Bad news: Next patch on hold

Well, in my opinion Civ3 was pretty much bug free and PtW was pretty much bug free at the end.

Unfortunately C3C isn't.
I even now some PtW players that just don't want to buy C3C since it brokes barbarians, armies and FP.

Hmmm...

Maybe it's time to write a strategy article about Civ3 bugs: "Min/maxing benefits of Civ3 bugs"
You know all things about barbarian behavious, startegic use of submarines to trigger war, Funnel of Doom/Death, resource denial with armies, etc...
It could be an intersing article.

Especialy if new patches are not coming.

Since this is somewhat of a hot topic right now....

At least unitl Firaxis finsihes Priates and Civ3: Complete
Then maybe someone could work on Civ3 pacthes again.

What't the release date for these two games?

menyona (which is slang for later); I like the article idea. :D :coffee:

Gee this could develop into a snappy 'how to' manual for playing a buggy deeply modded game. Sub-titled; 'Vanilla bored? try this!'

What is truly amazing, is how great this game really is, to so prosper despite the wear and tear of new ideas, mods and game expansions. :hatsoff:

It is up to you, the fans, buyers and users, to decide which way the gaming industry will take.

I will come up with an example of bad reputation caused by NOT fixing a product because the successor game was already in developement:

Medieval: Total War
and its add-on Viking Invasion

Great games. But VI was flawed, had some new features, but terrible bugs, too.
Only after people at a huge fan site protested, wrote to EA "we will not buy Rome: Total War if this is not fixed!" they reacted reluctantly - mainly because of getting perhaps a NEGATIVE image, see what SirPleb said to this topic.

They made a patch that left still several issues open. The most game-breaking were fixed however.

Reminds me of a company that has of course better support, Firaxis, but now leaves probably Conquests with broken submarines, Armies... see above what bugs still exist.

If Firaxis does not fix those bugs, I consider them not gamebreaking, but MAJOR bugs (submarine), I will wait for Civ 4 - in the bargain-bin. By then they will have fixed Civ4 perhaps at least mediocre and it will not cost too much.

I am not keen on supporting the idea of leaving products unfinished business! Accepting this policy will lead to more bugs in the initial release and no reasonable fixing after release.

The gaming industry must get told that this is not acceptable - by not selling their products. People are also more likely to download games illegally that they do not consider to be of real quality. Sound support, a good final patch after some time, that is a perfect reason to buy a game. Position yourself by quality!

Finally, after so many years of Civ3, PtW, C3C, I think it is a humble request to ask for a good final patch... do not mess with your true supporters, Firaxis!

I applaud your appeal Longasc, truly... however this game remains great whereas Mediaval: Total War was not great, maybe only because they should have added/built in a great game editor before expanding, (not to late, though). Fixed maps do not seem to fare well or at least do not hit the higher peaks. It is a great historical feel, however the events do wear one out.

Conquests is forgiven, precisely because the game editor is supreme. Highly modable games is the future, simply because this alone insures legs.

Let us pray :worship: and pass the plate, collect our pledges and petition Firaxis to hire with even more or our money 'freelance under contract' to give us the patch we all sorely desire.

It might be economical right for Firaxis/Atari to spend their ressources for developing Civ 4 instead of patching Conquests, but I doubt we player will benefit from this strategy (if they do so).Civ4 will have bugs, too (there are few games with this complexity and no bugs) and why not concentrating then on Civ5 instead of fixing them?

But I still have the hope there will be a last patch which kills at least the major bugs...I think at least Firaxis is willing to fix them. They did it with Alpha Centauri, Allien Crossfire, Vanilla Civ, PTw and they will do it with Conquests.

Would a Civ3: Complete not demand a final patch to be really "complete" *cough*...

Surely someone here is halfway through a computer science degree and could spend their summer working for Firaxis on a minimum wage intern basis and get this fixed. Think of it, you'd get a summer's worth of experience in a real software company and you'd get to contribute to a game you love. Better than flipping burgers all summer?!

As far as I've seen, looking at the first post, resouces used for patch are spent for Pirates and Civ3:Complete, not Civ4.

Well, except for the fact that Soren is working (I assume nearly full time) on Civ4. SInce he pretty much wrote the AI system, I'd think he'd be the best to fix an AI related issues.

JonFitt, that is good in theory. If the intern were really good. If not, he/she could end up adding even more bugs.

FWIW, Firaxis does offer internships.

Sure Soren would be right guy to ask to make artillery bombardment algorithm, but since he didn't worked at C3C, I don't think he's the best person for fixing someone others bugs.

Not to worry folks. As soon as I win lotto, I'll hire a lawyer and find some way to MAKE them finish C3C.

I don't give a rats butt about Pirates or Civ4.
I *might* care about Complete if it leads to a finished product that i already paid for.

Soren did do quite a bit of the AI on C3C, IIRC.

As soon as you win the lottery all you'd have to do is give them enough money so that they wouldn't have this concept of resource conflicts.

That wouldn't work since thier paradigm would force them to allocate the new resource to the new projects. Legal action to force a paradigm shift and set a precedent is required.

watorrey takes a very interesting approach.

I would say, if they do not fix it in 3 days from now on, we should try out some old methods: crucification or trial by ordeal perhaps.

We should not threaten them with the worst (lawyers) first... lets start with toe screws... :)
