Holland Accused in Opposition Activist's Suicide

Human rights activists say many European countries are afraid to give asylum to Russian opposition activists for fear of jeopardizing relations with Moscow.

They also say the Dutch government might be particularly wary of stirring up trouble during the “Year of Russia in Holland,” which runs throughout 2013.

Yo, any dutch fashion publications I should check out so that I could blend in better?

(cue ridiculous scene of me walking around in haute couture style clothes trying to look inconspicuous)

If I were you I'd take a look around a busy Dutch city centre in Google Earth street view instead of reading a fashion magazine. :)

It is actually pretty easy to distinguish Dutch people from German ones by their clothes/the way they look, I've found. But it is hard to explain what to look for, it is a bit of an X factor.

So, some people have a German-dar, you say?

Repeated from IRC:
<Takhisis> is there any non-electronic Dutch music worth listening to?

How rude of me! I totally forgot.

The thing is, I don't think the electronic Dutch music is worth listening to (being the old fart I am), so there might be a severe difference in musical taste issue :)

No matter, I'll just list some of the bands who's shows I've been to, heavily furnished with some random more familiar picks.

Julian Sas live at 013. (blues)

Peter Pan live, also at 013 (rock/metal)

Of course, the brilliant Anouk

Go Back to the Zoo

Kyteman

Racoon

And if I may, a little trip across the border. Easily one of my favourite bands. The excellent TRIGGERFINGER from Belgium:

And proof that a Rihanna song can be good

What is the point of the Netherlands?

Swiss Mercenaries, 1.4.1 for 30 shields, Seafaring and Agricultural, and they play in a nice shade of orange instead of the usual hideous shades of pink. All in all a well-rounded civ I'd say.

Also, electronic music.

During the beta the Dutch were definitely over powered. My favorite game was playing the Dutch and having 4 starting food on the capital city tile, where all the national border lines were missing the gray part (they had the team colors), and the AI valued bombarding so much that if they had a frigate next to your borders they would declare war just to bombard a road.

At some point in that game I had war on two fronts and was defending about 7 cities with 3 Swiss pikemen and no other troops.

Would be interesting to hear a bit about that :D.
I cannot really see any differences though :dunno:.

For metal, there's Within Temptation (link, was even played on MTV, during the day [at the time when there was music on MTV]), Epica, Delain, After Forever, The Gathering, Imperia, Legion of the damned, Heidevolk, and some others...

Try something that always works for Americans:

Shout "IK KEN MIJN RECHTEN DIT IS EEN VRIJ LAND"

I think "That's discrimination, I'm going to bring you to the European Court." will sound more scary.

At Vodafone I've been told that there's apparently an exception for Germans and Belgians, so that was also solved :).

Oh, with a few Germans and other foreigners I have quite a bit fun with trashing the Dutch cuisine :D.
Why does a country, which exploited India for all the spices, use no spices at all while cooking :shake:?

Good. (No Luxemburgians?)

Dutch cuisine? Traditional Dutch food (I can only think of various stews) isn't held in high regard, but there is defintely fine cousine to be had.

HM. Indonesia = East India. And ofcourse, the spices were mostly for profit. But pepper and nutmeg are definitely used. (As for pepper, there is a term peperduur, i.e. as costly as pepper - teuer wie Pfeffer.)
