Are you ready for the madness? NCAA hoops thread

I think our collective office pool brackets just exploded.

I took Baylor, Kentucky, K-State, and Kansas. At this point 3 out of 4 ain't bad.

The good news is this means Ohio State has a wide open path to the final four if they can get past Georgia Tech tonight.

The bad news is this makes Kentucky the prohibitive favorite, and I hate Kentucky.

Judging from how they act, is Kentucky now more hateable than Duke?

This year's squad? Absolutely. We're going to need maybe 4, 5 years of slimeball Cal before we can properly elevate Kentucky's program again though.

Some assorted Sweet 16 thoughts....

Cornell is really really good, and if they had a different matchup (say, Duke), they could possibly win a region. Kentucky's athleticism will prob be a problem, but I bet Cornell's team is going to be a hell of a lot smarter (not just because they're all ivy league kids, but they do a great job getting high percentage shots...and kentucky's team is really immature).

I hope I'm not jinxing my boys, but all that is left in the Midwest is a highly beatable Tennessee (OSU has had their number, beating them twice in March in the past 5 years I think), Michigan State without their best player, and Northern Iowa, I like Ohio State to get to the final four. NIU would be a really tough team to face though, with their relentless D.

Syracuse looks AMAZING.

WVU was damn lucky to win. I dunno how many saw the game, but Mizzou missed 8 free throws and clanked dozens of wide open threes. WVU missed easy shots and didn't rebound so well until the last few min...it was MU's game to win. They just didn't. Kentucky would crush them if they play like that again.

4-5 years? Kentucky will be on probation by then and Cal long gone to another program.

As a Cornell student, I have to say that Cornell is playing the best basketball of the season by far. They are just making really good decisions. But I'm very worried, because I saw Trevon Hughes and the guards of Temple drive to the paint fairly easily when they really wanted to, and John Wall is way way better at that than they are.

The game is in Syracuse though, and Cornell plays really intelligently. We need to stay in the game, and not get frustrated by some of the breaks that athleticism gets you (blocks out of nowhere, breakaway dunks), and just let them make freshman mistakes.

Let's hope Ryan Wittman and Louis Dale stay hot, and that Jeff Foote can draw fouls on Demarcus Cousins (although I think Patrick Patterson is better and will be more of a problem - no one on our team can match up with him even a little bit.) If we can frustrate them, I think we win.

At least he was spot on about Cornell being man-handled by Kentucky.

I think it's going to either be Duke or Kentucky.

The MADNESS is back, thank god. Last year was almost all chalk. Even if Duke wins it will still have been a pretty crazy tournament.

I still can't belive that Ohio State lost that one! Even though they lost, they played a good season, and I think that Even Turner is going to be in the top three picks this year, along with John Wall. Hope the Final Four is good though.

Watching Evan Turner get stuffed at the end of the game is the highlight of the tournament so far.
