(Ask about) California

Hmmm. I wonder if the youth lacrosse programs over there are very big yet.

I doubt it. Big youth sports are probably the typical ones: soccer, basketball, softball, baseball.

My college had a club team. I practiced w/ the team for a short while after being "wooed" by Robert Conrad's son, lol. I decided not to play when I realized I couldn't afford the gear.

Is the traffic really as bad as rumors say it is around the LA highways?

LA (outside of Orange County) is pretty much a nightmare. The SF Bay Area can also be pretty bad. The saving grace for the SF Bay Area is that it has a lot of good public transportation, unfortunately, LA does not.

But, from what I understand this is common for a lot or large, metro areas.

It sure is expensive as heck. I might not play this year because everyone else has already bought new $80 helmets, except for me.

When the hell are the people of Berkeley going to grow out of childhood? Nevermind, I already know the answer: never.

I watched Bowling for Columbine in Berkeley. During the whole movie, there were laughs and claps whenever a conservative looked especially stupid. When Charlton Heston said ethnicity might have something to do with gun crime in the US, there were loud audible gasps in the audience. Good GOD, grow up you bunch of sissies! I wanted to slap everyone who gasped in the audience. What a bunch of fools.

How would you say it compares to Oregon, if you have been there?

Is it true everybody drives like psychopaths?

Good lord, no way! I've never seen drivers in other states go so very far out of their way to be courteous to pedestrians. Many times, I would be walking to a curb, and a driver would wait for something like 5 seconds for me to reach the curb, then another 3 or 4 to allow me to cross the street, before continuing. Crazy!

Are there any good places to visit in Sacramento? I may visit relatives there sometime.

Sorry, never been in Oregon long enough, though we plan to make it to the big Shakespeare festival before we die.

Even if I had, CA is simply to diverse to compare.

A few questions:
*How long would you be here for?
*How long/far are you willing to travel?
*Give me some indications of what interests/disinterests you.
*What time of year are you visiting?

What are California's conceal-carry gun laws like, and do they honor Missouri conceal-carry permits?

Hey, I was just around Sacramento! I was in Elk Grove, then moved to Sutter Creek. I gotta admit, those foothills are a pretty cool place to live, but there are some crazy pot-farmer/meth addicts in the woods who will kill you for driving on the wrong road.

I loved the area, and I miss In-n-out dearly. I didnt care for the driving though, or the traffic. getting on the 99 in the morning is impossible.

Ahh, the Oregon Shakespeare festival is quite fun.

As is the rest of Ashland really.

I want you to concisively prove to me that California is more expensive to live in than Long Island. :p

Oh, and San Fransisco is awesome. Though I missed the humidity (of all things) when I went there.

- A week
- I live in Kansas
- I'm going with my family, so something that would be enlightening enough for adults, and entertaining enough for kids
- Probably summer, but we're still in the vague planning stage.

I love impressive natural features. I hope we get to visit the redwood forests while we're in California.

Is is as insanely expensive to live in California as I have heard? What is the rent for a one bedroom apartment in a decent neighborhood in the city in San Francisco or LA (Minneapolis/St Paul is about $600 a month)

My aunt said you have to be very watchful of rise and fall of real estate rates. Here in Kansas, there are small variations over time, but in California rates can go drastically up and down, and homeowners sometimes buy property only to sell it off a few months later when the rates become favorable.

Yeah, my mom lives in OC and you always know you've arrived to OC when you're on the 5 and all of a sudden you go from this mangled, insufficient, horrible highway to a nice 5 lane highway w/ carpool lanes. It the part of the drive where the stress instantly leaves me.

I didn't realize there was such a divide there, between LA/OC. Interesting. :)

Well, its not just the Dems. As you know, 3 of our last 4 governors have been Republicans. And, the State Assembly while typically Dem controlled is not overwhelmingly so. I think that a lot of CA Repubs know that, esp. on social issues you have to be at the least, in the middle of the road.

Oh, not so! I live near the Orange Crush (where the 22 and the 55, the 5 and the 57 meet) and we have had some major road construction done. It is much, much better!

We have a limit of 1% on property taxes, and supplementals that have to be voted upon. I pay about $1,000 per month in taxes. It really stinks!
