Ask a Christian

How hardcore christian are you, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being superhero christian, 1 being christian in name only)?

What do you say about the contradictions in the bible ("eye for an eye", or "turn the other cheek") or the fact that Christianity was created from pagan religions?

One is from the Old Testament, the other from the New Testament.

If you read the OT, you see God making a deal with Abraham, God will give Abraham a nation, and his descendants will show the world who God is by following Him.

Much of the rest of the Old Testament is Abraham's descendants flaking out of the deal, and God asking them to come back, which of course they don't.

God gives up and starts a New Deal. No longer is there a requirement placed upon the people to behave a certain way. It was all handled, fixed. The Old way is gone, the new one is valid.

Spoiler :

The time is coming," declares the LORD,
"when I will make a new covenant
with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah.

32 It will not be like the covenant
I made with their forefathers
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they broke my covenant,
though I was a husband to [d] them, [e] "
declares the LORD.

33 "This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel
after that time," declares the LORD.
"I will put my law in their minds
and write it on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.

34 No longer will a man teach his neighbor,
or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,'
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest,"
declares the LORD.
"For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more."

Why is anabaptism not accepted universally throughout all Christian religious practices? It only makes sense to baptize children when they are old enough to want to be baptized willingly and with complete understanding of what is happening.

I didn't allow my children to be baptized. There did so when they were adults. It was hard, though. Most of my friends did it when they were pretty young.

So are you denying hel rules over niflheim? Hel is the daughter of Loki and was thrown down in niflheim by the gods because of her grotesqness.

And heroes dont go to niflhiem. Anyone whos read about norse mythology knows about the halls of valhalla. Heroes are brought to valhalla by valkyries and there they fight and kill eachother in battle but are revived at the end of the day.

I never spoke of Hel the goddess, but Hel the place. I only highlighted the differences between Niflheim and Hel.

As for the heroes, who knows? The first level could just be a second-rate hero place.

The Scale of One To Ten:

1) Clueless
2) Newbie, clueless, but God is awesome
3) Getting it, sorta
4) Get it, and I am cool
5) Get it, I am cool and you suck
6) Got it and forgot it
7) Got it, forgot it, and am in trouble, I suck
8) Remembered it, got bailed out of trouble, God is awesome
9) Got it, I suck, and God is awesome
10 Got it, and we all suck, and God is awesome because He knows it and loves us anyway.

Then heaven sounds boring, and unappealing.

Consider this: Christians say that activity on earth, which was created by God, is a shadow of what is to come in Heaven. The Bible gives examples of the relationship between husband and wife, and says it shadows the relationship between Christ and the Church. Many things are shown in this example, harvest, giving birth, weddings, dying...

So, if sexual orgasm is the shadow, what is the real thing in heaven?

If drinking is the shadow, what is the real thing in heaven?

P.S. Only fundamentalists talk of such things!

Wow. Lots of posts. I'll answer best I can in several posts. :)

Have you always been christian?

As long as I can remember. I was born into a Christian home, so it was relatively easy to find God. :)

what is your proof of gods existance?

I have none. You can't prove or disprove God without seeing him. However, I believe God exists based on evidence I have seen in man's character, and the prophecies of the Old Testament.

Are there cats in heaven?

Why would God create an animal only to have it rot into the ground when it dies? I say there will be animals in heaven, but I can't give you a definite answer from scripture.

What denomination?

I don't care much about denominations, but I am attending a Presbyterian church.

What do you say when people accuse you of being brainwashed?

I follow what I believe to be true. You can't blame me for that.

How can you still follow a religion that is the #1 cause of suffering in the world?

Some Christians cause suffering. I hope I am not one of them.

Do you believe in other forms of magic than god?

Depends on your definition. I believe in the supernatural events of the Bible, but nothing more than that.

What is your opinion of fundamental christians?

Do you believe that by having a 'stronger' (less doctored) faith they will be seen of more highly in gods eyes?

An open mind is very important when seeking truth about anything, especially God. But I can't say for sure how God feels about it, that's just my personal reasoning.

What makes someone a Christian?

I depend upon God's mercy and Jesus' sacrifice for the forgiveness of my sins.

Please describe the sensation you feel when you feel that God is answering one of your prayers.

I feel like I am in the universe for a reason. That my path in life will be used bring greater good to this world. I feel important, and I feel chosen.

Why are you so terrified at the prospect that there may be no purpose for the universe?

I am not terrified of anything.

How does one experience Jesus, or the Holy Spirit? More specifically, why do attribute your divine experience to the Christian God?

I began a search of truth, to discover the purpose behind the universe we live in. My search led me to belief in the Christian God, as the true power behind everything.

Why do you believe in God? What makes you think the bible is true?

See my first answer for a basic answer. :)

Why is anabaptism not accepted universally throughout all Christian religious practices? It only makes sense to baptize children when they are old enough to want to be baptized willingly and with complete understanding of what is happening.

I believe baptizing infants or adults is valid. Baptism symbolizes entry into a covenant relationship with God, and to baptize an infant represents the prayer that God will lead the baby to a true relationship with him.

How hardcore christian are you, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being superhero christian, 1 being christian in name only)?

I don't know what you mean by "superhero" Christian. But since I have devoted my life to the service of God and other human beings, I would say 10 for really dedicated.

I think Jesus and Mary Magdalene may have been married . . .

As an opinion, not a belief or anything. And,

Why are you so terrified at the prospect that there may be no purpose for the universe?

I have never met anyone who was Christian only for that reason. I for one could function just as well without the purpose I believe the universe has.

I think Jesus and Mary Magdalene may have been married . . .

As an opinion, not a belief or anything. And,

It certainly wouldn't contradict anything belief-wise, but it seems unlikely she would earn so little mention in the Bible if she was Jesus' wife.

I was being flippant.:D

Perhaps, but who was the very first human being who saw him after the Resurrection?

I am full of opinions like that, don't mean a thing one way or the other.

Well, this is the closest I found looking through your other post. If you had something else in mind, please direct me to it :).

I believe God exists based on evidence I have seen in man's character, and the prophecies of the Old Testament.

Can you please elaborate on what evidence you have seen in man's character, what prophecies in the Old Testament you are talking about, and how you know that they have been fulfilled?

I'll search for the more in-depth post concerning the prophecies I made a few months ago. I'll edit it in for you. :)

As for man's character, when I analyze the ways of this universe, morality does not seem to fit with the naturalistic and barbaric processes that govern day-to-day survival. Yet all humans have a basic moral law, a sense of self-sacrifice and altruism. It appears transcendent of our natural world, and leads me to believe in a source beyond basic natural processes.

Also, our origins lead me to believe God exists, or at least some force beyond our natural world (example: the First Cause/Mover argument in philosophy)

EDIT: Found the link to the prophecies post

Why didn't you?

Well, if you just came back from the dead, being the first person ever to be resurrected, who will you visit first? If your wife is alive, wouldn't it be her?

It's just speculation anyways.

I thought she went to the tomb to embalm his body.
