Are we still getting this new era?

I just don't want to see Incan Mech Inf staring at my gatling guns and riflemen while I'm trying to blast to Stealth.

I believe the new era was said to be post-industrial. Since most of the previews have been based on a build of the game that only went to the Renaissance, it actually makes perfect sense that we haven't heard much about it.

But as Arioch said, it's pretty much irrelevant anyway.

It can only be two places, post renaissance or post modern. In the pax preview the narrator says that the attila portion is right at the end of the industrial era around the early modern. Therefore it goes industrial modern still. Add in that his tech was WWI infantry at end of industrial and it seems industrial has gained techs. Considering placing a new tech era after modern would be moronic as few games matter there post renaissance makes sense. It makes even more sense if you remember Ed Beach's eras of interest.

Also Attila has three spies in the Second part of the demo. One for renaissance, one for new era, one for Industrial.

That...is some very good deductive reasoning. Well played, sir or madame, well played. :hatsoff:

I thought we very specifically heard that we aren't getting a new era, but instead a large extension of the Industrial Era?

No, it will be a whole new era. :)

I see it like this in military unit viewpoint:

Medieval era - pikemen, trebuchet, galleass and so on

Renaissance - musketman, cannon, lancer, frigates, privateer

NEW ERA - riflemen, gatling, ironclad etc.
Maybe its called imperial or something

Industrial - WW I units

could you provide some sort of source for that? Cause I'm almost positive they said it was just an extended industrial era

all of the great war stuff is tacked onto the end of the industrial era...

edit: "..there isn’t a Great War era, so to speak, we just used that terminology to describe a class of units. We have, however, included a new era in the tech tree to help us stretch out the post-gunpowder world a little further."

never mind...I guess you're right, though as had been said, we haven't heard *anything* about this

I agree with this.

I hope they actually have a new era, for the sole fact that if Order/Autocracy/Freedom is supposed to play a big role in diplo, I'd want them to come earlier so they can have a longer, larger impact. Plus if they're that supposedly important, I'd want the full trees to be a little easier to explore during your average game. (How often do you actually unlock an Industrial tree before winning unless you're going culture anyways?)

Pretty often, actually. But then again, I play beyond OMT.:p

Unless I was going for a culture win, I have never fully completed any of them. I've thought they need to revamp this if they plan on making Freedom v. Autocracy v. Order the new major diplo-effector.

Ah, you got me on a technicality you slippery person!

I guess I should have asked how often you unlock the tree and it matters. I've tried unlocking Autocracy and literally never been able to do it before just winning anyways, let alone having the bonuses come online early enough to make a large difference in the game. To be fair though, I have completed Order for culture wins frequently and for a couple of science wins after finishing rationalism and grabbing Scholasticism.

That's indeed the argument that a new era would come after Industrial, to give the last three Social Policy trees a chance to develop. There must be extra techs in what is now early modern, because we know there are additional versions of infantry, tanks and planes.

I looked at the new techtree and...
Architecture is a renaissance tech?
AFAIK architecture is as old as civilization itself.
Aren't the Pyramids,Great Wall and Hagia Sophia with all other pre-renaissance wonders examples of "Architecture"?

Well, yes and no. The impressive engineering science aspect of architecture existed since the dawn of civilization. The art aspect of architecture came about a bit later. I'd put it at Classical Era rather than Renassiance (for Europe at any rate). The Ren was more of a revival of older styles.
