...ARE RAPING MY EAR. I mean, they could have been used as a form of torture back then and 2k just didn't know this. And I'm not biased because I'm a Asian myself. But serious, some of them are REALLY REALLY terrible.

Most unwanted: That's piece of music that keeps playing when you are at playing as Siam and at peace. Every time I hear it I have a sudden urge to quit my current game, load a new one with the AI playing as Siam and raze all of their city.

P.S a lot of Civ 5 music themes are terrible or very forgettable.

(1. Using "rape" in a context like this = necessary?)

2. I guess this is very much based on one's taste, so it's unlikely to get a very good discussion about this. But could you, you know, try to describe more specifically what about it is so dreadful? I don't mind the Civ5 music myself, it's not mindblowing but is enough to convey the feel of the setting.

3. Have you tried lowering the music volume? It's an option.

OMG, that was the track I talked about.. I just hate it so much. It keeps looping and looping and looping and every time I find bit of my soul die a little inside. Yes, it's really that terrible..Well, I agree that everyone have different taste and you guy probably have enough with all the whine but I wish they actually did find some more memorable music.

The only piece of music in CiV that bothers me is one Asian peace music that has that woman singing by herself. And that's because there are a lot of words in that song that sound like Finnish words and it breaks immersion when I hear songs about sausages and market rebellion...

That song isn't bad but honestly..... I wish I spoke Finnish by now.

ON TOPIC: Certain songs can get a bit tedious if I hear them too much in one game, but overall I like the Civ songs a lot, even the asian ones. My personal favs have to be Catherine's and Napoleons war themes.

I suggest playing the music from its directory directly using a media player in the background. That way you can obviously remove tracks that drive you nuts.

IIRC, that's Thai.

You can remove them? I didn't know that. So there are a folder named music or something like that? I gonna delete all those annoying squeaking sound. Thank you a lot Piece of Mind. :D

Asian themes are the best. No other areas hold a candle to the Asian tracks.

P.S.: A lot of Civ 5 music are really good. Keep up the good work Firaxis!!

This. I thoroughly disagree with the OP. The music in CivV is, IMHO, extremely well done. Even though some pieces start to grate on me eventually (there's one part of the Japanese peace theme that I think gets awfully loud), the amount of work put into making these different themes sound "correct" for each Civ is very much appreciated.

I really share the feelings man, when I got trapped at this song in my Mongolia game I was almost gonna hang myself. :faint:
Asian theme songs are good in general (especially Indian songs) except that irritating "Holy Water Vessel" song.

But rather than songs, I think overall theme needs an adjustment and should be sub-categorized for the sake of ethnic diversity in game. Hearing Indian music as China or Thai music as Mongolia is incredibly demotivating in my opinion. Europe or Middle Eastern music traditions may not be significantly different from each other in the eyes of developers (which is total nonsense) but obviously Asian music traditions are far from being in one categorical distribution.

I just say this because Civ V music setup is very unique and motivating in terms of role-play but with a little adjustment it can be perfect. ;)

By far my favorite song. I'm not sure what it's about, probably her water buffalo died. Deeply evocative in any case.

I find it jarring and vaguely insulting that when you play an Asian civ you randomly hear music from any region in Asia. Do the developers think we are such hicks we don't know the difference between China and India?

Actually it is weird repeat tendency of song. I don't know it is a bug or not but every time I try to change it by activating different music (by clicking ctiy states etc.) it starts over and over again.

Yea unfortunately it bugs people a lot. I prefer not think the possibility of ignorance or prejudice against Asian culture in developers' mind but it is rather a practical choice in my opinion. That is to say, you either create unique musics for each civ or you create categories and put civs on it. The problem is that continent based culture categorization is not enough to satisfy people and it is the easiest way to be honest.

It is also possible that we are getting tempted by the idea of micro-cultural and ethnically diverse civilization game. That could be the reason of our greed on more unique textures, musics and so on... After all, love is a selfish emotion. :groucho:

I mute the music and play web radio.

The in-game music is admittedly more dynamic, but that's a double-edged sword, when you're talking to 6 different civs in one turn and the music feels like it needs to change for each one. When the high-speed is up and running, playing (plugs!) Technicolor Web of Sound, or Overclock Remix Radio, or Marsden Global, or another station, works just fine most of the time.

No, they just have limited resources.

The ethnic regions in Civ V are a bit wonky, but they're better than nothing and more practical than having every Civ with unique artwork and music. While aesthetics are important, there are simply better things to invest into when developing a game.

Nevertheless, the composers still managed to produce two tracks for each civ working on a theme researched from that nation's history (even Ancient Greek and Babylonian melodies). I don't know enough about all the musical cultures to say how accurate they are, but I think it surely counts as proof that they really did make an effort with this stuff.

As for the regional soundtracks, and cirty graphics, I think it works well enough as is, even if India is a bit of a stretch. Songhai is arguably equally stretched, and while I hope there are African civs to come (and justify an African cityset and music :)), not making a whole soundtrack for one civ is excusable.

I'm glad for the diversity we've got (and wish it would extend to unit graphics), and while more would only be a good thing, there's little point getting upset about something that was almost certainly a practical limitation.

Unless you're already playing at deity, play at a higher level and you'll be at war so much you'll never hear Siam's peace music again.

Isn't there a setting that lets you turn down/off music whilst keeping sound effects on?

My opinion: All the Civ5 music is really good.
