Asia Buildings Pack 2

1. Changdeokgung Palace (wonder graphics)
That's Koreea's specific wonder in my mod. Now i can use the right graphics. Gotta put it in the next patch ... Also it'll get my vote of course.

Two questions:

1. Do you think some of those Korean and Chineses buildings would be useable in my scenario/mod or do you think some random Japanese CivFanatics member would decapitate me for it? What it boils down to is, are they too strictly rooted in their according cultural circle or are some of the ambiguous enough to also use as Japanese buildings? If there are some that are, I'd appreciate it if you could note them.

2. Are you taking requests for new city sets? If so, I'd definitely like it if you could make a different feudal Japanese city set to use for my scen/mod. Now, of course I will be using the other one as well, but I wanted to get the scenery to be a little less monotone and add some variations here and there. Preferable would be a city set that suits the northern regions of Honshu best, making them look a little more barren and desolate (of course not too much so, since there should still be signs of life hehe). If you don't have time to take on this request, could you at least tell me how I can make it myself. What program do you use? And more importantly, how does one get all the city graphics centered on .pcx file so that they are in the right place in game (this has been bothering me with my cut and paste projects)?

Any help at all is highly appreciated!

1. You can use a lot of the buildings in a Japanese-themed mod, even the Buddhist temple one. Some buildings in Japan are actually modelled after Korean buildings since architects and specialists in early Japan were Korean, descendants of Korean immigrants, or trained by Korean professionals (who were either abducted by Japanese or were dispatched by the Korean court to build diplomatic ties). Two exceptions would be Changdeokgung since it was plundered and damaged by the Japanese not once but twice (during the Imjinwaeran War and then the Japanese occupation period) so that remains a sore point and the Korean ancestral shrine, which is uniquely Korean. The coastal fortress might be unusual for the Japanese too since they were used to keep out the Japanese to begin with and Japanese fortification systems were more different to that used on the mainland.

2. I've been thinking of doing a new Japanese city set for some time. I have enough different buildings now so I might get around to it. :) The graphics programs I use are Bryce and Photoshop 7. If you're having problems centering city graphics, I'd suggest using the "City Graphics Template" although I don't recall what thread it was...

Thanks man, that helps me a lot! So I can basically use everything except for those two (maybe three) buildings. What about the Chinese ones? Do you think they'd also be useable without some Japanese nationalists jumping down my throat? ;)

I see, so you had already planned another city set for Japan! That is like music to my ears my friend. I will also try my luck at it with your new advice on centering them. Thanks man! :goodjob:

I think using some Chinese buildings wouldn't be a problem. There are also distinctly Chinese-style buildings in Japan. :) Using some Chinese and Korean buildings in a Japanese scenario is far better than using European or Middle Eastern placeholders (such as the awfully generic "Sengoku" scenario that C3C shipped with :crazyeye: ).

By the way, you wanted me to make some Korean popheads if I remember quickly. Anything special you had in mind or should I just go at it?

If possible, I'd like Joseon period style popheads in particular with the distinctive "gat" tophats for the male figures. Also have the male figures without a mustache and beard since I'll be using it also for an elven civ in the "Annals of Seven Kingdoms" mod aside from the Korean civ in the historical mod that I've been meaning to do. For the specialists, the male entertainer should be one of those folk festival performers with the tasseled hats and the female should simply be a gisaeng woman with a prettier hanbok dress. ;)
