Well, since there hasnt been a thread on this yet, I thought I would make one. We generally do make threads about big movies coming out and this one could be huge.

Are you planning on seeing it? In regular or 3D?

Opinions on how the movie looks in the trailers?

As the thread progresses and people do see the movie I simply ask that any spoiler information be:
Spoiler :
spoilered as appropriate

Its been reported that its probably the most expensive movie ever made, clocking in at about 300 million dollars. Did they get their moneys worth?

We will absolutely see it, but I am not going to fight opening day crowds for it. Maybe go on Monday night. My family also wants to see it in 3D, but I have never really enjoyed 3D, and am not sure this new tech Cameron has come up with will improve the experience for me. If anyone has information on this I would appreciate it.

I didn't read your post just in case there were spoilers. I'm seeing it tomorrow night, in 3D.

I'll see it soon, in 3D of course.

And I think it's a great idea to get paying people back in the cinemas as opposed to at home downloading it.

Just means 3D copies are a few years away. ;)

I'll see it in 3D this weekend.

I'm actually going to see it. I'm worried that the story is going to be "Dances with Elves", but I thought I'd trust Cameron.

I'm not worried at all it's going to be 'Dances with Elves'. I'm sure it will be just that. And I don't care, I'm going to sit down, turn of the grey matter and enjoy the pretty pictures.

I doubt I'll go see it. The plot seems nothing special, it doesn't really grab me. I've seen Dances With Wolves, The Last Samurai, and whatever else it looks like.

The high-quality CGI doesn't make me wanna see it. After Transformers 2, it's gonna take more than pretty graphics to make me see a movie.

I planned to see it.

Then I learned they're only gonna show a dubbed version in 3D, which effectively canceled my plans. I am not willing to waste money for a film ruined by dubbing. There is a version in 2D with subtitles, but I don't know if it is worth seeing.

I will admit that I was hoping for more Aliens, than Dances with Wolves, but it is what it is.

@warpus have you been in a cave or what? Because of the technology involved, this movie is going to be very interesting, and the media buzz around it has been huge for several months now.

It could be just as Karalysia says about the last 40 mins. Movie is almost 3 hours long, so if the first two hours or so is slow, thats going to be hard to sit through no matter how exciting the end is.

First of all, I live in a castle.

Yes, I have heard all the media buzz, but media buzz rarely translates to "I should check this out cause it's going to be interesting and/or entertaining", so I largely ignore it.

Special effects do not equate to "interesting" to me. I'm talking more about an interesting story that's worth spending 2 hours of my time on.

If this movie is simply a showcase of new technology, and nothing more than that, I'll likely pass and check it out later on blue ray.

/whatever. But for me, watching such a movie on tv simply isnt comparable to seeing it on a big screen in a theater. Big movies need to be seen on the big screen to get the real feel of the movie. Home theaters, while nice, still dont really compare to that experience. They are getting better though, but some movies you just have to see on the big screen and imho this will be one of them.

Btw, if you ignore all the media about a movie, how do you find out of its interesting or not???

Yeah, that's why I saw the Dark Knight and Star Trek in the theatre - to get the full experience. But if I didn't think they would be good stories with interesting characters, I wouldn't have gone.

If it's a non-interesting movie with fancy special effects, I don't think it's worth seeing it on the big screen *shrug* Like, say, I didn't go see Transformers 2 in the theatre, but will probably check it out on my home system at some point.

I don't ignore all media, I just steer clear of the hype. If I listened to hype I'd be wearing crocs, riding segways, listening to linkin park & lady gaga, and going to go see movies just because they were expensive to make.

I think I'll go watch it in 3D simply for the visuals, although I heard the story is very generic/crappy.
