meier's name tacked onto the beggining of it, although I never played the first one.

My only suggestion: Lose the exclamation point at the end!;)

I played it on C64. It ruled! Gimmie gimmie gimmie! I want it now!

I can still remember the thrill of sacking Puerto Bello and finding that BOTH the Silver Train and Treaure Fleet were in town at the same time, making me one helluva rich pirate.

We need an : envy : smilie. :)

Contrary to my name, I've never played it, nor do I know what it's about. I've heard of it before though. For me, the fact that it is by the same people that put out CIV warrants some extra attention.

Ahh, played both of those on C64. Im 28 now, so i guess i was early teen then. Sing it "Memmmoriesssss....."

I recently downloaded a C64 emulator and played pirates again. It was magic! Can't wait for the new one. I also played "Pirates of the Caribbean" was an ok game, too much must follow the story, not enough freedom. But there was a way to create some freedom.

It was the 2nd game I got for my Commodore 64, and still ranks as one of the best games ever, in my opinion.

Please make sure to keep:
Marriage/Romance options (it added a neat bit of roleplaying and color- imagining myself charming the ladies and picking up bits of information on the Treasure Fleet)
The "what eventually happened" ending (did I do well enough to become Advisor to the Monarch, as Drake was? Or maybe just settle off in Virginia as a rich farmer...)

Both those things are kind of 'fluff', but they make the world and the role-playing element so much deeper...

Played it on my 8086 and loved it. It's probably the only upcoming game release I see that'll drag me away from C3C.

Loved pirates, AFAIK I played it on the Amiga though it was a while ago...

Lots of gameplay, only bugging thing about it was sailing against the wind!!! And those maps to find the hidden treasure, far too easy, just get the manual out and use your orienteering skills.
//added

Good time to bring it out too, not too long after the Pirates of the Carribean being released...maybe this is some sort of masterstroke from the marketing dept ;)

Getting all four Incan treasures was even more amazing.:king:

hadn't heard of it before now but it sounds good I will get it providing it can run on my unreliable computer (one of the advantages of civ 3) mind you I have been dissapointed by other pirate genre games. Seems a good time to release to cash in on pirates of the carribean and all that malarky

EDIT: As already pointed out above

Avast, ye scurvy dogs! When ye git tha game shipped out ta tha masses, I'll be playin' it. Now git yer lilly-livered hide back in tha office an' git back ta werk, afore I make ye walk tha plank!

Arrrr!

I wish I could, but I doubt that'll happen. I guess I'll have to wait for it to appear in stores. I loved the Amiga version.

I've never played it but it sounds like fun.

If anyone's interested (and just happen to have an emulator), I remember downloading Pirates, the Amiga version a while ago. There's probably more versions out there, but if the thread has caught your interest, it's out there to be tried ;)

Bing !!
I was a Pirates player long before I was a Civ player.

And yes, Jeff, I'd buy a Collector's Edition.....but you already knew that :D
