Ask a Christian

Please describe the sensation you feel when you feel that God is answering one of your prayers.

I don't get a sensation. Its more like this: I pray for something, and when it happens, I consider that prayer answered. Why do prayers sometime not work? I don't claim to know fully, but I think faith in God and that He will answer plays into it. That is based on these two passages:

Mat 17:20 He said to them, "Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you."
Here Jesus is saying that faith is a powerful thing.

Jam 1:6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
Jam 1:7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
Jam 1:8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Here James is saying that we shouldn't even expect anything to happen if we doubt it will. Have faith, but no doubt.

Have you always been christian?

I know this is specifically for the OP, but I thought I'd share my story.

I was baptized a Christian, but then my entire family then started practicing Judaism. We practiced it for 1 and half years, but soon, I, with my dad, converted back to Catholicism and have now received my First Communion and been Confirmed. My sister and mom soon followed.

What makes someone a Christian?

Generally, the belief in the triune Godhead (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) and the saving power of the death of Jesus Christ. And the Bible says to confess this with your mouth:

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Interesting. Why the change to Judaism. And why the change back?

My dad was angry with the Church on their view of homosexuality. And he was the dominant one in the family, so I followed.

We went back because Judaism was not the right religion for us. Now, I like being a Catholic.

Why are you so terrified at the prospect that there may be no purpose for the universe?

Have you always been christian?
No, I am still a relitively new Christian. However I was baptised as an infant in a Catholic Church, but I did not get into practacing my religion after I rediscovered God three years ago.

what is your proof of gods existance?
Personal experiance and a belief in God through his Son, Jesus Christ

How about that Mary Magdalene? :groucho:
She is just a saint and one of Jesus's folowers. I dont believe in the Da Vinci Code crap, Mary Magdalene never had relations with Jesus nor did she had children.

What denomination?
Roman Catholicism, Latin Rite.

What do you say when people accuse you of being brainwashed?
I shrug it off because I dont see it as so. I have been exposed to many viewpoints and I am able to make my own choices.

How can you still follow a religion that is the #1 cause of suffering in the world?
As for this Trolling Question, I would humbly state that this is not so.

Do you believe every human being that does not believe in Christ as his/her savior goes to hell?
So long as they have lived a good moral and/or holy life that they would go to heaven if by no fault of their own did not hear about Jesus.

Do you believe in other forms of magic than god?
No, Magic is just an illusion. And Yes, I watched a segment on the Discovery Channel about magic ;).

What makes someone a Christian?
In a nutshell, a belief and acceptance that Jesus Christ is their lord and savior.

Is there open bar in heaven?
No, I highly doubt that God would allow drunkenness in heaven.

HAHA! Pardon me for laughing, but switching from Christianity to Judaism because of the Churche's view on homosexuality (I'm guessing He doesn't like that the Church is against it). He didn't check out the Torah before He switched then? Because the Torah (part of the OT) says to stone homosexuals. At least the Church is a bit more forgiving.

I am not. Not at all. Why do you have these ridiculous prejudices?

Thus the post wasn't directed toward you, but those who have this belief.

How does one experience Jesus, or the Holy Spirit? More specifically, why do attribute your divine experience to the Christian God?

So long as they have lived a good moral and/or holy life that they would go to heaven if by no fault of their own did not hear about Jesus

So you believe that those who have heard about Jesus but are not Christians do not go to heaven even if they lead moral lives?

And another question (to any answerer). Do you believe that one can be a true Christian (by whichever definition of a true Christian you use) if they dislike the church as an organization?

What do you say about the contradictions in the bible ("eye for an eye", or "turn the other cheek") or the fact that Christianity was created from pagan religions?

What do you say about the contradictions in the bible ("eye for an eye", or "turn the other cheek") or the fact that Christianity was created from pagan religions?
The "Eye for an eye" is from the Old Testiment of the OLD JEWISH LAWS! The "Turn the other cheek" is a replacement of the old Jewish law of an "eye for an eye". In no way are therir contradictions within the Bible.

As for your second trolling question, No. Christianity was not created from pagan religions. Insted Christianity was sprouted from Juadism.

Im not christian but i can prove you wrong on these particular ones.

1. This particular one is not a contradiction. Eye for an eye is from the old testement, and turn the other cheek is what christ says. Christ was speaking the new word of god.

2. Many things from christianity have thier roots in pagan beilefs. But it was not created from a pagan religion.

As for your second trolling question, No. Christianity was not created from pagan religions. Insted Christianity was sprouted from Juadism.

True, but you cant deny many elements of christianity come from pagan beliefs.

Heres one:

Hell comes from the greek underworld called tartarus. Tartarus is identical to hell in everyway. It is a place for evil doers after they die.

How does one experience Jesus, or the Holy Spirit? More specifically, why do attribute your divine experience to the Christian God?

Because he's the one I'm praying to and worshipping and honoring. I suppose Vishnu wouldn't be so keen on granting miracles to those who pray to the Christian God.

As to your first question. Difficult to give a clear, cut answer, for those who have observed an obvious miracle it would be easy to answer, but for your average Joe, not so much.

I feel that when I live a moral life I am rewarded with good things happening and generally feeling happier (as if I'm being blessed) and that when I live a morally corrupt life I feel depressed and bad things keep happening, as if the blessing is taken away. (NB! In no way way I'm I saying this is proof of God)

Have you always been christian?
Yes, all my life. I've actually second guessed my faith before though.
what is your proof of gods existance?
The proof is that the world exists and functions today. That God saves lives everyday.
How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?
Why don't you ask God?:p
Are there cats in heaven?
I would think that God is more of a dog person.:p

Seriously, I see no reason why animals wouldn't be in Heaven.
What denomination?
None
What do you say when people accuse you of being brainwashed?

How can you still follow a religion that is the #1 cause of suffering in the world?
I can tell you why I'm not attracted to atheism, statements like these. I'd rather believe the most obscure faith in the world than to be like this.

Please describe the sensation you feel when you feel that God is answering one of your prayers.
Thankfulness, joy, relief, just overall happiness.
Do you believe every human being that does not believe in Christ as his/her savior goes to hell?
I don't believe that everyone of them go to hell.
Given we've been over this topic about a million times, why do you feel this uber-redundant thread is necessary?
If you look around you'll still find quite a few misconceptions about Christians.
Do you believe in other forms of magic than god?
No, but that's more of the skeptic in me than because of Christianity.

What is your opinion of fundamental christians?

Do you believe that by having a 'stronger' (less doctored) faith they will be seen of more highly in gods eyes?
The Bible says that people who boast about faith are hypocrites, and that the people who do not are favored by God. This makes sense to me.
