Ask A Homeschooler

What the crap????

I've barely posted, I've been trying to leave most of the thread to current homeschoolers (Though I do probably know as much about it as any of them;))
I'm going to guess that he really meant me, and that the avatars got to him.

Between both of you you have 20% of the posts in the thread, so, yeah!

I'm a Methodist who has been taught with a decidedly Pro-Baptist, Anti-Catholic curriculum, but, through the use of critical thinking, I typically don't believe in the Anti-Catholic statements they make. I know that the Catholics had a rather rough history because of the Inquisition, but I know they aren't really THAT awful. Heck, there some Catholic teachings that I actually believe in.

Wait, I thought your parents were Catholic? Maybe I'm remembering our PMs wrong?

In any case, I don't think its wise to demonize Catholics because of the Inquisition, but their view of Salvation is extraordinarily different from even the most Arminian/Semi-Pelagianist Protestants' view of it.

You can't really be a "Half-Catholic" as Catholicism has dogmatic teachings and declares that those who disagree are heretics. Its not really possible to be half-Catholic.

No, you're not wrong. It's because the curriculum that teaches it is the only one that is available in my area.

True, I'm not a half Catholic. I'm a Methodist with Catholic leanings.

Ninja'd you by, um, half an hour there.

I've never been homeschooled. I've been at 2 private Christian schools. Also, NickyJ, Domination, and Celticempire, what's with the confederate flags?

This discussion has been interesting, but I can't help but feel it's been decidedly tilted towards talking about the christian-style homeschooling. Near as I can tell, Slobadog is the only homeschoolee who wasn't being taught from a religious-values angle.

I'm interested to hear from other people who have experience with homeschooling from a completely nonreligious angle.

Catholics don't accept purgatory.
I.... erm... Is that so? You might like to ask about that here.

CFC Presidential election in Forum Games. Long story...

They're basically scared off their pants that downtown will claim the CFC-US election this year so they're trying to (r)e-create the CSA.

No, that's not it at all.

It was late. I was tired. I was hurried. I talked to the wrong person didn't I?

Verarde :undecide:..........yes I was talking to Verarde!:)

Well I was homeschooled at the early and later periods of my basic education. The first time was for kindergarten. Afterwards I went to private school of christian bent (Somewhere near Atlanta, Georiga) for 1st and 2nd grades, then was homeschooled for half of 3rd grade, then went to a public school (In rural southern Pennsylvania) for the other half then spent the rest of elementary level in various public schools (In the suburbs of Atlanta) then was homeschooled (In suburban central Georgia but mostly rural central Pennsylvania.) for middle and high school.

Its late. I'll explain this school variation tomorrow.

My sister was also homeschooled at the same time. She didn't have any difficulties attending college. She attended Geneva college in western Pennsylvania. I can't say myself but I was extreamly ill for a long while and was unable to pursue college yet.

What? That is quite wrong.

Official Catholic doctrine rejects limbo as of 2007 and as such it is highly debated that purgatory does not exist. There is either Heaven or Hell and any true Catholic would know the changes in doctrine. Original scripture makes no mention of such a thing, and modern catholic scholars are all the time refining the faith.

IIRC Limbo is still theoretically possible but not considered dogma. That said, I'm not Catholic, so I'm going to have to alert our resident Catholic (Jehoshua) to this thread to get a final answer:)

Purgatory is considered a Catholic dogma. Limbo (According to our resident Catholics) never was.

I'm a resident ex-Catholic with more education on the doctrine than they. ;)
